I recently finished this piece and felt it needed Coop's special touch. So off it went :)

I had picked up this piece of ivory a couple years ago and had no idea what to do with it (odd shape). Appears to be some type of artifact. It has a groove cut into the end by ancient hands and there are three stones wedged into the groove. I don't know if they are there naturally or were put there but it would take some force to remove them.

I forged this blade a while back and it just didn't fit any of my ivory, until I paired it up with this piece. An odd shaped blade for an odd shaped handle. I think they work good together.

10-3/4" W2 blade, damascus fittings, copper spacers, fossil walrus ivory and 18k gold pin.

Let me know what ya think and thanks for lookin!

'everybody must get...'!

I think this is my favourite of any Hanson I've seen, (on a computer screen) so far:thumbup::cool:

Over the top as usual. Love the ivory and yes the blade and ivory compliment each other

Well, it's hard to tell because Coop makes everything look so good....;)

I think you made a good choice matching this blade and this piece of ivory. On the top edge, the blade is more straight, the handle more curved, and on the bottom edge the handle is more straight, the blade more curved. Great balance for the eye. And the blade shape is a little unusual, but I like it. Reminiscent of butcher knives repurposed as bowies. Great job all around.

Wow! This is definately different from your usual style. I love the curved guard and the copper spacers as well as the use of mosiac damascus on the guard.

I really really like it.

I have seen artifact ivory shaped similar to that which was once used for sinkers/weights, however they had a hole bored for cord.

In any case an absolute gorgeous fighter. I don't ever say it's my favorite anymore, because as soon as I do here comes another.

I have to say that I love the look of it. I'd be interested to feel it in hand, if it feels like it looks (natural), it's a real winner. I love the natural look!

Very cool but I must admit, I was expecting some kind of joke like a picture of an elephant smoking a joint when I saw the title of the thread.:D

Like it has been said before, can't say it is my favorite, dang it another one comes up. Great work Don on the artifact. Wish we knew the history that piece has had.

Thanks for sharing,
Jim

Don i think it looks great! The way the ivory drops off in the back looks very nice with the blade pattern. And i love the copper it gives a really nice contrast against the damascus. Great job!!:D

Love it !

but...between "flaming crotches" and "stoned ivory" I think you are working on a new sideline as a comedian :D

Bill Flynn
