Stockman roundup.. Lets see 'em...

Here are a couple of old stockmans to add to the fray.

The 3 5/8" CASE XX Redbone Stockman is a bit different than your basic stockman. Being a 6332 pattern makes me think this knife is "evolved" from a reverse gunstock jack as this knife has half stops...unusual for a typical stockman. This knife works great and is in very good shape. Google "reverse gunstock stockman" and you will find new ones made by several companies today.

The big 4 1/4" CASS XX Stag Stockman is a 5375 pattern. It's rare to find a Case stockman of this age with stag and full blades. This knife was well cared for and works great.

Thanks for the comment willgoy. Glad you like the knife. Great knives Kerry. I espeially like the old Case redbone scales.

This Boker is from the 1970s. It has the Boker Solingen and J Wiss shields, the latter for the New Jersey based owner of Boker USA at the time.

That big Case XX is something else:thumbup:

X2 on that JS Holler knife S-K. the scales are great.

Here is mine. A Case XX 6332 that could be Kerry's knife's brother. Similar color fade on the bone, half stops, and pen blade. When I picked it up, it was sold as a "reverse gunstock" stockman as Kerry mentioned.

I wanna play! Here's my Case 63032 amber bone CV. I absolutely love this little knife. I also have a Rough Rider sow belly with orange bone. Not really diggin' the RR. It's ok but probably gonna be last one. I remeber being a kid and going to Carolina to visit my cousins. My uncle would always give me a knife when I came, usualy a Case or an Old Timer. Man I wish I knew then what I do now.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics:o

One thing I really like about the GEC cuban stockman is that with the muskrat clip main, you can still have the sheepfoot nick on the mark side.

Plus, I just like a slender clip anyway. The spey nick is on the pile side which is fine, because you turn the knife around anyway to use it.

I also think the spey blade on these is a little more useful shape than some. It's a little more "penlike", especially with that drawn swedge (thanks Kerry!).

I've been considering a stockman for some time now. This morning my decision was made for me.
I went for a walk while talking on my cell phone. I stopped to listen carefully to the person I was speaking with. When I stopped and looked down, I saw in the grass one of the rare Old Timer Stockmen with the 1/2 razor blade.;)

Just a few minutes with 0000 steel wool and mineral oil and it is free of surface rust. It will be a fantastic user. I even think the broken blade will be handy for certain tasks.
I feel like a little kid at Christmas.

Bit sharping the broken blade with whetstone to miniature sheepshoof, that will become very nice user.

Here are my stockman knives:
Parker-Frost large Stockman from late 70's and Schrade 34OT medium stockman below. Second picture is Case Medium 6.5 Stockman in CV.

From left, bone Carl Schliepper at an honest 5.5 inches , IXL Schrade in rosewood, another Carl Schliepper, Schrade 858, Case 6375, another smaller IXL Schrade, and a Schrade 34OT at 3 5/16 inches.

Tongueriver, that CASE 6375 is a notable knife. Any chance of a pic with a blade or three...open? Thanks W

With a little bit of Flitz the rust is gone and it is now my favorite user. It was obviously well used. The scratches could probably tell a lot of stories.

By the way, I learned that Shrade's 1095 takes a fantastic edge. I also learned that you sharpen after polishing. It's much less painful. Yes, it cuts flesh like a champ.

Here are mine. Top one is my grandpas which probably led to the second one I bought second hand around 6th grade. The next one is a spare I bought off ebay recently and a whittler I have yet to try. The blue Case is an Eagle Scout Commemorative I doubt I will ever use.
