Super polished edges

I'm an Edge Pro user. Similar to SharpGuy, I've had to reposition the knife to get to those hard to deal with areas. That can make it tough to not "facet" the secondary bevel in those areas. I don't have any 1/2 wide stones but I imagine they would be really helpful as well...and for pronounced recurves.

First crack at this (and I suck at photo's - can I blame the iPhone 4?) on a HAP40 Delica:

Been waiting a while to do this one. One of my favs, but that convex factory edge eventually had to go accute.

Not a big fan of CRK sand blasted scales. Been home with the flu. Gotta do SOMETHING. Sharpening was yesterday. Modded the scales today. My first attempt at modding scales. Amen for Youtube instructional vids!

This photo was finished all the way to .5 micron yet it looks like Kirkwoods 1000 grit finished Sebenza ...what am I doing wrong? I loupe my edge and everything ..hell I even skipped the 100/200 and went straight into 400 on this 940.
Problem is you're obviously doing it upside down. ;)

So after my parents whole knife block was touched by the stones I finally able to produce something worth showing you experts. Funny my scratch patterns on the stones are basically a grit higher now if you catch my drift ? The 800 looks like the 1000 did and so on..
Here is my buddies Emissary

*sorry for the OT earlier*

Not nearly a perfect finish. Went all the way from extra coarse to sapphire stone on lansky system. Still sharp as hell. 20171020_143254.jpg 20171020_143542.jpg 20171020_143254.jpg 20171020_143542.jpg 20171020_143323.jpg

Butterfly #2 hot of the WE..I still can’t seem to “erase” all the micro scratches..it’s driving me nuts!
Anyone think the micron stones will do the trick?

It's tricky even with those. And they take a while to break in. They can be kinda scratchy and aggressive fore a while. Ahh the joys...

I’m beginning to realize this whole system is just one big waiting game lol. I’m starting to notice that the scratch pattern put in by say the 400 stones are looking like 600..the 600 looks like 800 did..you get the picture . Also my ceramics are finally starting to give a slight polish. I can even imagine how many hours you have on each stone.

Yeah, I've had mine for about 2 years, so it's pretty well broken in, lol.

I use considerably lighter pressure on the diamonds than the ceramics. I have both sets of ceramics and the 1.4/0.6 do take the finish farther. The 1.4 has a unique feel, somewhat different than the other 3 ceramic sides - kinda' hard to explain. While a no-no with the diamonds, I believe the ceramics can be rubbed together to level/lap the surface (using same grit). Many have found that quite helpful in getting better performance out of the ceramics.

My son bought me the 1500/blank diamond paddle for Christmas. I need to get it broken in and see where I like it in my progression - before or after the 1200 ceramic.

grab a lansky strop (or two, or more :) ) and some diamond pastes/sprays/etc - just a couple minutes more and will really add a shine to that edge, if thats what your are looking for. right now, I'm just running one strop, I believe with a 2 micron paste. will have to try to remember to snap a pic or two on my next sharpening
