Strider Knives. Why So Much?

you say that is if you aren't a part of 99% of them...

Most of the SOS really that gets brought back up every now and then.....

And these threads always go the same way like clockwork....

And by some who have never even held a Strider or even been in the same room with one.

Some things really never change.

I bet Mick loves these kinds of threads. With almost 7,000 views in only a couple of days I bet Strider will be seeing a spike in sales for the month of January. Hey, any exposure weather good or bad always ends up being good for business. So thanks to all the people who keep this thread alive. Keep that economy goin. :)

I hate to see this. We all love knives or we wouldn't be here. I personally do not think Strider (the Man) is worth this. We all have our opinions and have expressed them.
The knives are what they are - it is not a debateable issue. Much like a favorite ice cream flavor OR a favorite color. It is what it is - You like them or you don't. Period.
The deeper issue is one of culture and belief system much like some of the issues that fracture our society as a whole (Politics, Religion, etc.)
Ethics and Morality are very very close to what is at odds here.
We can disagree as to whether it should connect (The Man and His Product) but we should not disagree that what he did was wrong. It was and is that really debateable?
In reading the Long and detailed trail relating to this issue I think it is fairly obvious that the man suffers from some fairly serious psychological abnormalities whether it be Megalomania Disorder or Borderline Personality Disorder whatever it may be, in reading his diatribes - any reasonable person would find the man disturbing at best.
Again, does that connect to his product is a matter of personal decision.
I made no bones that I personally will not have anything to do with his Products or Company and it is because of his conduct. His knives are irrelevant to me after that fact.
For those that can reconcile the man, his conduct and divorce all that from his product - fine, it is what it is.

We are not going to solve anything here other than create a chasm between members. Not worth it, is it?

I always thought a good general rule I read somewhere was "Judge not, lest thou be judged". But maybe I'm not remembering that right. Or it doesn't apply about knife makers. Oh well.

My view is that the only lie I really take offense to from a purveyor of edged tools is something like "My knives are good quality". When that statement's a lie, I start to care.

I think a good rule of thumb a lot of you need to remember is the strongest way you can oppose or support something is with your $$$. If you don't like the knives, and don't want the company to get your business, don't buy the product. The point has obviously been made, the proof has been posted, yadda yadda yadda. There is no need for 10 pages of this. Some people posting really seem to be putting a lot of effort into these attacks on the company. Seems to me that energy could be put into something more important than a guy that lied.

The OP asked if a Strider was worth the money, not if you liked the company/man. An items worth has nothing to do with all the other drama. The way I see it, the only thing relevant to OPs question is quality of materials, workmanship, warranty, and other KNIFE related issues. If you don't like Mick Strider, go make a thread in W&C and whine to your hearts content. There may be some people there who will listen to you, but this kind of discussion has no place in this board.

So would you not buy an excellently made knife if say...the creator was gay and you didn't agree with that?

While that is not my lifestyle of choice, if I did know a maker was gay, it would have absolutely nothing to do with my decision to buy a knife from them...
Being gay, whether the person admits it openly in public, does not fall under my earlier statement of honor, integrity, and a persons word.
I personally look at people that lie, especially at the level Strider did, completely differently... This wasn't anywhere near the same, as the little white lies we tell our kids growing up. Like Santa is real, the tooth fairie etc.

As I said, for some of us, its more than just the knives. I have never held one of the knives, nor do I have any desire to, but by the same token, I'm not going to stoop to the level of bad mouthing the actual product.
Maybe its my loss for not buying one, but I can live with that, and I'm sure they will not notice any difference.

I think it's time to let it go.

Seriously? You are going this far out of your way to keep dragging this shit on? Grow up and get a life brother. I find that getting out of the house every day makes me a happy guy. You should try it.

When I was younger, I thought I had pretty high standards and applied them fairly, consistently and without a whole lot of tolerance or forgiveness.

As I have gotten older, I realize that there are few things I haven't effed up and that the few I haven't are only so by luck or grace. I try to throw fewer stones these days.

And then the Scribes
and the Pharisees
Brought the adultress in
for Jesus to see

Lord, she's sinned,
now the law says
she must be stoned

If there's a one of you
that's without sin
Said you can cast
the first stone in

One by one they left,
leaving Jesus and the woman alone.

Nicely put. I can apply that to a lot of things.

You'll have to make an allowance, I was one of the fools who actually served, it's a bigger deal then you happen to think it is...

Ironically, there are a lot of people still serving that are carrying his knives. Some of them are "covert operators" to top it off. If no one in this thread purchased a knife from him it wouldn't put a dent in his pocket. He will still have government contracts, soldiers will still be buying them and they will continue to quickly sell out at dealers.

The dead horse is dead.

When I got my first Strider I wasn't really impressed, then I got two more and now I love them all!

If you think the price is to high - don't buy! It's as simple as that.

Bingo :)

So people hate Mick because he lied about being a murderer? I've been in a few pissing matches with Mick and I would say he is a first class A-hole. I would also never deny the same occasionally said about myself. Honestly... there are no good lies... There are no "worse" or "worst" lies. Most if not all of us have told a few fibs. Mick is an obvious egomaniac & I generally don't agree with the man.

On topic... Yes. I think the knives are worth their asking price. The reason I think they are worth it is because there are really no other knives like 'em. Their design is top notch and ideal in ways that speak to me. I currently have four & have owned 10. They are not perfect. That's surely the truth. I've not found the perfect knife. There are always some things that I would do differently. The benefits HAVE to outweigh the shortcomings for me to keep a knife even for a few months. I guess the knives just "do it" for me.

Same here . . .

Can't comment on that  As for "Hating" anybody, I personally don't think I hate anybody. I know In or about post #29 I mentioned that several knife brands (Strider) being one of them seemed to attract a fanatical following and by fanatical I meant passionate, loyal, etc. those folks obviously think the knives are worth the price and in a free market pretty much ANYTHING someone is willing to pay for is worth it by definition or it wouldn't sell.
I thought most of the folks expressing objections about the man were doing so because of the lies about his Military Service.
Least that was what I was hearing. As for the knives, it seemed like it boiled down to two groups those who liked them period and those who had some critisisms about lock-up and general F&F.
Again, to the OP's point, ANYTHING you want is worth what you are willing to pay. IF I was building a knife of that ilk I would look at what similar knives cost and price accordingly, apparently that is what Strider did.

I reserve the right to not piss on the flames if Burger/Strider catches fire.

Lying about military service and being a douche canoe are two very good reasons to not buy from an individual.

There will be no resolve to this so long as there are new knife enthusiasts, there will be more Burger/Strider threads with more people wanting the truth, there will be more posts from those of us who have read and posted about it before, it's our job to answer questions with facts first and opinions last.

There will always be someone who will stand by their beliefs that owning a knife produced by Burger/Strider would put them in the position of supporting a company built on lies, not just lies but lies that profit off of others sacrifice.

There will always be consumers who have or don't have the information who argue that there is no issue of honor and that Burgers/Striders outright falsifications of military service should have no effect, that his awards and/or his product stands on their own two feet.

If I found any maker that has falsified military claims as a way to sell his product, I would do my best to expose him for the fraud he is and I most certainly would not buy his products, because I would be giving him profit.

A public "I'm sorry, I lied" that takes balls and until then Strider can lick my nutsack.
