Spyderco vs. Sebbie...value?

I've got no problem with the whole made in taiwan thing. At least I try not to. The quality is definitely top notch, I've had a few taiwan spydies.
But I have never liked seeing that name on there. I guess my mind has a little prejudice in there. Made in Taiwan just always meant junk when I was a kid, it was synonymous

I did buy a sage 1 sage 2 and a terzuola. :D

This is me also. I've actually had/have a couple of BokerPlus fixed blade knives that were made in China that have the fit& finish, and overall feel and look of a US product. The Valkyrie, and the Rampage. I also have the Spyderco Persistence which has proven to be a very good knife, and I mean VERY GOOD!:)

I'm not a Spyderco hater, just a Sebenza lover!!:D:D:D

By now you've heard every argument twice. You've heard Sal compliment the Seb. I'm sure you're coming to a decision (fun post by the way, anything Sebenza always gets the blood flowing). Take the following with a grain of salt:

I don't think I could be considered an afi. I own several knives over the 100$ mark, and even one or two over the 200$ mark. My "collection" is all users, not a queen among them. But I just can't grasp that fine line that Sal mentioned. Yeah, I know it's there, I know others see it, I just personally can't.

I've handled the Sebenza several times as I've been almost ready to pull the trigger on one. I've still yet to get one. I guess it's because I miss seeing the line, that line that determines if you're an afi. I can see the quality in a Spyderco and a Benchmade, and I feel the price is worth it. I can see it even more in knives like the OD-1.

Anyways, that's all personal. I'm just trying to say, it's got to be your choice, not that of those on the internet (even Sal himself!). Please, please handle the knife before you buy, it may make the difference either way you choose.

I have a little bit of bad news for you. If you don't think $50 is an outrageous amount of money for a mere knife, you most certainly are an afi. ;) Especially since you have more than one that expensive.

Personally, I see no appeal in the Leafstorm. I've held one and it did absolutely nothing for me. As someone who appreciates fine machinework, I'd consider a CRK - if he made something besides a framelock.

I bought a leafstorm to replace my Small CCG Sebenza. 2 weeks later, I went straight back to the Seb and haven't used the Leafstorm since. The Leafstorm now sits in my car as a backup knife.

I use to carry my Spyderco's all the time, and they are great knives! (Have about 10-15 of them) For the bang for the buck, you CAN'T beat a Spydie...

However, there is a reason why people compare their knives to a Seb. It is a benchmark that others try to reach. I now own 2 Sebenzas (Small CCG and a Small 21). Now, I am not saying that Spyderco lacks the quality that Sebenzas do, but just because something is made from the same materials (Ti, CPMS30V) does not make it the same product.

As others have mentioned, you will always ask yourself "I wonder how this compares to the Sebenza...." Do yourself a favor and just get one! ;)

the spydies, hell even one spydie. Once you get to the "upper echelon" of folding knives, it's probably similar to high end purses that women get, which my mindset does not agree with. Fit and finish? The spydies have impeccable F&F, will last you a lifetime, have tremendous steel and heat treat, will cut with the best of them, and take a beating. Does a sebenza do anything better? If so, only by the smallest of margins.

So if you want it as a fashion statement, or to take photos of and put online, or simply because you have some desire for a "better" knife which can't quantifiably do anything better, get the Sebenza.

If you're like me, and don't care about any of that, you'd get the Spyderco.

To each his own.
