Spyderco Warranty Problems SAD!!!

I'm sorry if this is off topic but this thread has me feeling pretty good about my Swiss Army knife

I bought my swiss army knife when I was 10 years old to cut the straps off my paper route bundles (I'm now 38). Since then it's been opened 1000's of times and has cut all manner of things from radiator hoses to tent stakes. I keep it on my key chain to this very day and it still feels like it opens like new. I think I might end up owning this thing for the rest of my life. On the other hand I've owned brand name knives that have fallen apart in less then a month.

Hello to everyone my name is Marvin Dwight Moore I am not trying to get a free knife I just didn’t understand why a company like Spyderco couldn’t tighten up a knife everyone better understand that if you have a old school terozula that you bought new 15 years ago been a safe queen and you decide to use it bam lock fails Spyderco is not going to fix it it’s over a year old I appreciate all the folks trying to help me out, and yes I have other knives just tried to get a knife that was sold to me at blade show in Knoxville by Spyderco with lifetime warranty signs everywhere at the time I do believe that if a particular model of knife was sold to you with a lifetime warranty it should be for that model knife If new police models only carry a limited around 1 year warranty thats what you bought at that time and is stated as your warranty. Bottom line old new Spyderco no warranty!! Dwight

gun man, if you're willing to let me have a go at it, I could see about replacing that pivot pin, and tightening it up, no charge. If it's sitting on the mantle for sentimental reasons, I get it- I sometimes miss my EMT-days.

I've done quite a few refurbs on slipjoints, and have a small peen hammer, hand-press, pins, etc., on hand. LMK on my profile page & I'll send you my email.

Hello to everyone,
My name is Marvin Dwight Moore. I am not trying to get a free knife. I just didn’t understand why a company like Spyderco couldn’t tighten up a knife. Everyone better understand that if you have an old school Terozula that you bought new 15 years ago, that's been a safe queen, and you decide to use it and bam!, lock fails, Spyderco is not going to fix it. It’s over a year old. I appreciate all the folks trying to help me out, and yes, I have other knives. Just tried to get a knife fixed(?) that was sold to me at blade show in Knoxville by Spyderco with lifetime warranty. There were signs everywhere at the time. I do believe that if a particular model of knife was sold to you with a lifetime warranty, it should be for that model knife. If new police models only carry a limited around 1 year warranty that's what you bought at that time and is stated as your warranty. Bottom line, old, new, Spyderco no warranty!!
Dwight
I think this is what he meant.

You are going to have to post much more clearly if you expect folks to take you seriously.

I have to cut him some slack. Just because a knife is 25 years old, doesn't mean that it's had 25 years of use. I have knives that don't come out of the drawer all that often and then get used modestly for a day before returning to their resting place. Just sayin'.

My experience with Spyderco customer service has been less than satisfactory. I sent four knives in for what I considered defects in workmanship. A ball bearing lock and a liner lock that closed like slip joints, a compression lock that opened in my pocket twice and a clipitool with scissors that wouldn't cut a burr from my dog's fur. Each time the knives were less than a year old and I included a detailed written description of my concern. I received credit for the clipitool after they explained that the scissors were only intended to cut paper. The other knives were sharpened and returned without explanation. I don't buy Spyderco knives, anymore.

My intention isn't to bash Spyderco or insult those of you who like their products. I'm just telling my experience.

I have to cut him some slack. Just because a knife is 25 years old, doesn't mean that it's had 25 years of use...
That's not the point. Spyderco likely doesn't have parts that fit this knife anymore; the knife is pinned, so not readily, easily, or economically feasible to take it apart for repair; the warranty is for the expected life span of the knife, and 25 years is far beyond that; the OP did get quite a few years of use out of it by his own account -
...knife is in great shape for 25 years of service...
. This is not a failure on the part of Spyderco. They clearly explained the warranty in their letter back -
Now, due to what I believe to be unreasonable expectations, not only has the OP decided never to buy Spyderco again, he starts a thread here to bash the company.
You give us some vague descriptions of perceived problems -
I sent four knives in for what I considered defects in workmanship. A ball bearing lock and a liner lock that closed like slip joints...
, a case of apparently using a tool for other than it's intended purpose, but that Spyderco apparently remedied -
...clipitool with scissors that wouldn't cut a burr from my dog's fur. ... I received credit for the clipitool after they explained that the scissors were only intended to cut paper.
, and a compression lock that opened in your pocket twice, which doesn't sound like a defect to me, and now you won't buy Spyderco. Fine. Buy what you want, and don't buy what you don't want. But these are not failures of Spyderco's warranty policies. Just failures of perception.
