Still no knife from Dale Chudzinski

The next step for dale is a name change; he will now only answer by the name Oscar Blade!!!

Alan's little brother.................................................

*Bump*
Any news from anyone?
I`ve tried sending Dale a couple of emails lately, but with no answer.
Last word i got from him was around the first of September, where he said that he was back in the saddle, and promised to get my knife out.
I also had asked about photos of my knife, which he also promised to send me.
No pictures so far.
Either, he should call James Randi, and put a claim to the 1 million dollars, cause of his extremely incredulous bad luck, or he`s just a crook.
Looking to his past track-record, i have difficulty believing he`s a crook, although my common sense tells me otherwise.
Maybe i just want to believe the best about people, or maybe i`m just really slow when it comes to seeing my 180$ as lost in the wind.
I wish i lived in the US, as it`d be easier to threaten with a lawsuit from there, than from Norway.

I'mm guessing I've been taken as well. I can't even get an email back. Having recently taken a $1800.00 dollar a month cut in pay I can ill afford to get ripped off. I knew better.

Shouldn't the title/name of Oscar Blade go to Polmilion or whatever his name is?

Dale should be known as "My other brother Dale Blade" ;)

It is unfortunate that we can't form a Posse and go have a three suspect blanket party. I have got to believe that guys like this who breach the bonds of trust they have built on an Internet forum know exactly what to do and when to initiate their scam.

The proverbial road trip; It would be so satisfying for the victims of these svhmucks to really, REALLY take their pound of flesh.

We all carry knives sharp enough to do it......................................But:(

I feel for you guys. When I finally got my knife from Dale I was pretty unhappy overall with the way I had to chase it down and I ended up selling the knife almost immediately.

I realize that I'm one of the exceptions in the knife making and knife repairing world because I do get paid up front for my clips, my knife upgrades, and sometimes for my hand made folders also but most guys have no problem doing that with me because the longest anyone has ever had to wait for a knife from me is two weeks. If I suspected for one minute that it would be longer I'd not take their money until it was done and for my handmades that is normally how I do it but some have paid me up front anyway.

One of the rules of the knifemakers Guild to be a member is to agree to never take the money up front for any knife that is ordered. (no I'm not a member) Looking at that rule on the surface it sounds strange to a lot of folks, especially those with a marketing and sales background like myself, in fact it comes across as totally foreign in cocept to not at least get half down up front, especially when there is potential to put a lot of work into something custom made that is then backed out on, but in the knife making trade it is generally considered a negative by many to request money up front for a custom knife. It seems from watching this thread and others like it that the Guild had some advance insight into this and that the wisdom there is hard to argue with.

For smaller jobs like my clips and minor sales I can understand getting paid up front if it only takes days to get the knife. But personally I think it can be said that if it is going to take longer than a couple weeks to get the product you should not be expected to pay a dime up front until the product is done and ready to ship and you've seen pictures of it or some other progress pictures proving it was done the way it was ordered.

If a maker asks me for a reasonable deposit, I have no problem with that. If they demand full payment in advance, they are not going to get my business. There are just to many stories like this one about Dale Chudzinski, or Allen Blade, Steve Corkum, Jack Crain, Peter Jensen, etc.

Thanks for weighing in here STR, long time no see. There are many people (yourself included) who I know and respect enough that I'd rather take care of the payment right away. It's just easier for me. It can wind up being a hassle for me when I'm away from home, especially if I'm traveling overseas for work. This problem I'm having has not soured me on that, it's just soured me, as well as numerous others, on Dale Chudzinski.

Those of you thinking about a road trip to take care of things in person, can forget about that idea. Long gone are the days of settling up like men. In this day and age, these scumbags would sue you, and win. Hell, Dale already sees himself as the victim because of the posts about him on this forum. He accused me of slander, which is quite funny, considering the amount of people here with the same story about him.

On August 25th he sent me an email claiming that the knives were done and that he would get them in the mail soon. That has not happened.

Still no knife, no reply to emails. I don't know if he's ill, or nuts, or somehting else, but he damn better have some other way to earn a living, because nobody is going to buy knives from him!

I hate seeing these threads. I'm sorry to hear about all of you being ripped off.

When things like this happen, they aren't just hurting their reputation, in a small way they are hurting the reputation of all custom knifemakers.

I guess you are correct, and I find that to be a real shame. I will personally never judge a group based on the actions of a few of its members.

Nor will I. Over forty years, I have dealt with knifemakers, fly rod makers, book makers; you name it, all kinds of craft people, and have never, until now, been ripped off. Sure, things are delayed, or otherwise re-negotiated between the time the client orders something and the craftsman delivers. Nobody likes this, but we who consume these things can understand. Those are the realities of life today, and reflect the fact that all of us, craft people or not, sometimes proimise more than we can deliver. I am still willing to cut poor Dale some slack because I understand the difficulties of being a small buisnessman and devoting a large part of your energy to what is truly a labor of love. The fact that he, or no friend, will come to his defense makes me think he is just a jerk.

No knife here, nor any replies on my emails. *sigh*

Edit: And about judging a group, based on the action of a few of its members, in this case, Dale.
I would never do that. I wouldn`t even mind having to wait up to a year for my knife, if only Dale had told me that it took a year, instead of every few weeks he said that it was finished.
I mean, if the knife really is finished, how long would it take to wrap it up, stuff it in a cardboard-box, then get it to the post office? Surely not the year++ that bobert has waited.
