I just recieved the SF.
I have to say that I has shocked by the quality of this knife. The action is smooth,00000 and 0 blade play, frame lock is perfect, edge is as sharp out of the box as any knife I have.I love the all screw constuction.I have carried it all day in the watch pocket of my jeans and could not tell it was there at all. There is not a grip you can hold it in that you do not have access to some traction lugs.
The only thing I noticed that I had to work on was the clip,it was to tight to slip over my pocket, very easy fix though and I would rather have to loosen one as tighten it.
Very nice design and I am hopeing to see some more of Chads work in larger pieces.

Aloha u812,

Thanks for the mini review! Yes, more of well, my bigger designs later!;)

Gos bless and thank YOU bro!

Hello Im new to this forum. I recieved a Subcom For christmas and i love it! For the price and performance it cant be beat. I have added lanyard fob and slightly rounded the jimps for better grip. I think i read in another thread that these knives can be modified to be better. Would you guys know any other mods i can do? Anyways this is a great Knife! I been having a blast practicing my Kali templates with it. I prefer this knife to my Almar slb which made me fall inlove with short fat blades. I will deffinitely get another when they upgrade the steel. Is this upgraded steel version going to be the premium model? It would be nice to have a subcom with premium material. Thanks to CLB for designing a great little knife.

Aloha and welcome Light Skills!

Hey thanks for your kind words regarding the SF...especially that preferance over your SLB!!! Whoa! That IS a great compliment indeed.

Ahhhh, premium model to me would be a Ti version, steel stud, x15 steel...;)

Thanks and God bless!

Well, I just recieved my SF today. I am not very good at reviews, but I will put down a few thoughts along with a few pics.
First off, it is a great little knife!! It is small and if you decide to just carry it in your pocket instead of clipping it to your pocket, it will work just fine. It is a very solid knife and is built very well. It is a strong design. No worries about the blade opening in you pocket as it also locks shut very nicely. Lock up is also very solid in the open postion.
I like the little cutout at the back end if the blade!! It sure helps in sharpening
When I first started seeing the knife I was not sure how I would feel about the mix of materials used to make the handle, but it works out very nice.
I have not been at these boards for a long time, but I am honored to now own two knived designed by a couple of the great guys here. Chad, you did an outstanding job here with your knife!! I keep hearing that you have a design submitted to Spyderco. I can hardly wait to see what it looks like!! I am very proud to carry this knife and when some one askes me about it, I can tell them abit about it and the nice guy who designed it.
Pretty short as I said. I will now let the pictures tell the rest of the story. If you guys don't have one of these, may I suggest you get one. I do not think you will be dissapointed at all.
Thanks, Chad. Solid value for the money!! You should be very proud of your design!!

Thanks for the review Ron, and great pics. I carry my SF every day. Whenever someone holds the knife for the first time they always get this look of surprise admiration on thier face. The latest news is that they have changed the blade steel from 420 to AUS-8. May have to get another one since my EDC SF should truly be a drawer dancer, but I just can't seem to stop carrying it. Awesome knife.

Aloha ghostrider,

Whoa...long time no see! Hey thanks again also for that comment about people's "faces" when they do hold an SF.;) Oh and hey, be careful...the SF, even though it is small, CAN cause a WIDE wound channel...therefore be careful about the knife dancing in your drawers!:D :D :D

Seriously, God bless and thanks...

 My Subcom Folder just arrived. My first thoughts: The best 30€ I've ever spent! It seems to be way more than I payed for. Sharp as a razor, small and handy. The quality of this knife is very high. I don't regret buying it and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I never planned on having an EDC-rotation since I wanted my Strider PT to be my only EDC, but the Subcom-Folder made it into this rotation. Maybe I'll carry both at the same time in the future, because I won't notice carrying them. I can carry the Subcom Folder in places, where I wouldn't carry my PT. It's not because the Subcom Folder is "cheap", I consider it a high quality knife, it's because losing the Strider would make a big hole in my wallet, while I can get a new Subcom Folder anytime. Big advantage here.

Chad, congratulations on your design. Can't wait to see your other designs.

*Thanks DrArnie for allowing the cut and paste of your thoughts regarding the SF*

Mr. Daywalker, I picked up a SF at a gun show today and I must say this is a great little knife. I haven't been able to really use it yet, but I sure I will feel the same as others about the quality. What I can tell you is I can't seem to put it down. It's so different I must have it in my hands as much as possible.:D Congrats on your design! F & F is excellent, lock up is solid and the lock bar covers the tang ~50%. Also came shaving sharp. I love it! Thanks for a great design!

Aloha wwells20,

No need to call me "Mr."...:D Thank you for your support and kind words regarding the SF. Yeah, you know, I designed it and all, but it doesn't mean i HAVE to carry it! Yet, I do. I mean, there are a buncha folks who have the SF, like yourself, so I can get all the feedback I need through you guys. However...

I too, cannot put the lil' guy away! ;) It does take come getting used to, but it's a fun lil' knife to play with.

Anyway, it is I who thank you, for buying the SF...keep your eyes peeled...another may be coming soon! ;)

God bless you and mahalo:thumbup:

I was finally able to run some cuttting tests on my SF today.

On the 1st day on my job, with the factory edge, I cut open a small box that consisted of normal corigated brown cardboard ~1-2 lin.ft. and some standard packing tape. New the knife would shave hair. (seems to be a standard test for sharpness) After that 1 box, it would not shave. I think I mistook a wire edge (burr) for the knife being sharp. At home and under closer inspection, the edge had not been sharpened correctly. With a clamp system, I set my 1st bevel at ~15 deg. x 2 sides = 30 deg. and a micro bevel at ~20 deg. x 2 sides = 40 deg. (1-coarse 2-med. 3-fine (600) stones then strop)

Now back at work, I cut same cardboard "with the grain" ~60 total cuts at 36 in. per cut = ~180 lin.ft. At ~30 of these cuts (~90 lin.ft.) the blade would still shave hair easily. I checked again at ~45 cuts and would remove hair but not easily. At 60 cuts would not shave without pushing harder than I was confortable with. (I was outside and had only my arm to guage sharpness) At this point I carved on some red oak (old shipping pallet) for ~10 min. (I love this little knife but it can be hard on the hands)

Back at home, it would still 45 deg. push cut typing paper albeit not very cleanly and still had a very workable edge. I was quite impressed. No more than a three min. from clamp to strop and it was popin' hair again!

I'll say it again Chad, thanks for a nice little knife that I can pop in my pocket and go a cuttin'.:D

Chad, I'll try to make this short.

You've nailed what I wanted the Spyderco Spydercard to be in terms of size, operation, and carry. I'd prefer a Yojimbo/Swick blade profile, some filework on the liner, and possibly a longer pocket clip. Aesthetically, I'm with Potterma as the handle begs to be modified. :D Carrywise, I like the SF as a neck knife or in horizontal carry.

Negatives. The SF is harder to open lefty and the framelock and liner could possible use filework. I find the 440C is sharp but not as sharp as the 440C of the Timberline Timberlite and the older Buck 110s.

Overall, the SF is a perfect compliment to the quality short blades out there.
I'd like to see it go head to head with the Blade Tech Mouse Lite.

Mahalo wwells20,

I'll say it again, thank YOU for supporting the SF! Thanks also for the great indepth review on cardboard and the like. Have you tried just stropping it from time to time on that cardboard you were cutting?

Anyway, thanks again. The SF is really a pretty good knife for a lot of things, and regarding handle comfort, well, I am trying to suggest a re-design of it...nothing major, just...well, we'll see.:D

God bless and take care:thumbup:

Mahalo Smoke,

Thanks for your kind words! Be advised that the next run of SF's WILL have a longer pocket clip as was intended to begin with, and possibly an upgrade to AUS8 steel. The current steel is NOT 440C, but actually 420J2...not bad though considering it IS only 420J...

The handle...I am trying to request a slight change, but I have to wait until after the SHOT Show to hear from anyone from Boker!:D

Anyway, thanks for your kind words and support. God bless and take care:thumbup:
