Well generally a “lifetime” warranty is to the lifetime of the tool, not the purchaser. Once there is vertical play they would either have to replace the lockbar, the blade or both. To me it sounds like it’s worn out which would be the end of the lifetime of the tool.

If you want to get the opinion of Sal, post in the Spyderco sub forum as others have said.

^^beat me to it

I’m surprised they couldn’t fix it. How much time would it take to make a new lockbar and/or put a blade(one that would fit—assuming they asked first). On the other hand, would you really want them to issue you a credit for price paid 25 years ago?
They don’t specify what “lifetime” is so, if you live in one of the states that doesn’t restrict this term then you may have the right to insist they repair or replace.
If you want to keep the knife in service, there are people on this forum who can help. Or can at least direct you to someone who can. 25 years of daily use is good for a spydie, though.

A company's knife served you well without fail for 25 years, yet because the warranty that came with it doesn't quite match up to your expectations you'd forgo buying another knife from them? 25 years of reliable service is above and beyond what most expect out of any knife, if I had a knife that lasted that long without any issues I'd not only be pleasantly surprised but certainly willing to buy more of their knives to support such a quality company.

If they don’t have parts for a 25 year old knife, I wouldn’t call it “SAD!!!”. An overreaction on your part to say the least.

Did you ask them to replace it or give you a credit if they couldn’t fix it? Did you try posting in the Spyderco thread here or on their Forum?

Lifetime warranty is just that. I dont see why its crazy to expect spyderco to make it right.

I'd call and get the knife sent in again with them needing to either fix it or credit to another knife.

YO MAMA IS Right .

Expecting Spyderco to keep parts for a 25 year old knife is asking a lot.
25 years is a good run. IMHO

If its discontinued Kershaw will give you credit towards a new knife . I expect Spyderco to do the same .

If they didn’t even properly sharpen the knife the service person was probably having a bad day!

Spyderco is known to improve products over time, so the 25 year old Police might not be exactly like a new Police. Plus, the nature of the model (country of origin, pinned construction) doesn't allow simple parts replacement in the US.

Plus, as said, it's warranted against defects, not wear and tear from usage. Moving metal parts wear out. 25 years is a good run. In fact, it's damn impressive - both that it lasted that long and that you used the same knife for 25 years (good on ya!). Time for a new one.

Wouldn’t the OP be better served by an estimate of how much an independent shop would charge for the repairs his knife needs? I would be sad if my favorite knife couldn’t be fixed. Would this be way more expensive than replacing the knife? A new police4 with g-10 handles and k390 steel goes for about $190-5.
