SPYDERCO SALT THREAD...fishing, ocean, stories, pics and all things "salt"

They are. That said, I would probably prefer the pe version for slicing food and fruit everyday. I think the Pacific Salt is definitely the most useful design in the Salt series so if I were you I'd probably get one of each. (Meaning a Pacific Salt in both se and pe)
Thanks for the advice. I'll be doing some fishing with the locals and prepping fish as well. What do you use the serrations for?

I was thinking of a serrated one as well. Are the serrations that useful?

I own a serrated Pacific, never used it because the idea of sharpening the serrations bug me.

I use my plain atlantic a lot, quite nice, but its truly a working knife, not for food prep or anything else different than cutting ropes and other stuff you do at sea.

Hey Timmy, the main reason I use serrated edge in H1 is it shows better edge retention than pe H1. It performs some tasks very well but I prefer plain edge for normal edc stuff (or food prep). That said, I could easily go for months using nothing but se if I had too. It's super easy to keep it razor sharp on the sharpmaker and I've done everything with it that ive done with a pe knife, even filleting fish.

With the millions of fish you've processed you could probably fillet one with a broken coffee cup. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I got myself two new Pacific salts. One serrated, one plane. I was also able to snag a few users from some members here. I'll be gifting these knives to some local fisherman. I'll be sure to get some pics up!

salty day today!

Just Surfingringo-ized my new salt. If you look close I didn't go all the way to the tip because I can always take that last bit off by hand if I need a needle point.

I'm getting a Pac Salt this week. Fighting the SE vs. PE battle. I see the pros/cons of both. This will be a fishing, kayaking, beach, sweaty FL work knife. I have no problem sharpening, so that's not an issue. I currently have an Endura Wave, Para 2, Native 5 SE, Manbug Superblue, Grasshopper, ARK, and a modded Tenacious in my Spydie Work Team.

So, PE or SE! Tell me your opinion!

(Yea, I should probably just get both a SE and PE. But money is tight and I only have enough to buy one new one. Would love to find them used.)

Would love to see a run of the Spyderhawk Salt.

Need to cut up some carpet.

It's a no brainer, SE all the way. Best steel for serrations is H1, you'll find it has more uses and applications that you think right now.

It's my main EDC, the Pacific Salt, and I'm yet to find something to cut that I wish I had a PE folder instead.

Just do it, won't regret it!

Just boought my first salt series (Pacific salt plain edge). Did i make a good choice? I plan on getting the Atlantic Salt Serrated, both models of the Pacific, both models of the Tasman, both models of the Caribbean, and the Fish Hunter

I find sharpening serrations to be a pain in the ass, so all my salts are plain edge except the enough salt on my sea kayaking pfd. Which is only there to save my life so it doesn't get dull.

In the past I opted for the Pacific Salt but it never resignated with me. The Salt 1 on the other hand is perfect.

Got this kitchen gadget recently, it's an electric egg oven. Being a fitness type, I eat a lot of hard boiled eggs and they're a bit of a pain to make, this does it automatically. That little hole in the top is the steam vent, I added vinegar to the water (to prevent greening) so that Pac Salt was exposed to hot vinegar steam for about 15 mins straight. I then let it air dry...no corrosion of any kind! Simply amazing stuff H-1 is.
