Spyderco Vallotton disapointment

So let me get this straight..... That Vallotton is a Spyderco sold by BladeHQ, but the custom work is done by a 3rd party?

"C" for counterfeit.....hahaha:o

Or "conversion" or "crap" or "come on really?" Take your pick. I'm sorry man. Id be losing it right now if I was In your shoes. You seem to take this kinda thing much better than I. Kudos for the positive attitude.

Yup, Spyderco made in Taichung (Taiwan) designed by Butch Vallotton ......as far as I understand it, a box of ? is shipped to Butch by ? and he converts them and sends them back out to ? to sell....

Ummm I'd contact BladeHQ..... immediately!
I'm pissed for you. That is absolutely horrible workmanship....
Opened or not! Someone needs to refund your money

Yea yikes, I havent always agreed with you either brand oak but damn that is just silly sloppy work on that knife. At the bare minimum I would let bladehq know about this thread, who knows maybe they'll make an exception.

.....Someone needs to refund your money........

That would be just dreamy, but its really not BladeHQ's fault, they sell all kinds of "stuff" I guess its up to the consumer to investigate and study before they hit the buy button.....
My example does differ quite a bit from all that I could gather over the internet....the tolerances were so loose it would fire if knocked on the table just right...maybe I should have contacted them who knows, but that hasnt worked out very well for me in the past either so I just kinda chalked it up as "mine now..oh well"...
I hope someone else with one could open theirs up and compare with mine....

That doesn't look like a very well thought out conversion. It's definitely not from design, considering the dremel wackiness there; it looks exactly like what it is. A hack job, mickey mouse style, hmm maybe I'll try and see if this could work/fit?

I'd seriously be surprised if that is the custom work of a renown knife maker, especially with a work in collaboration with and backed by a big knife company like Spyderco.

Check with Spyderco and if needed, the custom maker, to see of your knife conforms to spec, cause I'm not sure what that's designed to add/do. Confirm whether other customs are similar and quality there.

Figure out who is responsible for that fck up that no one with sensibility would pay good money for, unless or worked awesome of course, whatever that's supposed to do.

I've dealt with Blade HQ for a long time and have never had any issues that they didn't go overboard to resolve. I would call them immediately and talk to one of the leaders at their shop. Explain your frustration and disappointment, as well as the concern that this just doesn't look legit. Please let us know how it goes. I'm pretty confident they will take care of you, and probably do some investigative work on their end.

Someone eventually is going to open one up and see the ugly......I cant believe it hasn't happened before now..does anyone have a picture of the insides of another one?

I'd certainly contact Blade HQ and express your concerns. I'd also contact Butch Vallotton and verify the authenticity of the work. I was going to post a link to the contact section of his website but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do so. Just do a web search for "butch vallotton knives" and a link to his website should come right up.

Agree, but there's nothing inappropriate about getting your money back on this one. Clearly the website doesn't show the same product as what you were sent. That's grounds enough for a return since your decision to purchase was based on their representations. Their site doesn't show the notch being hacked out for the auto function. Additionally, the site describes the embellishment which yours didn't appear to have. Plus, you can make a positive difference by notifying BHQ so that others don't have the same problems down the road. The next guy could well be one of us on bladeforums.

That looks terrible. I'd be pissed too. However, I'd like to hear what Spyderco and BladeHQ have to say about the knife.

I have to tell you all that I was not looking for a refund or compensation here at all, but Blade HQ just contacted me about this thread and said "First things first: We'll take care of you- no worries on that end."
Im beside myself....and speechless!:thumbup: Ill keep you guys informed!

Nice.

That sounds like a "Good, Bad, Ugly" feedback thread to start. Good going Blade HQ! Let us know how it all works out.

I love my regular Vallotton folder, and had briefly considered a conversion. For now, I'm glad I did not go that route.

This is another one where I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer tells you that was their last one.

If so, it's probably another one that's been returned a few times that they are trying to finally get rid of. This is the first such complaint I've seen on one. Get your money back.
