Strider "warranty" process

...what kind of blade play do you have? It's not just a loose pivot is it?

no, lol
The lock had traveled almost 90% or so in couple of months (I thought the new lock face was supposed to fix that issue) causing vertical blade play
nothing to be fixed with the pivot screw..
I'm pretty sure they just put a bigger stop pin on it..I'll know for sure when I get it back

As a USNer myself, I wouldn't bring the topic up there unless worded HIGHLY professionally and in a forgiving tone. Actually, I did mention how I was very disappointed, in a polite way, and people responded very well. They were sympathetic to the fact that I dropped $475 of my hard earned money and got less than I paid for. While I don't appreciate having to censor myself in an otherwise uncensored environment, I also wouldn't go into someone else's home and spark up a cigarette knowing they dont smoke, if you catch my drift?

About the lockbar tension...I'm with you. I don't get it either. Framelocks have been around, what, 25 years? Not many other manufacturers in the class range of Strider Knives have the same issues. Actually, I'd venture to say that they are the only production framelocks that you can expect lock rock and weak lock bar tension on, brand new. It really is a shame too because I think the knives are super cool. Very strong, awesome steels, fits my hand well, and performance oriented.

Oh yes, I was very sure to be as apologetic and professional as possible, because at the time I really just wanted the knife fixed and was not interested in starting a crusade. It was taken care of eventually, and I've now happily moved out of Striders. Whenever I see a TAD SMF CC I drool, but I think I've finally managed to stop deluding myself about the quality otherwise.

I'm going to stop beating a dead horse though. Glad to see the OP was taken care of.

The lockup changing that much in a couple of months is very strange. I hope you get a good knife in the end.

I had not noticed how a few people decided to take this thread and turn it int something it was not, driving it off topic with repetitive commentary and insults. This is not helpful to the OP and it is not helpful to anyone else with the same issue. Whatever your feelings on the knife maker isn't the topic, getting a knife repaired is. One time request, knock that crap off immediately. If you are unable to provide any help based on the original post, keep your hands away from the keyboard while reading the thread, simple. This goes for this section and the rest of the forums. Or don't, there will be prizes handed out for those that cannot concede to the request.

I think it's time to start awarding some prizes!

Or maybe just do us all a favor, & close this one up!

For what it's worth, I'll second Leon in that I had the exact same issue with my brand spanking new SnG, with the new lock radius and everything. The lock looks carbidized... I don't see how/why it happened but def not pleased.

Just don't want to send it in as an international. As stated it's a recipe for disaster.

Final update:
Got the knife back today, and as expected they simply put on a larger thumb stud (blade stop pin).
The lock settles at around 30% now with no apparent blade play (knock on wood!)

So despite the crappy CS, the quality of the repair work done is quite good.

So to summarize:
1- My CS experience with strider was below horseshit
2- A $400 knife probably shouldnt have developed this problem in the first place
3- Threads get out of hand pretty easily :p

as for me, I'm probably not buying any more striders..I'll probably keep what I have but spend my hard-earned money elsewhere

PS. They asked for $25 for shipping and handling, but apparently it cost them only $8.80 to ship the knife back to Canada..

It is without a doubt that they are profiting off of the ridiculous return shipping fee. Insured, FEDEX ground shipping does not cost $25, that is a certainty. Just make sure you stick to your guns when it comes to not buying anymore. I kept deceiving myself expecting the next one to be better, and nope!

Glad you got the knife and it looks ok. And what an interesting thread you created!

I actually read every single post - lol.

Eric

Professional knife shops who ask for "handling" fees are just milking you dry, IMO. There is nothing to be handled in a knife apart from packaging, for which the employees are paid salary.

Anyways, Strider was always out of equation for me since I never liked their designs. Glad it worked out for you in the end.
