Spyderco's clips

Thanks, to Sal for getting two nice new clips to me and the screws, 6 total one set pre-locktited. I just got them today and installed one of them, now my knife truly looks "mint"!

I didn't read all four pages, just the first and last. Where did you buy the knife? I am really weary about buying knives off of ebay now even though they're listed as "NEW", because sometimes the seller carries/use them and then sell them as "NEW".

I knew a guy who was a "dealer" that sold knives on ebay as a side thing. He really liked knives but couldn't afford to buy a bunch of them so he figured if he sold them he could get a batch and play with it/carry it for a while and then sell them.

I've even bought some knives on here that are described as NIB that had some little imperfections from obviously being carried. I am not too picky so unless it was something big I let it slide. All the spydercos that I have bought brand new, from a well known online dealer has been in perfect condition. I know there's such a thing as the occasional slip in QC, but when a knife is missing a screw or the clip is all dinged/scratched up I would first suspect the "dealer".

The knife was bought from a place that stocks and sells Spyderco in number. They had 12 of these Ti Militarys available, so I don't believe what you're saying applied to my knife. Plus if someone had carried it, they sure didn't scuff the Ti up at all and that gets marked up as easy as the clip, will.

I've bought and sold Knives for years and I do know when a knife is new and when it's been carried, I also know when there's a cosmetic flaw, that was let slide from the factory. It happens and I've seen it on all brands. I wouldn't have said anything here if I didn't believe 100% that this was the case this time. It was taken care of by Spyderco, because Sal believed me and I've dealt personally with him in the past. He's always helped me, even on new old stock knives that weren't exactly right.

Like I stated before, I'm sure Spyderco gets a lot of calls and emails, from people trying to gain a new clip, when they did indeed damage it themselves. Sal, knows me and knows I do collect a lot of his brand NIB, so he helped me out.

I also must add, Spyderco sure did an excellent job on the lock on this. It's very tight and precise. When I open it it just snicks right into place, it's not at all hard to unlock, either. Other manufacturers should do as good of a job on their similarly priced Ti frame-locks, because this is up there with the best.

You are most welcome Jill. Sorry for the hassle.

Also thanx much for all of the kind words. We have very good crew that are like minded.

Sal. I'm curious. Why is spyderco's policy not to provide replacement clips. Its been brought up that some of your competitors do... I personally have received complimentary clips from benchmade and ZT no questions asked.

While there is the risk of abuse, these companies are able to absorb these cost somehow, presumably by budgeting this CS costs into their overall P&L's.

I'm a biz school Prof. So just curious.

Hi Taibo,

If the clip was torn off, they usually send it in for a replacement. That way we can make sure it is installed, glued, etc. properly.

There are aso many clips and they are not interchangable. Screws are also different for different models. We send a clip, it's the wrong clip, they send it back, we send another clip, it's still the wrong.....I think you can see the problem.

Hard to tell if someone actually needs a "replacement" clip or just a free clip to put on another knife? Once the word is out that a company is giving away free clips for the asking, inundation follows.

i own a ti millie and i think the clip is the most over-engineered part. i couldn't believe how thick the steel was and the triangular screw orientation (around the pivot) looks industrial (or military) strength. and to think all it's supposed to do is clip onto the top of one's pocket, or waistband, or belt.
