Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

There for sure haven't been enough apologies and retractions from folks like this who amped up the brand.

THIS 100%

There were a few others that wrote GLOWING articles on Guy and his awesome business. More than once industry insiders glossed over the massive backlog and other obvious issues. Now, they are silent. $1m (at least) in unfulfilled order and multiple suppliers left with unpaid bills, and not a damn peep.

There are still customers posting on the FB page that are unaware of what has happened. Guy and Ellie did this, but a lot of industry peeps helped them along the way.

I won't argue with you very much because I respect your opinions, and for the record, I think it's reasonable that HST can be guilty by association. Fair or not, that's how the world works.

Where I think HST is coming from is the classic S!K fanboy place- you have to sell product to make product to fulfill preorders.
The problem HST walked into was 100% inherited, and the GSO 4's that they were selling were paid for by past customer ages ago.
If I found myself bought in for $30k to Survive and I had to make it work? I'd probably do the same thing.
But once you're in the rears, I guess what alternative do you have?

The only difference is there's no way in hell I'd find myself in that predicament in the first place.
If I was Guy I would have folded up shop a long time ago.
If I was Heavy Set Tactical I never would have gotten involved.
I think a smart customer would either never buy from Guy in the first place or work like the devil to get their money back.
We can agree to disagree, buying into a company that has a reputation like survive did, after being warned, I think says enough about Jon. The $$ he envisioned overrode everything else and he became complicit. He could have bailed and blew the whistle with what he knew a while ago, did he? No. He encouraged sales.

I'd like to congratulate Jon for assembling enough kit knives during his storied tenure to have what it takes to be a knifemaker. With that kind of drive and genius he should be president of the knifemakers association and a Master Bladesmith in 4 to 6 weeks. I remember Jon commenting that he just reviews knives as an end user, he has a regular job so add all that in and it makes this new idea all the more monumental!

I mean, that's a fair point. In retrospect it may have landed him in the same spot he is now, though I'm not sure he could collect the collateral after the coups de grace.
Imagine dumping $30k into something and immediately realizing, "welp, shit... we're insolvent".
I'm also positive that he had no idea what he was getting into- the fact that $75k was a drop in the bucket compared to their yearly bills would have been a great clue, but I'm sure Guy didn't reveal that upfront.

On that, we can agree, I just think he was a well-meaning, naĂŻve idiot with illusions of grandeur; He wanted to save S!K, become part of something he believed in and get his foot into the knife industry.
I don't think anyone that had to front $30k to buy into backorders stretching back 9 years would ever think they were going to make easy cash, but who knows, maybe I'm all wrong and he was in the wrong business for all the wrong reasons.

But alas, Guy ruins everything he touches, including people, so if HST becomes persona non grata? so be it.

Isn't this horse dead yet?

Asking for a friend.
no sir! there's still plenty of go in her yet!
We've not even got through the civil and criminal litigation yet!

I hear the wheels of justice turn slowly, so might as well get a bag of popcorn.

My teeth wouldn't last through the unpopped kernels sure to be lying in wait for me...

This aged well.
yes...... it did didn't it. Jacob "Girl Voice" went in hard handjobbing for HST and Perish! once his Tube Buddy Jon gave him the scoop he was the new part owner.... he then went "full retard" (to quote the movie) here and on The Tube slugging it out with anyone who dared question the new narrative that needed pushing. I can't be bothered going back and unpacking it but it was Girl Voice that started calling Jon a new owner before Jon was (which is probably just a mind dump from their intimate conversations vs what the public "investor" version was supposed to be). You question the version he wailed and flayed. What I find amusing was posting on his Tube "Perish!" vid that his buddy HST was out (after HST himself had said so deep in the comments of a knife review) and Girl Voice asked where I heard that (happily directed him to it - neither that comment of mine or his question went through "the filter" to be publicly seen). Clearly Strawberry Vape Jon bailed without briefing his quick reaction force..... :D

This is a really REALLY good example of how the how "Influencer" handjob system works for THEM and really does very little for the consumer at large.

I laughed my ass off reading this! "Strawberry Vape Jon" and "Jacob "Girl Voice." That is awesome! You wrote a few literary gems in that post. Cheers!

I don't have a high opinion of influencers. I've long thought of Guy and Ellie as influencers (not good ones) so it makes perfect sense that they would attract other so-called wannabes. Influencers exist in a domain that I don't frequent much so it's easy for me to ignore usually. I start taking issue when influencers come here and try to push views to their channel with every other post. That is something that a recently banned individual did a lot of so his absence will always be a boon for the forums - he was simply here for himself.

It's also important to note that influencers are able to do what they do because they can usually control the narrative on their chosen platforms and they can cultivate an army of sycophants at the same time. It's manipulative and gross and not at all worthy of reasonable peoples' time or attention.
