Strider Knives

The design is cool but I couldn't get used to the ergos, didn't ever feel goo in my hand at all. I don't think strider will ever get to CRK level fit and finish, but strider guys don't care about that.

The way I see it is, a Strider is like a Subaru STi and the CRK is like a BMW 3 series. :D

Don't mind the look... every strider I have held has had up and down blade play. I've been told it's from the radiused lockbar design. Not for me, especially for the money.

They are really good knives. They feel great in the hand and are fun to deploy.

I buy them, realize they are more knife than I need, and that they don't excel at the things I actually use my knife for (slicing), so I end up selling them. I hope I can break the cycle.

Maybe its just me, but I actually have a big of a problem with any production folding knife that costs $400 or more and has flat slab sides. I just bought a ZT 0560 and while it may not be perfect. the contoured scales/frame is a big selling point to me. Now if all of these guys could just solved that "stuff sticking you in the hand" problem with clips and such, then we would be good to go.:D Th eone thing that I don't like about the 0560 is that it has a thumbstud and the only reason that I can think of is because they chose to use the stud as a stop pin. otherwise it is superfluous and arguably useless on a flipper.

When you hold one you will understand why they are shaped like that. Amazing how it fits in your hand. Mine was good, but I hear about rough looking new ones. I had the guys at plaza cutlery hand pick a really a good one. Stupid that you have to do that, but my pt cc is awesome.

No, I don't think that I would understand. there is a running joke amongst some knife makers that the reason that mall ninjas all wear tactical gloves is that if they didn't, the square, sharp handles and jimping on their tactical knives would cut up their hands.:D

I think it depends on the person. Traded mine because I felt like I was trying to convince myself it felt good in hand, but it just didnt.

I would hardly call Strider knives "mall ninja" material... Also, if the squared off LEGO handles don't do it for you, the CC models are all rounded and smooth, with no sharp edges.

As for the comments about Strider Lockup, the lock geometry they use has been redesigned, eliminating the problems the old lockup had. Also, the warranty Striders carry can't be beaten...

I love the look of Striders. They just look like "Go to war" tools like an AR-15 and feel good too. I have not had the chance to hold a new ones but I know CrimsonTideShooter's word is good.

The GG is the best of both worlds. You get the CC comfort and the grippyness too. The SnG GG is 3/8 thin.

You do know strider makes 2 other handle shapes, right?

I believe there is a lot of truth to that....

Striders are pretty comfortable though, the standard and CC versions.

For a user knife it's really hard to beat a Spyderco Military IMO.

I moved away from Strider a few years ago after owning a few SMF and SNG folders. My favorite knife at that time was a SMF but after a few months of edc it developed a bit of lock rock and I moved away from strider for my collection. For the last 2 years I have mainly stuck with ZT and CRK knives, which I felt offered similar quality for less and better quality for same $$ respectively.

I recently read a bit about the new lock up and improved fit/finish of Strider and my interest was aroused. Yesterday I took delivery of a new SNG DGG stonewash. The quality is up for sure, but not CRK level. I do feel it's on par with Hinderer and ZT for sure though. The Ergos are just what I remembered, excellent for me.

One thing I do like about strider is its a knife that isn't too nice to use. Some of my nicer CRK knives I just don't want to abuse because they are so special, and quite honestly just excellent in every way. And yet every strider I have owned is a bit clunky and rough, which makes me feel like using it for whatever.

It's weird, you instinctively want to baby most knives priced $400 and up, not because they can't handle it but because they are just so pricey. And the Striders do the opposite, they kind of feel like "give me a beat down, I deserve it", lol. If they had CRK fit and finish then I wouldn't feel that way.

One other thing to note is that every strider I have bought came kind of dull, like the sharpest one was on par with a spyderco you used for a week or so. Even the SNG I got yesterday can barely scrape hair off my arm. Yes, it deserves a beating, lol!!!

I'm a big fan of Strider knives. I especially like the SMF a lot and I expect to have at least one on any given day, for the rest of my knife life. I've had a bunch of them over the years and have some now. SKI as a company, stands behind them as good as anyone in the business too.
