Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

Another piece of the puzzle is that looking at the normalized percentage of product that's cosmetically flawed is usually pretty deceptive. Errors and such don't really happen at a uniform rate, because they often are caused by something external. Maybe you're buffing the blades and don't notice some metal fragments on your tools. That's going to make a lot more 'seconds' in that one instance than you'll normally see for a long time.
I don't know what you do for a living, but it's my sincere hope you get to use all those beautiful brains.

Also
Survive Sux.

That's going to make a lot more 'seconds' in that one instance than you'll normally see for a long time. Or if someone shaping scales tied one on last night and came in hung over, same thing. Heck, in a company as small as Survive it could just be someone having a particularly bad day. Now, again, if you're a very large company making literal tons of product even those will even out, but Survive is nowhere near that large, so we could reasonably assume that what you would get would be long periods with extremely few seconds with rare instances where they suddenly have many more. That would make it just about impossible to offer pre-orders on them.

Right. So it is either this:
Survive Sux.

Or they pre-sell "anticipated seconds" in order to keep the scheme going and bring in money from victims customers.

Which one is it? Suck at "making" knives or a deliberate act?

The answer is both: “inefficient company with bad business practices”. We already know that the answer is irrelevant because it doesn’t change the pickle they’re in, or how they chose to respond to said pickle… which is to make their customers choke on it: particularly those folks from 5 years ago who are still knife-less.

I can’t figure out how they manage to subsist.

Are we even talking about the same knife company/knives? The one thing I'll give S!K blades is they will cut like crazy. Thin edges, and very sharp. I'm not going to say they STAY sharp as long as I'd hoped (especially considering the hype of 3V), but they COME sharp, and definitely not pry bars with edges. Not any of the ones I've gotten.
The newer knives do slice better. The GSO 5.0 and 3.5 that I have in 3V we not able to do what I needed and I am just cutting fish and sharpening sticks to cook the fish with well. A typical pocket knife works better for me. I did put their knives on a sharpener and it did help. I gauge saber vs saber and scandi vs scandi. I got a 7/7 second hand and it's profile is better than the blades of 2015 for me. I think a design change in the new models point to that defect. I can't get the new blades to tell you if they work. I don't trust them to send them money. I tried to talk with them and even followed up after a pal of mine asked them the same thing. " Will you make the blade before the end of the year and notify me when it is done and I will pay you" as I wanted to give him a chance to prove his word and you can tell from my comments I am not a shill for Survive. I can't come up with an excuse for the past but if he bought new equipment and got his business in order I would listen. I was told to order and wait and be subject to a penalty if I cancelled. If you don't understand the pry bar reference then you have to understand it is not the edge that splits wood. The wedge does it not the edge that is why a scandi splits wood better than a flat ground blade. However a proper scandi or saber should slice well for general use. Take a LT Wright vs your Survive and see which one slices better.

Looks like the GSO 3.5 orders have shipped out. GSO 6s shipped. GSO 4.5s are currently shipping in large batches along with GSO 12s.

Well dang. If only I hadn't canceled my 4.5 order at the 21-month mark, when it was promised in 10 months, and would now be at the 40- 50- 60-month mark (??? I'm not going to take time to check but it would be fing ridiculous) I guess my 4.5 would be shipping........

Holy hell... the 12's. How many years ago was the sign-up for those?
I think 6.

Totally unacceptable timelines. If it was my business I would be looking at including a small companion-type knife along with people's long overdue orders by way of apology. I'd even look at sending people like yourself something who canceled their orders.
Wow. Why not man up and come post under the Survive account?
Forgot my password

I’ll play, how would you know what’s been shipped… especially the large batches?
That's a great point. I should have said it looks like they've been shipped and in large batches. Supposition on my part based off what I've seen.

With that tentative group order in mind I've been watching their newsletters, social media updates, videos, and following people who have ordered their knives and have been receiving them (or haven't received them yet).

It's possible they went to a lot of effort to fake videos and pictures of dozens (possibly in the hundreds) of their knives in their shop. Perhaps they posted a picture of all these knives on their Instagram just to have them sit there, I'm not sure why though.

I suspected there was a chance all these knives "meant for individual buyers" would end up in knife stores like BladeHQ so I've been keeping an eye for batches of Survive Knives to show up at retailers but haven't come across any. There hasn't been a flurry of factory 2cds either.

So you saw some pictures, got it

Why hesitate, “fortune favors the bold”

Given their well earned reputation, it wouldn’t be surprising.

Any objection to me posting some of their pictures here and maybe get a critical eye on what I'm seeing?
None at all.

If I felt like wasting my time I would search some of S!'s older posts where they show pictures of a table full of knives, in various stages of completion of course. The pictures always seemed too mysteriously be posted when the fanboys started getting restless about delivery dates.
I'm bold with my money, not someone elses.
You either trust them to deliver or you don't.
