Spyderhole - less efficient way to open a knife?

I went looking for one locally a few days ago but didn't find any. I also couldn't find anything but the digital camo in stock online, so I placed a pre-order on a blue g-10, s110v just now, along with a Manix 2 in the same config. I'll check em out and see if they change my mind.
You chose a couple of great ones Corey!!!
I just got the blurple Manix and have had the PM2 for a couple months........both are literally amazing bro! They will need a little break in or lube, but both of mine are stupid smooth and both came incredibly sharp!!
Good luck and let us know what you think!!
Joe

The Spyderhole is the most reliable way to open a knife. It keeps your thumb in place with constant tactile response from the blade.

How does a stud not do the same? They are both round things where you trace their edges as the blade rotates.

Your thumb goes in the hole, there is something holding it in place on all sides as long as you apply pressure. Your thumb pushes against the stud, there is nothing keeping it in place.

I find the hole very reliable to open consistently. And unlike discs or studs, they don't interfere with sharpening as much.

Exactly!

Any thumb stud? I really don't care about people's preferences, but I'm a little surprised that you found a light opening thumbstud liner lock more difficult to open than a lockback hole opener.

The best thumb stud knife I've carried was the Kershaw Blur, those wicked nice angled studs were fantastic for studs.

I currently carry a Spyderco Native, a backlock with a hole. It might not open up as fast, but the smoothness and ease of opening far outweighs the thumb studs from the Blur.

I'm going to simultaneously revolutionize folding knife blade deployment and bring peace to General Knife Discussion. Ladies and gentlemen, may I propose to you all: the large-diameter thumb stud with a hole in it. The Mecha exclusive "Large-Bore Thumb Stud" system, or L.B.T.S., is the perfect design for both thumb-hole people and thumb stud people. L.B.T.S. - the perfect opening protuberance! ™ ®

I don t flick my knives open when I use them, although I do it once in a while just to see how easy it is on a particular model. I don t think I need the speed or drama of a flicked open knife when using it in public. The Spyder hole is the best opening mechanism for a folder imo. I also prefer the blade holes in other brands of folder.

the large hole is cumbersome and unattractive
I can understand feeling the hole is unattractive (though I disagree), but how is it cumbersome? It's not like it sticks out from the blade or makes them unwieldy. The blades may end up wider than some other brands, but I've seen plenty of competitors' knives which feature oversized blades.

LOL thanks for the definition. I do feel the hole is an excellent marketing tool and in the end maybe a little more cost-efficient to manufacture than those with a thumb stud it is just not for me I could see though how many people do like it excuse the grammatical errors I'm doing speech to text

I love the hole for opening. In fact, it's definitely my favorite opening method for a lot of the reasons already posted.

What I don't like is the large hump that a lot of Spydies have in order to accommodate the hole. I've actually made a point of centering my collection around Spydies that avoid this design choice.

I think you just won this thread.

Oh man I remember the first time I held a Manix2... It all just made sense. Its a wide blade, but warranted IMO. The S110v Lightweight version with the pocket clip from my Chaparral is one of my favorite knives. FYI the ball bearing lock is much different than the Axis.

If you like the 555 you should check out the Chaparral.
