Survival Gun of last resort.

You've never taken a human life, have you, South Jersey?

My best friend has taken several in Iraq... he seems to be dealing with it just fine... He even laughs about the time the SAW Gunner was surprised by a man running out of a building shooting and pretty much drilled him at 5 feet with about 100 rounds. Said it made a huge mess. The above post is actually true... some do the "I can't handle having taken a human life" thing... and some take the "Eh... it was him or me" outlook. Not everyone needs counseling when they take a life. Not sure which guy I am... Never killed anyone. Hope I never have to.

No doubt... I was just addressing that fact that some think it can't be done. Again... again... and again... I'm not saying that in any normal situation would I pack only this mini revolver. That would be stupid. But... it's not as incapable as some think.

Oh, I'm feeling you. And I expect that if you went and got the minimaster in LR and put 150 rounds a week through it you would be knocking down soda cans very reliably at 30 yards after a very short time. It's even possible you could get to reliably plinking soup cans at 20 yards if you do the same with what you've got. I don't know that it's possible in that barrel, especially with the magnum powder, but it'd only cost you like $30 to give it a solid two week try. You do have the advantage of having the grip for stability.

Perhaps... I got a 22lr cylinder with the Mini... I've never even used it... I'll try it out and see how my results are at 20 yards and see if I can run up the consistancy numbers.

Interesting way this thread went, like most of these I come in at the end, but its interesting to see what is said.

I have to admit, I dont ever want to take someones life, but I will tell you one thing, if ANYONE were to try and harm my family, that would be the time in my life were I wouldn't think twice.
There are too many incidents of some soft hearted people, or what ever it is not fighting back. Im lucky in the sense that the thoughts I have about protection of my family is the same my family feels for me. My girlfriend would fight tooth and nail to the bitter end, and I guarantee she would come out with a smile on her face.

What do I think the last ditch gun is that I would want?
For my area, 12 guages are most common, shells are cheap and their is really no reason not to be out at the range practicing with it twice a week. I grew up with firearms, so the use of them comes second nature to me. Aside from the 12G, I would like to have a bolt 22, or 308. Again, one of the most common rifles around, so picking up ammo if SHTF would be no problem.

Ok here are some pics... again... I don't expect anyone to take this as proof... But this is how it went down...

Here is the cigarrette pack on a stick. I paced it off.. so I'm guessing between 25 and 30 yards.

Here it is after the 13 shot lot. It spun around so these are the exit holes

This is the walk back to the shelter... I had to zoom the pic of the pack on the stick so this will give a better view of the range

Here is the pack and the stick... you can see where the bullet when through the stick inside the pack.

Here is the exit holes... There is another hole in the side... so I might have actually hit it three times... can't tell

Hey guys, this isnt a thread about the psychological effects of killing in a combat or self defense situation. Lets keep the discussion on track. Perhaps thats a better discussion for the prac tac forum.

Things are gettin a little personal in this thread.

Yes I am familiar. Which means I can also go off topic for 3 pages on lima beans if I want, and just clutter up every thread on here with stuff that has nothing to do with the OP. Or, we can all do our part to keep these threads orginized and on point so that nobody has to wade through a bunch of off topic crap to get the point of the thread.

it's called the 1st amendment!

The First Amendment doen not apply to a privately owned/opperated discussion board that has a clear set of rules that all members must agree to abide by before posting.

This be Sparks house and pirates don't take kindly to such behavior aboard their ship. :D Stick to the code.

it's called the 1st amendment!

Actually the first amendment means nothing here. This forum is privately owned, and there are rules about what you can and cannot say here. If I wanted to say blurt out a list of insulting names at you... I would more than likely get in hot water with the mods... if I kept it up... they'd ban me. There is no freedom of speech in someone else's house.

Good pic's Steel Junky...thanks.

If I had been at the range when you took them, you would have made some money...because I would have bet $100 against even one hit in 50 at 30 yards...so..good shooting! :)

All this .22 talk has got me wanting a .22 "last resort" pack gun now. :D

When I get the spare coin, i'm gonna see about an Airweight S&W .22 revolver (317)...

I like the looks of the snubbie over the longer kit gun model...

I'm sure the adjustable sight and longer tube on the kit model is a more practical wilderness survival gun, but I just like the look of the short fixed sight model, and I lean more to SD than hunting in wilderness guns anyway.

I understand / agree with your concept..just not the NAA weapon. :)

A 317 and a couple boxes of CCI Stingers would be a very comforting companion if ever forced to hunt frogs/snakes/crickets/grasshoppers...would not have to waste ammo on any of those though :) ...well maybe a frog...hard to sneak up on a frog.

Very interesting is the extreme drop in Velocity from the very short barrel on the NAA. The 22 mag is a significant upgrade over the .22 lr.

The CCI is listed at 1255 FPS from a 6" barell... but only reaches 675 FPS in the diminutive NAA. To put that in perspective, the short barrel cuts the velocity by alomst HALF:eek::thumbdn: that is about double the velocity of a BB that a Daisy Red Rider fires.

Carry whatever you want... I'll pass on the NAA.

My sentiments Exactly. Especially when you put that loss of power in a package so small that it is difficult to handle, manipulate and aim. I don't even consider this NAA Revolver to be safe. I have large hands and don't even like to handle small 380's much less this toy. I have always contended that there is no caliber less than 380 ACP worth owning for any reason other than .22's. But .22's in this gun makes them fall into that worthless category of .25's and 32's IMO. I would carry my Walther P22 if I wanted to settle for .22 caliber; at least it is useable or I would buy a S&W Airweight in .22; either of which I think I could, at least, reliably take small game with.

As a question, there doesn't happen to exist any sort of present-production handgun that can have a stock attached, is there? I could see a .22 handgun with a folding/removable stock as being a decent solution, especially with a slightly longish barrel. I don't know if anything like that is even made though.

Once again, I have limited knowledge of firearms, so bear with me.:o

Attaching a stock to a pistol turns the firearm into a SBR (short barreled rifle) under federal law and, to the best of my knowledge, once converted, must remain converted.

You can buy one but must apply for a license/tax stamp through the ATF at a cost of $200.

Attaching a stock to a pistol without the go-ahead from the government is a felony.

Chris

Ah. That would explain it. :D

I'd ask why they'd have such a silly law, but I already know that logic has nothing to do with legislation.

How about something like the Ruger 10/22 with folding stock then? You could still fire that with the stock folded if you didn't have the time to open it, couldn't you?

Those are legal as long as the barrel is at least 16" and the overall length is greater than 26" with the stock in the closed/folded position.

Northeast Georgia... the redest dirt in the land. It's like living on Mars but we got grass.

Any .22 is better than screaming for help.
The little NAA's have their place. And they work well for their intended uses.

Are they the most optimal? No, by far. But they will work.
