Spyderco vs Benchmade

I know this probably isn’t the post for this, but i would like to put up some definitive knives that set the standard for both companies (on design alone, yes that does neglect a lot of variables)
Spyderco: Delica (Native), Endura, Manix, PM2/3
Benchmade: Grip/Mini (Freek/Mini), Barrage/Mini (Boost/Mini), 940
Edit: I thought the Volli was the Barrage

The axis lock is like speedsafe. It's popular. It also can break like the torsion bars on speed safe.

Have you personally, not on YouTube, not a friend of a friend, not in a review, but you personally seen a broken torsion bar?

I, personally have assisted openers dating back to apr 02.
Use them daily, and have yet to have one fail, ever

If you have had one fail personally, I would like to hear what model, how, and when.

Yes I have. Had one replaced twice and my buddy has one that broke too. I don't buy them anymore if I can help it. My blur hasn't broken yet and it has the right amount of tension to not suck bad like most others. My buddies cryo broke and my 0566.

It may not be common but it does happen.

The replacement bars are sometimes different.

Forget about the "buddy"
A direct experience was what I had hoped to get from you.
So 2 broken torsion bars on the same knife.
Unlucky
You were very light on the details, how did these failures occur?

Those omega springs break all the time on the internet.

Cvrobinson Cvrobinson I had a torsion bar break in my Kershaw Cryo II Tanto but beyond that failure I have other issues with Speedsafe/AO in general that make me not want them. I will say that related to the breaking of a torsion bar one of my gripes would be that once it breaks the manual action is garbage and the knives tend to lack good simple setup to convert over to manual.

Thank you, your answer was precisely what I had hoped for, a direct first hand experience.
All to often responses are formed here with "second hand knowledge".

Truth is I like both spyderco an benchmade, each for what they bring to the table.

But it's a SAK farmer that in my pocket mostly.

As to an AO's operation with broken or missing parts, I can't speak to that, I've yet to have one break.

If it helps I haven't had an omega spring break yet but so many folks on the forum here have. The speedsafe bar just snapped and that was that. The redesigned torsion bar resolved the issue and zt sent it to me under warranty.

The fact is it can happen. They are pop (popular) locks lol for most non knife folks. But even knife fans love axis locks.

I'm not a fan of either of these, not even compression locks. Just give me a frame lock or we'll built liner lock.

If you want to find out go take one, or all, of yours apart remove the torsion bar then re-assemble and see how it goes.

Why would anyone do that?
For what possible reason?
Re-assemble most anything with out some of the parts "and see how it goes"
I responded to this thread as a discussion of bench vs spyderco. I requested clarification of a post of "defective" springs and torsion bars.
I accepted your first hand experience of your kershaw
Your final post of sarcasm, not so much.
This is how a thread spirals

Lets not confuse the omega spring on Axis lovk with the torsion bar on assisted opening knives. They are two different things. Torsion bars get broken more easily and more frequently than the omega springs, at least that is what I experienced and read.

Fun of it to experience it first hand but mostly a tongue in cheek suggestion my friend. On the subject of BM & Spyderco in regards to our tangent I know that BM has AO knives do they use a torsion bar or what mechanism do they use and does Spyderco offer any AO I can't recall that they do.

I am not confusing any bits merely answering a question asked and as I say above AO isn't an out of place topic here as BM does offer AO knives.

I can't speak for spyderco but BM customer service has taken great care of myself and others I know. They've sent me free pocket clips no questions asked. When my father sent back his BM 580 that he has carried for 8 years for a sharpening, they basically rebuilt the knife with new blade and scales for nothing.

Heard good things about spyderco Customer service as well. Like others have said its a coke and pepsi comparison. Both are great
