Steve Corkum ---> No contact & no knives

Talked to Steve yesterday. He said his wife had my knives and that she was shipping them expedited so they will arrive before Christmas. We'll see...

Got my first shipment no problem on Friday, and Steve said he's shipping the rest at the end of the week.

Personally - I've had two Crookum blades - both through dealers. One was quite dull upon arrival. Ther other a bit better. Sold both. One I sold to a good friend who sent the knife back to Crookum for very minor work. It took him the better part of a year and scores of phone calls / emails to get the knife returned.

I've heard WAY too much negative info on this guy to ever consider buying another of his knives through him or anyone. A good friend, who shall remain unnamed has over 6 grand owed to him by this self-proclaimed Mastersmith. And it's a crock of sh*t in that this sort of businessman almost invariably resort to "poor me" excuses.

This guy needs a kick in the pants that will put a major dent in his wallet, and I feel he's about to get that.

And Spark, why is it that you're only one hearing the voices?

Got me. He's calling me pretty regularly and keeping me informed on progress, but I'm a pretty easy going guy when it comes to business. As long as I get the knives I ordered in a timely fashion, it's good enough for me. If shipments start going missing, that will be another matter.

I've also told him to contact 888knivesrus and from what I've been told by both Steve C. and Doug @ 888 that they've talked things out.

If someone is owed money or knives, I'd heartily suggest they let it be known. That's what this forum is for.

WOW,thats just ashame.I can't say anything for his business practices, but I had one of his knives a couple years ago and was very impressed for the money.A solid knife to say the least, though it coulda been a little sharper, but that is easily remedied.I really hate to see knife makers that have talent conduct themselves in this manner.I wish I had the talent some of these guys had, that are basically letting their businesses go down the tubes for exactly this type of behavior.Oh well, good luck to everyone and Merry Christmas!

Knives arrived yesterday!

Well they finally showed up. Steve had told me he was going to throw an extra neck knife in the shipment a few talks and promises ago but I guess that was in the shipment he reported as lost. I got what I ordered in any case.

The knives appear to be well made and solid. The heat treat lines are a bit curious on the first strike. Sharp is definitely a term that can not be applied to these but as we have a belt grinder that is quickly fixed and a small detail.

So all in all I'm satisfied and all was delivered as commissioned. I'll post pics and reviews after the holidays.

We don't know what we are going to do with the knives yet. I ordered the knives on October 9th and they were delivered December 24th which is not too bad for a custom knife maker. All the missed delivery dates are what kind of soured me on Steve but he did in the end complete the transaction.

It seems like Steve needs to clean up his act a bit, but it is good that you got the stuff you ordered. Hopefully this will be the case for all the people putting in the smaller orders as well.

DC,
Glad to see you got your shipment. He still needs to make it right with the mutual friend that is owed $6K worth of product or it's still a moot point.I know the gentleman who has been more than patient as this has dragged on for a time with no delivery,no returned calls,or e-mail.I wouldn't be so nice but that is my demeanor as a cop.My bad but if I pay indidvidual 'X' for knife 'Z' he better deliver or I will file with the U.S.Attorney General's Office for fraud.Plain and simple.Give me what I pay for or go to jail!!!

I'm glad you got your knives in! You are one of the lucky ones. Now if he would only make good on the blades he's owed the dozen or so other folks for years now...

Like I said, if someone is owed money or knives, they need to step up to the plate and let it be known. This "I heard it from a friend of a friend who knew their sister's cousin's boyfriend" isn't going to cut it. They need to provide details, times & such, or else you can have 3 people making enough of a noise to make it seem like there are hundreds who have been screwed.

Missed delivery dates & missing product are bad, no doubt about it. Here's the opportunity to fix the problems.

To those who have rcv'd their knives, that's good to hear, but there is still quite a ways to go before all is rectified.

When I first heard of Steve, and started seeing his knives on Magazine covers, I was way stoked stoked with his work. It's a shame that he - for whatever reasons - allowed his reputation degrade to this.

Happy Holidays to all...

So Kwaiken, you haven't ordered anything from him personally, and have a "friend" who is missing something still. Seems you mnaged not to read Kevin's last post at all here. Might try doing that before you keep posting ont his thread.

First of all pal, I did read Sparks last post, and understood it fully.

I wanted to state that for the most part, I was glad that those who had ordered knives, had rcv'd them.

I joined this forum over 2 years prior to your join date, so don't EVEN try to suggest to me how to conduct myself regarding my posts.

I suppose that now you're going to tell me that this is your third username, and that you have 6000 credible posts to your credit, correct? Save your energy. Guys who shoot their pieholes off in a manner such as you remind me why I don't bother to frequent this forum much at all anymore.

And learn to spell.

Yes, there are much better forums out there for "Guys who shoot their pieholes off" Let's not turn this into an us-versus-them thing.

Anyhow, instead of comments from the peanut gallery, how about those who have personal experience actually come forward?

Only username I have, doesn't make your comments productive. I fully support htose who have problems voicing them here, as I"ve seen TGBU doa great job of getting these things fixed. Justthat comments like yorus don't help anything

still doesn't change the fact this friend is owed $6K worth the knives. And that he won't return calls or emails to him either.

It's a feedback forum , your mispelled posts add nothing .

I sure hate to see any maker get slammed on the forums as it can haunt them for along time , however in this case the slam is justified.

the mispellings are called typos. You try dealing with arthritis in your hands in a cold apartment and see how you do.

Yep, his friend is surely owed knives. WHIch is why I'd rather see him here posting what the problem is, and get it fixed. GBU fixes problems, and is used by some of us to identify those who aren't good to deal with. I always give BFC members the benefit of the doubt, same as I do on gun boards, but find it more justified here, as I tend to have more pleasant dealings with knife people in general.

That being said, and even with the fact that I use this to find the bad people, repeating himself doesn't get his friend his knives back, and doesn't teach anyone else anything helpful towards dealing with Steve.

Actually, said friend is a VERY WELL known dealer and sent mr butthead a LOT of $1000s of dollars a number of years ago and hasnt gotten squat and is very very disappointed and hes my friend too and frankly..............I gotta agree with those guys.....

NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH A CROOK!!!!! :( :( :(

Take a look at all the BS and lies that came before this one delivery and you see what kind of person he is! :(
