Stealth Run #012 - 117 Mini Stealth (102 handle), MagnaCut, Black Phenolic

I received mine yesterday. I have to admit that I like the handle more than I thought I would. I like my 102, but the handle has always felt tight to me. The 117 Brahama Woodsman handle gives just enough more room to feel better. It's still snug, but good.

I also think it's crying for a slim pouch-type sheath given the compact guard, but that's probably another discussion.

So is the 102 handle a little longer on the 117 the it is on the original 102? Or is it an optical illusion in the picture? Because the L.L. Bean 102 handle looks a little fatter too with the stacked leather

Yes, the 117 BW handle is a bit longer. The pommel angle is a bit more open, too. I don't know if it's width is typical for a 102, but it's definitely skinnier than the LLBean 102.

One other thing about the sheath, once that snap comes undone, the blade section best be pointed to the ground or it will definitely fall out. I would second the recommendation of a pouch sheath for this particular knife.
In this one, I glued in place two layers of leather about an inch long to provide some compression so when the blade is in the sheath, it's sandwiched by the leather and doesn't allow the knife to be loose or fall out.

Making it secure for those times the snap might come undone.

If my suspicions are correct, and my family ordered me one of these for Christmas, I will definitely keep this in mind. Good job!

Fingers crossed that you will get one.

The black threads were raised up on the sheath so I carefully removed them and replaced it with the red thread tightly sewn on. Also the edges of the sheath were crisp and sharp so I sanded down to soften them and burnished them smooth making it overall smoother and a little bit nicer.
Then I applied some leather protection to the leather.

All is good! The 117BW and the October BOM 101 arrived! Took my granddaughter a bit to figure out how to open the box. She's got the idea now.
The 101 is on my belt and the 117BW will go for Black Friday.
Both knives are extremely Sharp! Fit and Finish perfect. The sheath for the 117BW did not account for the thicker guard. A few minutes with an Exacto and a black paint stick and I'm good to go.
As expected , the 102 handle fits great and I'm going to really enjoy using the wider blade.IMG_3803.jpeg
The 102 is the cocobolo version from 2015
