I have always been a fan of spyderco just a little disappointed that they couldn't fix the problem, guess I was expecting to get the knife back tightened up,I have lived with the problem for many years just had someone say they will fix it for sure thought I would give it a try,its been a great knife served as a piece of mind over the years.
Thanks Dwight

Let me know if you prefer the stainless or frn handles and I can send you an plain edge endura4 which is lightly used but with solid lockup.
Sent you a message, thanks for the offer,I would be interested in buying your frn endura, Bladeforums is deffinetly a cut above the rest!!!!

Ok ... just when I think I've seen it all ... really? ... A knife performs for you for 25 years ... and it wears out and you are upset over it? ...

when did everyone get this feeling of entitlement? If I wear Sal I would post this story up in an ad for Spyderco as a testament to the quailty ... especially since you even stated some tougher to cut items that it worked well on by your own account.

"things that make you go hmmm"

I don't mind showing the add I sell sometimes on here
Dwight
If you sell knives on here, you must have more knives? The way you come across is like someone that only owned the Police and used it wore it out and now can't possibly afford another. I've used many different folders, some pretty hard and had them do the same as yours. Didn't expect the manufacturer to repair, or replace them though, as I had worn them out.

I'm sorry to hear about your old police. Like has been mentioned I'm sure someone around here could fix it, you just have to look around. I'm like you though I've been carrying an old Dlc coated police since 89 I believe, it still has some coating left on it. They are a good knife for sure. Yours looks better than mine though, I need to get a few pics of it for you all. This full spydie edge police has cut and sawed though stuff that it probably wasn't meant to be but has held up quite well. I wish I had another just like it but dlc coated models are really hard to locate and cost a lot more these days.
Well good luck with your police and getting it fixed.

Ya know, you can quite clearly see where that pivot pin is, either recessed or proud, which makes me wonder if the play is due to a bent pin- entirely possible with many years of hard push-cutting. I'd drive that little sucker out, check for wear in the lock recess and lockbar face, and fit a new pin.

My late dad and his brothers grew up on a farm and used up every pocketknife they had. My dad's old knives were mostly made by Camillus back in the day. The average lifespan of a pocketknife for them was anywhere from 2 to maybe 4 or 5 years at the most. After which the blades would be broken and/or sharpened down to nubs, would lose their 'walk and talk', rusted up and maybe even develop some play.

IIRC, the original Camillus had a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Not against normal wear, tear and abuse that hard-used pocketknives tend to receive. When the pocketknives became too jacked up to use, they'd just toss it into an old toolbox and buy another.

I suspect that OP's Spyderco Police was not defective in materials and workmanship originally, for it to have lasted that long.

I am still blown away that there are people who actually seem to think that a company is expected to replace an item that wears down from use for such an extended period of time. The OP's knife isn't damaged, it's used, a significant difference. Man, my tires on my car have a warranty, I have driven on them for 11,000 miles and the tread's getting low. That's clearly a manufacturer defect, I need to send them in for repair or replacement.

My first marriage lasted 25 years but ended up broken and I didn't want it fixed. I moved on and started anew. The OP should too. Some things, like certain marriages and knives, have a finite lifespan.;)

I wish you guys who are so generously offering this guy a free knife would give them instead to a member who couldn't afford one that nice. The OP has hundreds of posts in the exchange and can clearly afford a new knife.
Ummm...yeah, as in 1286 posts out of 1344 total in The Exchange. Whether new math or old math that's more than 95%.

Haha, damn my old 1992 Mustang was kind of worn out in some places, maybe I should have shipped it back to Ford for a full frame off resto.

Oh wait, that's not how it works? Darn!
