Summer snark !

no flooding at my place, but 60 or so miles east in Kansas City is a different story.

Okay it’s officially hot! A squirrel hopped across the yard and Katie our beagle chose to stay in the shade on the porch instead of chasing it .
Generally she thinks it’s her yard and small critters are not allowed in her yard .

My boots are wearing out, big surprise, I know.
However, I have becomes SO used to this model, I hate to change. But up until now, I could not find a source for replacement anywhere. I got some new to me Redwings, built tough, nice quality, but heavy. I have some Lem's boulder boots, comfy, light weight, but not protective enough for work.
Finally found my 'old' favorite Trappeur's on echo-bay. It turns out, they (the manufacturer) have delegated these boots to only one company for distribution.
I am a creature of habit. ...waiting for new skins... :)
....actually, I may get two pair, if the size is still right.

Need some details on these boots - brand, model, water proof/resistant, reinforced toe, type of sole, etc...

There quite plain, not reenforced toes, but lightweight enough to keep me from feeling lame by days end. I'ld call them light duty. At first I looked at them because the soles would not leave black scuff marks on floors that we maintained at my last job.
The trappeur is a wolverine sold through Boot America's site.

Kabar added a new designer to their lineup
Les George.
Liking the looks of the reverse tanto - it's kinda seaxy.

How was the cabin? Couldn't ask for better temps in August
It was fun, but took it's toll on this crippled old man. I thought we hadn't been there for 2 months, but it was actually 3 months. Grass/weeds were freakin' tall. Used to take me about 45 minutes to weed whip the entire yard. Took me 3 hours, plus the wife finished off the last bit. That said, the weather was great!

I just mow a small area around the old farm stead with Sis's lawn mower. If I see signs of fawns bedding down regularly in the the old farm stead building area, I just don't mow. I got local predators that could take them, but one of the ones keep out of the people area. I do have a bear that polishes off the deer feed at times, but he never bothers the property and well I put it out for all critters. I don't bear hunt myself, they are pain to process. I do live trap weasels or let people release the ones they lived trapped and let them go around the buildings, they see all the yummy food around and stay around till mating season usually. Natural small vermin control. If I left a cat around it would be eaten by some thing, I can't do that to a domesticated cat. (I call barn cats domesticated as well.)

Coyotes are notorious cat nabbers.

We have had a more normal season this year, different cycle I guess. High temps have been forgivingly mild, until now, been just shy of triples. We may get a break for a few days this coming week.

Speaking of cats, my very shy cat needs some security training to keep opossum's out. She just watches them... I don't get a dog for her sake. (I should just get a dog!)

Yeah that can be a bonus some times. There is no local agriculture of raising yummy meat makers around here, so the few local coyotes helped curb the feral cats that were killing all the small game in the area. For the past 3-4 years I actually have small game around. For a while I had people trying to make my corner Gravel Pit on the old homestead in to a cat colony of all things. All that did was feed the Eagles, Owls, Chicken Hawks, Fischers, Coyotes, Wolves, Bears, Bob Cats, Hunterswhohatethingskillingallthesmallgameinthearea and Car Tires. In an area where its mostly Black Spruce Swamp, that isn't very good for feral domestic animals to live. I let some goodie two shoes people rescue any they could get, with WRITTEN permission to be on my land and phone number. Things got interesting when the people who tried to make the colony called the cops on the "Trespassers". Nature makes its own balance one way or another. No worries of a mini Australian cat problem, winters kill them off mostly.

The half Russian type swine some one tried to released, almost starved till they discovered deer feeders, and as they moved in the winter the wolves discovered them.

But the biggest wild critter feed makers are cars as they hit the almost to many deer around here. They kill so many deer the bald eagles have never migrated in the winter for almost 2 decades now.

Neighbor brought a bigger green egg grill apart grill because he had tipped the one he had over and cracked a piece out of the dome . He asked if I wanted the older one. My first thought was to patch it with ceramic cement , after looking air over good and doing some research . I found out I could buy a new dome with the grill and extra accessories it would cost $1050 plus tax to buy what I have . A new dome is $176 so I ordered one I have been planning on buying one when we get to our final home in a couple years
Pork loin and potatoes are planned first try on it
