Stolen collection in Rancho Cucamonga

I've sent this information on ebay with screen caps to the case detective last week when it was found, although I have not heard back yet. Feel I'm out of options at this point, any suggestions? I don't want to make any pre-mature moves.

Check your email.

What a disappointment in the police. But unfortunately that is always to be expected with these clowns.

I would just walk into the station with the printed out pages and demand to speak to the detective on the spot. You need to act now though. Time is running out!

Or, the op could have a buddy buy one of these items, return address should be included if this thief is as ignorant as he seems. Hope this dude isn't a member here.

So basically we found your knives (I am certain, but only you can answer that) you gave law enforcement all the info, but they are too busy (I guess) to get on this?

This has a time limit. These knives will sell one-by-one, and the whole process of getting your knives back will be much more difficult and some impossible.

There are other options.....

I went through this a few years ago with tools stolen out of my truck. I found a couple of my stolen items on Craigslist, I already had a detective because of the previous theft. Long story short, it would seem cut and dry but it's not that way at all.

The police set up a sting from the CL ad, found and took possession of one of the tools I lost, confirmed it was mine, brought in the suspect from the listing for questioning. After all that the DA said it's not enough, let the guy go on a BS story that he traded for my tool but could not remember who with. To top it all off the local PD left the case open so the tool is in an evidence locker at the police station and I cannot have it back without status change.

I wish the OP the best of luck in getting his stuff back, my advice is to stay after the detective assigned your case. Theft is apparently low on the list of things detectives have to do, at least here, they need reminders often. Call the officer at least a couple times a week, I ended up with more than one detective and the promised call backs often did not come. I see that some of the items have bids already, I would specify to the officer that something needs to be done quickly before the items sell and create more headaches.

Theft is horrible, I am not a vindictive person, but I wish the worst for thieves, in my case it was what I make my living with.

I'm going to assume there is a Homeowners Insurance policy in place. If so, there is probably a personal property theft endorsement as part of the coverage.
Maybe the insurance adjuster could make a phone call to the police dept. & save the insurance company a few dollars. Years & years ago when I was an
adjuster I would have made a visit to the police dept. But back then I knew most of the policeman anyway, so a phone call would have probably worked.

Bid on your own knives and string out payment if you have to until you can get the police on this. You have at least till the end of the auctions. He will want his money and you can email him some BS about having to transfer funds to string him out a few more days if need be.

Ouch. . . that hurts.
I'm in San Diego.
I'll keep my eyes posted on CL.
Postings from the LA area show up on my area listings.

I'd go with this advice here.

I really hope you get at least some of your knives back and I hope the Thief/thieves get caught and get charged with felonies. And I hope they rot in hell for all eternity.

Wow, that sucks! Hope you catch these thieves and get your knives back!

As a side note, my wife is from Riverside and her mother still lives out there and cares for a quadriplegic that lives in Rancho Cucamonga. I'm going to alert them that thieves are in the area and hitting homes.

In case you haven't seen ebay's policy page on stolen property.

Stolen property and property with removed serial numbers policy

What to do if you see stolen property on eBay

If you see stolen property on eBay or items with missing or altered serial numbers, please contact local law enforcement immediately and ask them to contact us using our form reserved for law enforcement officials. Under eBay's privacy policy, our attorneys will provide important records about pending and past listings in response to an official request from law enforcement officials.

When the law enforcement official contacts us, ask that he or she include all relevant information, including the case number and any item numbers or user IDs. This information appears on the listing page.

Please don't use the law enforcement form to contact us unless you are a law enforcement official.

You may need to show the detective the above link... it has additional links, the most important of which is the link to the contact form reserved for law enforcement officials.

Hope this helps.

Its sounds to me like the police are far more comfortable hassling citizens who are not actual criminals, and seem to have a difficult time giving a crap/doing anything about the real bad guys out there. A few weeks ago I paid $140 for a seat belt violation and forgetting to place my updated insurance card in the glove box. You can bet those doofuses were all over that...

Given the lack of police involvement I would just buy one on ebay for buy it now and then show up at the return address on the box and steal my knives back...j/k that's a terrible idea...however I do hope they get this dirt bag!

Hi, Rev:

No email received ( none in spam either, please send again. thanks).

To all:

If you see something you like, please feel free to bid on it, and if you get it with the sender address on it, just give me a holler. I'm not going to bid just because...well, I haven't gotten my head wrapped around it yet I guess.

I'm working on this with both the police and the insurance company, different but both are not easy. I'll give updates when I have them. I'll be calling the station today to see if I can get the detective's contact info (so far all i have is email).

Thanks again for all of you.

Don't assume the Police aren't doing anything. I know first hand the steps the Detective must go through to obtain any information from ebay. Ebay will not just hand over the seller information without a court order (search warrant). Once the search warrant is prepared and presented to a judge for review, it is then mailed or faxed to ebay. Ebay legal then reviews the court order and complies when they get around to it. This usually takes 6-8 weeks! I've been a cop for 26 years, and have sent search warrants to ebay, Apple, and every cellphone carrier known to man. I have one pending (for ip address) with an online wedding website because some jackazz posted they are gonna blow up someones wedding.....wtf? I love it when the cop bashers (usually some dirtbag with a criminal record) chime in to offer their non professional advise, while taking a jab at law enforcement. I hope the op gets his knives back, and the thief gets whats coming to him.

I with others here and I really do hate thieves. The individual who listed those knives on ebay is more than likely the thief. Keep contact with the PD and don't let this slip. JR88FAN did a great job at quickly locating this seller and with the right precautions and actions hopefully we see this thief go down.
