Sub-hilt Fighter Progression

When you're done you should put this all on DVD. I'd purchase a copy.

That's a great idea! Maybe I could get Caleb to make a few to sell at BLADE! I'll talk to him about how much it would cost to make them tomorrow. I am thinking of making a series of really detailed DVDs and a book someday when I'm a Master.

Thanks for the complements!

Tomorrow I'll start to fit the guard, ferrule, frame, Ivory, so on and so on.

Here is number six. Enjoy!

Really great progression thread, Kyle. I like your use of videos on youtube. My compliments to Caleb for his fine filming.

You hydraulic press is one of the best designs that I have seen. I think that you and your Dad could sell the plans for it. Judging by how quiet it is when you are using it, I am guessing that the motor and pump are outside of your forging area.

The control you demonstrate with that press is amazing. Your ability to keep your billets so dimensional is probably one reason why even though your patterns are complex they are never distorted.

I'd like to say how impressed I am with your work Kyle. I have been watching your work silently for a while now and I'm incredibly impressed. Your designs are all extremely well proportioned to the eye, something I feel that some makers have trouble with sometimes. To top that off, they all look to be expertly carried out with superb fit and finish. It's just amazing to see the process through a video, I really appreciate the effort you and your brother have undergone for our benefit.

Suffice to say, I have been looking for a while now into what maker I would like to support in buying my first custom of this caliber - well can stop looking now! So as soon as I receive some money that I lent to a certain lady (for a college course she needed before she could apply to grad school) I will be in touch :)

Matt.

Hi Steve and Kevin,

I like my press very very much! I do not foresee myself purchasing a trip-hammer any time soon. The press just works too good.

Hi Matt,

Thank you very much for your complements!

Here is number seven. I hope you enjoy this.

Thank you for taking the time to make and post the videos. They are fascinating and informative. Count me in amongst those that have a greater appreciation of just what goes into a custom knife.

I look forward to following this thread through to it's conclusion.

Kyle you are just out of control! I look forward very much to meeting you in a few weeks.

Thanks for all the complements!

Here is number 9. I've been working on making everything fit together so I didn't have much progress on the outside to show you. Tomorrow I'll be shaping the handle and hand sanding it so there should be a bunch of video opportunities.

I worked on the sub-hilt until 12:00 AM and then I worked on the folder a until 3:30 AM. The sub-hilt is coming out great! My first folder I've been working on here and there is coming out great also. I think after Blade I'll start to dive a little deeper into folders. I better stop talking and get to bed.
