Stoned Ivory

Great looking knife! I especially like the hamon as it looks like you can see the fire licking the knife!

Thanks again, folks!

Here's a close up of the hamon. Kind of an interesting shot.

Here's an update along with images of the completed sheath. Russet color with Alligator Chevron and Toe overlays. It will head out to its new home tomorrow.

That is fantastic leather. Really goes with this knife superbly

The more I look at this knife the more I think that this might be a new favorite from Don.

Rob I got dibs if ya ever let it go:D

The right steel and a whole lot of practice :)

Paul, I like it! I was thinking a darker color but you nailed it.

Don, this one will turn darker with age and exposure to light. It is actually darker now than the photo depicts.

Wow -what an exotic and unique fighter. It looks like one of those rare pieces that almost seem to have a life of their own; as if some elemental force within the as yet uncompleted knife guided the maker's hand for its own ends. (:D)

"Appears to be some type of artifact. It has a groove cut into the end by ancient hands..."

Make that two elemental forces: the spirit of the blade, and that of the ancient artificer. Guess that precludes any sole authorship claims. ;)

Got a point there, Rick. Guess this isn't sole authorship :o

Y'all don't how close this blade came to not being finished, but I knew the hamon was cool. So just had to find the right handle.

Thanks a bunch, folks!!!

She's in transit from Paul, can't wait to see and handle this beauty in person. Will post impressions after delivery.

Hey Joe, I can't imagine this one will ever be on the list to go but I hear ya and you will be the first to know should that day ever come.

^perhaps made from a sharpened prybar?:p

No Lorien, it will be a real cutter. :)

Coop, it will not be your average Clacker. I'm sure you'll get a chance to shoot it :D

shit, I thought you were joking! I'm looking forward to seeing this 'ace up the sleeve':D

"Stoned Ivory" arrived and I was stunned when I took it out of the box.

This is my second Paul Long sheath and the first I've ordered directly. Fantastic workmanship, fit, and design that compliment the knife perfectly, creating a package my wife and I both are thrilled to have in our collection.

When I saw pics of the knife I thought it was an "art knife". I couldn't imagine the balance portrayed in Coop's photos could translate to feel in the hand. I love artifact pieces so this was not a concern. And "art" it is as the design, craftsmanship, and materials are all top notch, as we expect from Don, that's why he's da man! :D

So what's so stunning? The knife feels great in the hand!!! Balance, grip, proportions...you could use this knife as knives are intended to be used  Every time I pick it up I am amazed at this aspect of what I consider a very special knife on so many levels.

Wish I could have you all over so you can have a feel....uhhhh....I mean experience this knife in the hand.

Huge thanks to Don Hanson III and Paul Long. And to all here for sharing in this great, fun experience for us. My "Coop wanna be" pics :o

The work of two masters

Odd angle. The dark line along the bottom of the handle is a slight, smooth gully that conforms to the hand in an eerily natural way.

"If you move, I'll cut the frog, and your little hedgehog too." Took the pic to show scale and proportion in the grip of X-Large glove size hand. Our animal pieces just happened to line up in a funny way. Check out that vivid hamon
