Survive! Knives Heads Up

gso 5.1 in 20cv on the exchange

That was a great "no waiting period" deal for a 1st production merchandise including S&H. Certainly about $100 less than what he could have gotten on eeeBay! Kudos to and win-win for both the buyer and the seller.

Keep in mind the auction site has atrocious fees and there is a PayPal fee on top. A GSO 5.1 sold for $350 nets about $295 to the seller, and you have to go through the risk and headache.

To sell it here slightly lower is a way better deal for many.

I totally concur!

I sell professionally on eBay and have been doing so since 2002 (automotive literature only, not knives, tools; or anything of that nature) and even though I benefit from paying slightly lower final value fees, I will not take the risk of selling one out of the two which I had ordered from Survive! (probably the 20CV) on eBay precisely because of the potential headaches for the sake of making say $30-$50 max after all the fees are paid.

If I gift my brand new TOPS BoB to my brother as his BD present, I will most likely let go of my unwanted 5.1 on here. TBT if I had not already ordered those 2 factory 2nds from Survive on the 11th, I would have been seriously tempted with the one listed here today if I had seen it in time (BIG IF!)

One just popped up on the bay - perhaps the same? Also a great price on a 5.1 2nd is on there. That guy's losing $

Yup, the GSO 10 is the same one.

On the GSO 5.1, he is barely breaking even or may be losing a few bucks after all said and done. He must not have liked the one he received although from the pic I don't see the big deal. The lighting portrays that the handle is more messed up than the metal but I'm sure that's just an optical illusion.

Yeah, i'm wondering if that really was the actual reason it was a second or not

Sorry for my lack of description. The reason why it is a second is the metal edge part where it meets the handle scale only. The handle is perfect. Thanks for looking!! (I will update the description)

I am selling it because I need the money. It is very minor and I only found the difference because I compared it to my other 5.1.

Hey, no worries, you're good I was basically saying that because it seems so minor that I'm surprised if that's what made it a second. You really should post it over here on the forum so you don't lose so much $ on the fees. I'm sure someone would snap it up quick. I really cant believe it's not sold already over there.

I didn't post it here because I would have to pay $30 for the subscription. I'm just trying to break close to even. Thanks.

Unless there is some special deal you get over there, you are probably going to pay $30 or more in fees if it sells. Last one I sold there was close to 20% fees after the auction fee and PayPal fee. I was extremely surprised when I got the bill at the end of the month after it sold.

So in short, if you only ever have one knife to sell and you get a deal over there it may be ok, but if you may have more to sell in the next year, and you get a normal deal there, you are cheaper to buy the $30 here and sell it here.

Your right. The fees are painful, but I have been selling my stuff there for a long time so I guess it is easy for me.

I noticed that you pulled your auction. If it was me, I wouldn't ask any less than $250 for that knife on eBay and I'd wager that you'd get $275 for it if you were prepared to sit on it a for a few days (if that long) You have to excuse me if I seem as if I'm trying to teach you something about what you wish to do on eBay, which is not my intention, just an honest opinion FWIW. The fact that you listed twice and pulled twice will possibly attract more headache cases, so be careful about pulling your listings.

eBay is offering 8% cashback (eBay cash which you'd get in form of a quarterly eBay coupon to use toward future purchases) to certain buyers on transactions over $100 (don't know what the cap is) so had I not already ordered 2 GSO 5.1 (2nds) directly from S!K on Monday the 11th, your knife would have been a very attractive proposition for me specially since one of my orders is for the exact same handle (not everyone's cup of tea) but with the 3V steel instead.

In any even, good luck and hope that you shoot for a net amount which doesn't leave you in red. With the supply and demand being as it is on S!K knives, you should not lose $ on an unused 5.1 whether in the secondary market of eBay or on here, be it a 1st or a 2nd!

FYI for the general thread readers:

I'm pretty sure that the GSO 5.1 2nds from the Monday the 11th orders must be going through fulfillment (in actuality and not some abstract statement) because I received an email earlier on today to inform me that on 1 of the 2 which I had ordered, they were having issues with their G10 handles in black and whether I was open to switching the handle to something else and they were kind enough to throw in a little gift to make up for the "inconvenience". This was no issue to me at all and I gladly informed that I'd take the Camo canvas instead since I had it ordered with the Earth colored kydex sheath.

Heck, I think that at this point I just rather keep both and use one (probably this one described here with the 20CV steel) as a trade bait with someone for a 3.5 or a 2.7, if I fail to get one of those as a 2nd down the line. Decisions, decision!

Thanks for the heads up CS. One of mine is in black g10, so I'll go check my email. Good luck with your sale shumanlives, that's a nice blade.

Thanks. I do appreciate any information. It has been sold outside of Ebay so I pulled it. I usually do well in selling knives on Ebay, but I needed the money from this sale to pay for my kids cub scouts trip (due by Friday) or else I would have listed it higher and waited.

You did what you had to do. No explanation is necessary my man. The money is going toward a noble cause anyway  (anything kids learn while away from video games is great)

Do you feel lucky? You may land their last black G10 handles in PERFECTO condition ;)

Nope, I got the notification too. No big deal. I'm going with black & red g10 instead this time. That'll just give me an excuse to make another order for the black g10 later :D
