Spyderco ugly?

I like the way the AFCK was designed with the hole and no hump. I also like the way the Buck Mayo TNT was designed, though it's not exactly a circle for a hole. Those still have nice lines. I just looked up that Gayle Bradley again and I put my finger over the spyder hole and hump and the knife looks drastically different and much better. Same with the stretch. Then I take my finger off of the hump and man its back to being as ugly as it can be..... I guess just the humps really throw me off. I have had many and I like the jimping on the back of the hump, but I have found many other knives to be just as ergonomic and not look so ugly, lol... But other then that spydercos come with great heat treatment and they are consistently sharp. One other spyderco that I can think of off the top of my head that looks good and still has great looks that is designed around the hump is the centofante 3. I still may want to pick one up.

I think that it has to do with people being unable to change their mind.

This thread is nice. I could never figure out why anyone would like a Benchmade.

Actually, my first knife ever was a spyderco native... I had that thing for about 7 years and just lost it around christmas of last year. Only folder I ever needed. But... then I came to this forum to research my next knife and I caught the fever everyone else had and have tried out a ton of knives... the firt 2 dozen were only spydercos.. then I moved on to other terrotories and found that I liked the design and looks better... But everyone likes what ever floats there boat.. and most of the spyderco designs don't do anything for me, but that centofante 3 is looking real good... oh yea.. the only spyderco I have right now is a spyderco native :D. The only benchmades I have really liked so far are the ares and 710.... that's pretty much it for me. That new limited TSEK coming out looks insanely good though.

It all depends on your personal preference, when it comes down to it. I think my spyderco Stretch is my weirdest looking knife, but it makes an excellent EDC blade and I carry it often. I have benchmades that are absolutely beautiful, but they never get carried because I don't find them nearly as functional. And the quality of spyderco surprises me, a 55 dollar delica stands up nicely to my 160 dollar BM 940.

I think it really depends on the knife.

For example, I really like the Spyderco Urban:

It looks very comfortable, and I love how all the curves seem to connect when the knife is closed just as well as they do when it's open.

On the other hand I find the Spyderco Delica to be a pretty ugly knife:

I don't own either of these knives, so I can't comment on their functionality. I'm just making the point that all knife makers are hit and miss. I can't think of a single large scale knife maker that hasn't made an ugly knife.

i like spydercos a lot. they appeal to be because theyre different. they have a much different look than other knives. some may not like the hump, but its incredibly functional, i also love the opening hole, its probably my favorite opening system.

It took me a long time to get my first Spyderco. A local gun shop was going out of business and having a huge sale. I bought a box of knives that included two Spydercos (I actually bought the lot in spite of the Spydercos!). I used them and ended up liking them.

I still find most Spydercos hideous from an aesthetic point of view, but I can't argue with the quality, price and usefulness. I own around 40 and there are only a handful that I find attractive, like the Persian and Lum Chinese. But some that I find the ugliest are my favourite users (like the Delica 4, Yojimbo)!

I don't find them ugly at all. I have a Military and it's one of my all-time favorite knives, hands down. Between the Military and the Bencmhade 710, I don't know which I'd choose.

That being said, even though I don't find them ugly, the product line in general has a very strong family resemblance across all lines. No, the don't all look the same by any means, but in terms of divergence from their general asthetics, Kershaw and Benchmade have them beat there in my opinion.

Some prefer blondes, some redheads, some like chocolate, some like chocolate chip--spend your money how you will and enjoy your hobby in your own way.

Best,

Heekma

If beauty is a measure of health, and by that comparison a knife's beauty is a measure of quality design, then Spydercos are the most beautiful!

Bland and Ugly? Not in my book. It's also a plus that Spyderco's are consistently the best quality and functioning knives for the money that I've ever purchased.
