Survive! Knives Heads Up

I thought about suggesting that one as well, he was looking at the LMF2 I will also point him to the BK-16. I figure for his price point 1095 is his best bet, 3v one day :-D

Thanks for the help! Is the deal with the mk-2 that it's just a bit pricier due to its exclusive nature?

My go to recommendation for anyone right now is the gso 5.1 so I'm a little out of my depth with this recommendation

I have no experience with the mk-2, but have beat the hell outta a bk2, 7, 9, and 16 over the years and for the price you won't get much better...I've literally beaten the hell outta my 9 and haven't had to sharpen it beyond stropping in around a year...It's reprofiled to 15° per side with a micro bevel and still has held that acute edge just fine.

Ok, redwood, what about the bk10?!! It has more Beef than the 16 but is still more compact than the 9 and more streamlined than the 2.

Haha I will to ask if he prefers drop vs clip points. I prefer drop, which may have jaded my suggestions

Yeah, the clip point and thumb ramp are less woodsy, but the price and size seem perfect for what you described

If the drop point is worth $50 then the bk12 (mk2) is a great option. Otherwise the RAT 7 might be worth looking into.

The 10 is one that never appealed to me...I find it to be a hideous looking blade lol...

I would've gotten a 12 thou had I had the chance... I performed a mortal sin when I bought my gso 6...I sold off my 17° per side polished convex bk2 and my 2 tops BOB's lol I found myself looking at em thinking you'll never be used again ha ha...The bk2 really cuts like a laser with the right edge on it.. Somewhere in the Becker forum I posted pix of a tooth pick featherstick I did with the 2...

I love my bk16 with 710 customs kydex sheath...It's been my edc for about 6 months. Thou it's been kicked off my belt by the 4.1, I'll likely never sell it...nor will I sell off my 9 that's wrapped in 710 kydex.

OR if we really want to overthink thinks and continue derailing this poor thread :) have you ever looked at Steel Will knives? They have some models in the price range you're looking at.

MK-2 is made by Rowen, no? Different coating, and there is fancy milling under the scales? i think that is part of the price difference.

Redwood, I own the LMFII, Strongarm, and a BK-16 which I'd be willing to offer for your friends perusal if you're willing to cover shipping? Still on the look-out for a Tops BOB. The BK-16 is very light and very comfortable in hand, close competitor to the 4.1, imho, but a lot cheaper. I'm waiting for my 4.7 to ship out to take comparison pics, the 16 was bought specifically to compare to the new 4.1 whenever that makes its debut.
I would say that I consider all of these to be smaller knives - EDC/hike/hunt, I definitely prefer a longer blade for camping and if any batonning is intended. My $0.02

When is he going to review the new 5.1

Every time I see that there's a new video in my queue I have a hope that it is his review. The thing is though, any time he does a review he usually starts by saying "so I've been using this knife for the last few months" or "I've had this knife for a year now and here are my thoughts".

Curse that Guy for basing his reviews on long periods of thorough use and experience :D

You guys are awesome, to avoid de-railing this thread I will move it to the survivor chat thread!

I'm hoping to score one of the new 4.1's somehow when they drop...preorders were closed by time I became addicted lol..Hoping to get a pre order in on the 4.5 before it closes...i would've already but I ended up getting another new old spec 4.1 instead.

Hahaha!

Bobby, getting a new 4.1 on a Monday someday definitely won't be impossible. Also, you don't seem to have any problem acquiring GSO's, so I'm not too worried :D
Lol yea but my wallet would prefer retail prices so it can fund more of the addiction ha ha...Thou out of the ones I have I only really feel I over paid on one..the rest being new only paid $20-30 over the survive site pricing.

The rest I believe is pure dumb luck lol...thou I'm going to have to get a part time job to fund my survive addiction if I continue to spiral down this path [emoji12] .. And to think I just got my first a month ago.

Oh god no. may as well carry a plastic spork into the wilderness. We would have saved silver from that misfortune somehow.
I tried the bg ultimate once, gave it an honest try...snapped the blade in half doing tasks I've done with other knives without issue.

Yea, it's a shame what happened to Gerber. There was a time when they actually made a pretty decent blade. I guess that is just what happens when you try to put quantity over quality in the knife world.
