Fes, that stag is some knobbly gear alright! Looks a treat. Do you have to 'cure' it before use?

Thanks, Will

Cure it?...No....this antler has been drying for approx 10 years,so its as stable as its ever going to be..They lose their colour with age....i soak them in TEA for 24hours then leave to dry for cupla months...im glad you like it...Sika are first cousins to ELK....You only get the (popcorn) effect on very mature stags, generally those that are so old and have lost their teeth..They lose (volume ie,# of antlers but grow dense, solid knobby stuff)...............................FES

This is the stag (sorry for poor pic)...Thay are traditionally 8 pointers..This old fella had reverted to 4....the white dot in forehead is where bullet hit it...i shot it at 4 yards....FES

I posted this one in another forum, but the stag scales merit posting here. This is an old and well used whittler with all blades marked, but hard to read. Best mark is the master and it is BENETFINK / CHEAPSIDE with reverse marked Made In / Sheffield. My resources The London Knife Book indicate this was a retailer from around 1850 to 1920. The stag is what got my attention. All blades have good strong snap and are tight. Charles

Maybe you´re shameless, but that stag is nice ;) :)

I´m really enjoying surfing through this thread... Thank you guys for posting your beauties!

Kind regards

I posted this one in another thread, but I think the stag scales merit a place in this thread. UNION (in a map) Orlean, N.Y. Secondaries marked U.C.CO / ORLEAN / N.Y. (1911-1951). This serpentine lobster is a little rough with no snap on the master blade and the tip broken, but a rare stamp with great stag scales. Nickel silver liners and oval shield with UNION.
