Spyderco vs. Sebbie...value?

Own a Sage 2. Don't own a Leafstorm but own a somewhat similar Salsa Ti. Have spent a lot of time handling SmallSebs of various flavors. It's a close call, but I'd go with the two Spydercos. The Sage 2 is a very nice knife and an excellent value made from the same materials as the Seb.

If you have a chance, handle the Sebbie. It will put you off of lesser knives for quite awhile.

You may want to go to the Passaround forum and see if there is a PA going with a Sebenza and try and get in on it.

I have handled the Leafstorm and it just didn't feel as good as I thought it would. My favorite small Spyderco is the older Navigator and as someone else has mentioned the Salsa's have good ergo's but you may want a better steel.

If I had to choose re your original question I think I would get 2 Spydercos and then try and hande a Sebbie at a show or a PA to make sure that you truly love it.

Very tough question!

If you've never owned, or have a sebbie I think I would go with that. The best F& F in the buisness.

I'm not crazy about the tiny LS, but I do love the SageII. Its larger handle fits my hand better than the small sebbie. I now carry it more than my small sebbie.

Here's a pic of the sebbie and sageII if you need a size comparison.

In hand. Blurry, but you can tell size.

Id go with the seb, but thats because it is my favorite knife hands down. I think spyders are great too but I love my seb more:)

This would be a hard choice for me, but I think I would ultimately settle on the Sebenza.

IMO, one doesn't really appreciate what a sebenza offers until you've handled/used a lot of the other available production ti framelocks. If I didn't own all those bradley, BM, or spydie ti framelocks, I wouldn't know what was so special about the sebenzas.
As with any item, there needs to be a personal frame of reference for comparison.

One nice thing about the Sage 2 is that it is about as ambidextrous as framelocks get. (That may not matter to you.) To get the equivalent with the Sebs, you have to special order a dual-stud model, and even then IMO the locking leaf is harder for a leftie to disengage. You can get dedicated left-hand models, but that presents the same issue(s) from the opposite side. Again, I realize that may not matter to you.

Those two Spydercos would be a lot more fun than one Sebenza.
(and I'm not even a Spyderco fan)

i say get the seb, and if you dont think it's all that it's cracked up to be, sell it at get the 2 spydercos

+2 that desire for the Seb won't go away until you see for yourself

Crk's and many spydercos are overpriced. I would purchase 2 spyderco centofaunte III's and save the rest of my money.

I always find it funny when someone says "don't buy X knife buy 2 or 3 of knife Y.". Are you going to carry both? Or try to break one so you can use the other?

That is a difficult choice. I handled a Sage recently, and it is a worthy knife. The LS looks great in pictures, and I would like to have one, but have not seen it in person.

Of the three, I would without question get the most use out of the Sebenza.

The decision really depends on what you already have, and where you want to go with your collection. I would look at it more like you want to get all three, but need to establish sequential priorities. From that perspective, it might be best to start with the Spydies... although the Sebenza is the most desirable single knife of the three - by far.

No, and no. Why would anyone attempt to break their brand new folder?

I have gone through a similar senario twice now.

#1 Spyderco Para-Military and Bradley Alias 2 vs. Strider SNG = I puchased the SNG in May.
#2 Spyderco Para-Miliary and Bradley Alias 2 vs. Sebenza = I just order a Small Sebenza 21, yesterday.

A lot depends on how much you really want the Sebenza. For me, I really wanted the SNG and Sebenza, and knew that even though the Para-Military and Alias are great knives, I would not be happy unless a got what I really wanted.

Just get what you most desire and try not to be too logical in your decision. I would submit that most everyone, including myself, that spends $300 to $400 on a knife, let alone over $100 on a knife must be a bit coo-coo.
