Street Price of the Para 2 cst-20cp

My Para 20CP preorder is still m.i.a. so I Ebay'd for $200. I'll probably sell the 2nd one if I ever get it (doubtful)

I'd like to see Spyderco host a custom knife app on the home page, like Benchmade's Griptilian customizer.
Millie, Para, and/or Manix ... choice of high-end steel... choice of color. It would be more expensive than a sprint knife at dealer price, but less expensive than scalper prices, plus it might help meet demand over time. Just sayin'.

So your preorder flaked too? I'm disappointed that it has happened to me now on both the S90V Carbon Fiber and on the CTS-20CP Grey G-10. I'm a little surprised that "good" retailers aren't getting the sprints while people selling on e-bay have no problem getting plenty of them to mark up above MSRP. Those e-bay sellers must really be volume movers to get so many of a sprint run.

I tried to buy from an ebay seller named Belote. A month after I paid for it, seller still couldn't provide valid proof of shipping. Good thing ebay is excellent at protecting their buyers and I got my refund. I really thought I had snagged one already. :(

I used to get sour about sprints selling out until:

1) The M390 710 became a regular
2) There'll always be something better - As a 710 fan, do I want an M2HS 710? Yes. Is the steel any better than the M390 or D2 for EDC? No.

I think if any of the sprints Spyderco has produced deserves a second run, its the S90V Para. I couldnt give a fig for the collectors. This knife needs to get out to more people who will carry and use it. And there is a simple way to do that, which is something I started a thread about some time ago. Ensure that all the major retailers stick to one per person!

I like the way you think brother. :D

I bought one from them when the first batch shipped. It was $160 and got it in the mail 4 days later. Two weeks after that they were going for $249. Snagged another one from BladeHQ a couple days ago for $167

Interesting that you would note that specific seller. I was just taken almost exactly the same way on a pair of Ultra Fine rods for my Sharpmaker, by that exact seller. Except that I didn't know about the 45-day maximum to file a claim, and by the time I got done waiting for responses from them, and waiting out their second promised delivery date (never did supply a tracking number), I ran out of time. They haven't replied to any of my three emails since. Caveat Emptor, I suppose. Should have read the policies a tad closer. At least it was only $40 they got me for, instead of a potential couple hundred!

But....you can't just turn S90V on and off as you sort of can with 154CM or S30v...and the only way to really control quantity/buyer is to sell direct from Spyderco, which will be at MSRP, as is done with the Mules. The current system fits right in with Churchill's verdict on democracy. IMHO anyway... ;)

If you look at his negative feedback, you will see a trend of bad service to out of US byuers. I just wanted a grey para so badly that when I saw 5 for sale and 2 sell even as I watched, I didn't bother to check the feedback. I only checked after I paid for the item.

Blade HQ had them in stock for a little while yesterday for 170 shipped. I couldn't help myself! Still beats most Ebay prices.

I feel your pain brother.

I hear you, but I think if Spyderco really wanted to, they could make it happen. They have the power! :) As to one per buyer, there are several examples of retailers doing this, Knifeworks did it with the M4 Millie, to name one. Other retailers also have that policy on limited runs.

I hear you, too, and this is all friendly, but if you go back quite a few years, Spyderco did try to assert a lot of control over pricing, etc., and there was a consumer revolt. Sprints are tough because of the small quantities and sprint-specific costs involved. Dunno...no perfect solution.

Limiting sprints to one per buyer may solve some of the issues..scalping prices on the other hand might be worse

There is absolutely no system that can't be evaded, rigged, whatever. Profit-making has been around since before humans invented money...

I absolutely agree. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with the "system" as it is now. I have gotten every sprint that I wanted just by keeping my eyes peeled.
