Spyderco Resilience

That, I believe, will be my last post.

I wasn't trying to get political, just wanted to discuss the issues behind the knives made in China. I feel like this Spyderco Resilence thread isn't the right place to discuss that, and I don't want to upset the mods.

Agree or disagree, I have stated my beliefs, and I thank God that I live in a country where I may do so freely, and have a choice in what I say, what I believe, what I buy, et cetera.

God bless you and God bless America.

KATN,

Wade

Thanks for your input, Scout30 - I found it informative and interesting.

There is a pic over in the Spyderco forum. The liners are QUITE substantial!

Yeah, I know. I think at the same thickness they would be plenty strong. I'm just curious. Anyway, I broke down and ordered one.

I'm not trying to run you off. And there's nothing wrong with discussing the issue. I do agree, however, that this isn't the correct place to do it.

I realize that.

I appreciate a respectful and intellectual discussion, I just didn't want to offend anyone in a thread that is supposed to be discussing knives and not politics. Which, by the way, I like the design of the subject of this thread, but it will never replace the Military. The Military is the end-all folder for me, in all its variations.

Thank you.

God bless.

I am not an economics student, but I was. I have a Bachelors degree in Economics from one of the largest Universities in the country. I also have an MBA with a specialization in finance (those and a $1.00 will get you a cup of coffee in this economy). There are too many variables to discuss on this thread. Scout30, that would be a nasty regression analysis :) In an oversimplified way I agree with both of you: to one degree or another you are both right. However, I think Sal was the most accurate :) In the end, I think it will be automation and not cheap overseas labor that will be the undoing of the American manufacturing laborer. Having said that, I do buy American when plausible. Now can we talk about knives - especially really big, well built, cheap ones ;)

As a proud European, buying a made in USA knife has no more attraction than buying one made elsewhere. The quality of the product is what interests me.
The Tenacious and Persistence are very nice for the money, and I think that the Resilience can well become the "Military for the rest of us". Now I have the Military, it's about perfect, so I won't be adding the Resilience. However I would be seriously considering it when looking for a big yet affordable folder.

And the second section of the quote is an excellent point.

Looks like a great deal on a big folder. It's now part of my next order.

My local knife store now has the Resilience in stock for $45.00 Canadian! I don't 'need' the knife [ of course, how many people actually need more than a handful of knives anyway] but it seems like a great deal ! I'll think I'll succumb sooner or later.

One more thought; someone on this post said that this trio of very affordable Spyderco knives almost makes him sad because they seem to be no worse than his expensive Spyderco's. I absolutely take his point, I spent about 200 clams for a Military a few years agos and I bet the Persistence, which is actually a quarter inch larger, will be just as good as far as I will ever be able to tell.

You mean the Resilience right? The Persistence is a toy in comparison to the two 4 inchers. :)

guys.. the "puke on it cause its made in china/everything made in china sucks/you're un-american if you buy from china etc" thing has been addressed already in this thread. How bout we keep our attention on the knife. Not the politics.

+1.....

I can't wait to get this blade!

For what its worth... I have a M.S. in Applied Economics and I thought that your arguement was well reasoned.

Well said Jake! There is a forum for politics where the Chinese/American issue can be discussed. Lets discuss the major issue here: KNIVES!

I only have the Persistence, but it has been a really good knife with a steel that has held up well. I was really amazed when I first handled the Persistence at the quality build and the nice, and thick, components it has.

I know some have complained about the heaviness of the Resilience, but I like a weighty knife and 5.6 ounces is certaintly not going to bother me. I like the fact that this is a big knife, and from what was said earlier in this post, with substantial liners to strengthen it.

I'll probably throw down the cash for this one.
