Spyderco's clips

I want to state that the rest of the Military, is indeed an example of perfection! Thanks again for taking care of this, Spyderco.

Hi Moniker,

Thanx for your kind comment. By way of explanation:

The entire "business chain" from; raw materials, invention, design, manufacturing, marketing, selling, distributing, shipping, warrantees, insurance, credit, etc. ALL EXISTS to service the ELU (End Line User). Remove the ELU from the equation and the entire business chain falls like a house of cards. We all work for you!

This is one of the reason I bought another Resilience, other than the knife itself demonstrates quality in design an execution, even though (economy series as it is) it's quite costly to purchase one in this 3rd world country.

Not many companies think this way nowadays. Most executives are busy with their so called 'bottom line', earnings, stock prices, that they forgot this simple basic truth.
I know. I work in one :p that's the opposite of Spyderco.

Another  to Mr. Glesser.

It's a clip... it's going to get used anyway, right?

No, I'm not using this knife. I bought it just to "have". Like I said if just owned knives to use, I'd have enough already. Just as you may think it's crazy to have 160 knives and use 10 of them, I'd think it crazy to own that many to use. For one thing the value of my collection would be way less if they were all used and what if I have to sell them some day? Not planning to, but who knows.

The knife was purchased as a new knife. Marks like that are typically found on used knives. If she wanted a user, she could have saved a lot of money by buying a used knife.

Come on Spyderco, do a bit better on the clips, I just bought a brand new Ti Military and while the rest of the knife is great the clip has dings, marks and the end looks "chewed up". I've seen this before with Spydercos I've bought new and when I'd call I'd be told I could purchase a new clip, but they would not send me another free, unless I purchased the knife directly from Spyderco. (I buy from dealers, that sell many Spydercos for Spyderco to imply the dealer did something to the knife is crazy, I'm sure the knife had never been out of the box) Anyway, this knife was over 200 dollars and I get perfect clips on knives costing way less. Spyderco should be able to deliver the same on these knives costing over 200. (the Golden models are always the ones that have the marked up clips, NIB)

Do the marks look like marks from pliers? I wonder if they're fine tuning the clip tension and getting the finish marred in the process?

I have always been impressed with Sal and his participation with his customers.

It was very nice to meet him at Blade.

I have been very lucky with my Spyderco purchases. I have given most of the knives I have purchased away as gifts, but I still have a really nice military and some of the small slipits.

Glad you are getting your clip taken care of, Jill.

best

ive had to order clips from spyderco plenty times a few times they just sent them to me for free. and it was my fault they broke!

but i did order a sprint run paramilitary 2 brand new from knifeworks and the clip was all dinged up and spyderco made me pay for a new one. i guess it just depends on who u get on the phone. but there customer service is great, thats why i wast to upset that i had to pay for the clip.

Glad they took care of your clip, I hope they will send me a free screw because I just got a brand new PM2 and it was missing one :(

Good for you for standing your ground. These comments like "it's going to get used" drive me insane.

Even if you are using it, shouldn't you have the right to be the one that puts the scratches on it? After all you don't buy a new car and say, oh well the doors have dings in them already. It'll happen anyway.

Totally agree. But these points have been made clear and most importantly, it's addressed.

I have a suggestion to Spyderco. To prevent abuse and yet still providing customer satisfaction, instead of outright rejection (buy new clip), get the customer send in the picture and proof of purchase. This way, it will reduce people taking advantage of the 'free clip' policy.

There would be some that still can abuse it, but I think the number will be insignificant compared to genuine complaint. Some might refuse to provide the evidence (no camera, and other excuses etc.). These cases can be taken as exception and judgement call is to be made by Spyderco.

Not to tell Spyderco how to run their business, but my work involves dispute resolution so that's what usually be done to balance service vs abuse.

I think Spyderco's policy on not sending out new clips just because people say they aren't right out of the box isn't out of line. It's a commonly damaged part when a knife is pocket carried and I can see how some would, stick the new knife in their pocket mark it up and think OMG, my brand new knife! Then call to gain another.

But, when it's someone like me that has dozens of brand new Spydercos they certainly could see I'd not do that and had no problem believing me and sending me a new one, free of charge. They probably do get a lot of requests over the phone and have to try to thin out the ones that are trying to take advantage. That's why I've always went ahead and paid the small fee, for a new one before. (it hasn't happened over a couple of times before) When I'd just call about it. This time I thought I'd bring it up here and see how it was dealt with and not to my surprise, Sal believed me without question and the new clip is on the way.

Hi Jill,

thanx much for the head's up. Shouldn't happen.

I'll forward to Charlynn. She can send you a clip.

sal

That is very cool Sal. A clip is probably not a big deal monetarily, but the fact you took the time to help Jill, and respond here, says volumes

Only clip problem I've had was that the clip on my PPT was very soft- emailed Spyderco, got nothing, lost the knife when it bent again, and got a "we'll pass that along" when I contacted them again. I've had five or six frn handled spydies, most of which I deployed with, and no problems.

Edit: My original post was referring to the dull finish and nicks on the blade whereas the original poster was referring to the end of the clip with a ragged edge. That is not normal.

i dont think the shine or the micro scratches was the main concern, it was the chewed up looking end

As long as everyone who votes for him gets a free Southard flipper:D

I would vote for anybody if they gave me a free Southard flipper (a testament to the knife)

I would vote for Sal (free knife or not) if he ran because he is one the kindest, most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!

....On second thought Sal....

You are way too nice and honest of a person to be successful at being a politician!
