Survive! Knives Heads Up

Aha! Great to find a fellow fan!

I have the Cosmos blu-ray set as well. My wife and I have watched it more than once, and I also have the book to accompany the set, which my son @ 2 is a little young for, but one day I hope will enjoy it as we have. :)

Our lot at home is only about 8000sq.ft, so a bit small for a larger breed, but my wife has been wanting a GS for years! One day maybe :)

And yes you are right about my comment towards the auction site that will go unnamed. Ellie has her hands full, but I guess one day they just might set an auction up. Personally I am OK with them focusing on improvements to the product rather than figuring out the best way to possibly sell the 2nds, which IMHO are not what Guy wants to be pushing anyways. I think it's just a compromise to get the knives that are functionally perfect so too good to scrap out the door, meet more of the demand and not tarnish the reputation of company as all edge blemishes are scrapped. 2nds are very minor cosmetic issues from what I can see, and not far off what CRK sells as firsts. In fact I have seen 3 2nds now whose blemish is what CRK would call "within spec" and happily charge full price for.

And yes here I do believe we are a little more hardcore. :D

I also lap up all the new episodes of, "How the Universe Works" on the Science Channel. Some of the stuff offered by Through the Wormhole. Also liked a lot of the presentations and programs that Professor Brian Cox did (the British guy who looks anything but a professor) I'm already p*ssed that I won't be around when the scientists discover and verify all the really cool and fascinating stuff regarding the other 95% of the Universe which is not based on matter! Anyhow, I am now digressing so back to Survive!:

I think that the Survive! Team has a business philosophy to micro manage rather than go the route of many others who have networked with national / international dealers, eBay / Amazon and similar online platforms. It will be interesting to see if and when they will eventually diversify, but for now that seem to have a very nice niche in that sought after semi custom knife making market. I have come to like them, their products and their avid followers and customers.

Tell your wife that if she really wants a GS, she also better get a very good Dyson vacuum and be up to vacuuming after the pup everyday :D They are one of the smartest and most wonderful, loyal and intelligent dog breeds which are usually excellent with children but boy oh boy, do they ever shed!

Indeed! I've got email alerts on this thread, in the hope of finding a 3.5. Let's get back on track please?

Was there ever a GSO 2.7 or is this a new line release altogether? For some reason I've had an epiphany to concentrate more on Survive! GSO models on the smaller side of the scales. seeking 2.7 > Necker II > 3.5 for now (did anyone else see that original style used Necker without handles sell last week for $187 on feeBay )

P.S. point taken fellas and apologies for the the frivolous email alerts. Justin and I will take our new bromance elsewhere ;)

The Production Page information regarding orders paced on Mondays runs has now been revised. IMO the revision is now much more accurate and in line with my most recent experiences:

" Production Schedule

As the models are getting listed for regular ordering, we will be finishing and sharpening the blades before listing them on Mondays. The orders placed each Monday will get built and shipped within 15 business days. For more information about placing an order with SURVIVE!, check out our How to Buy page. "

Couple really good looking 5.1s on the big auction site, prices are getting better again as well.

Yeah, the seller may even be related to me ;)

Just gonna keep the newly ordered 4.7 from this past Monday's sale and whichever 5.1 which does not sell first. Don't care if it is a 3V or the 20CV because I will also let that one go whenever I get my GSO 6 which I preordered. for the future though, I'm going completely choiless!

Regarding prices, I dropped them by $20 but asking more for the 3V because I rather NOT sell that one first. What gets me is that the others don't even disclose that their stuff is a Factory 2nd

If anyone from BF is interested, I'd let them go for 295 and 275 respectively whichever first, but not at those prices on that Auction Site!

Looks like Tricky is buying the GSO 4.1 on the Exchange. Good for them both

I've sold a couple of my unwanted blades (not GSOs) on the Exchange during this past week which evidently went to good homes. However, even if unused (just unboxed, held in hand, tested on paper and put away) expect to get a 30% haircut on these mass produced knives like ESEE, TOPS, etc (worse loss percentage than rolling a new car outta a showroom)... Of course this kind of loss factor does not apply to the more sought after makes and models.

After fees and shipping, you almost always lose something. I do well on my CRKs, but the only ones I've done REALLY well on is S!K.

This (dabbling in knives) is not my game. If you've already looked me up, I specialize in hard to find auto literature. Luckily for me, I'm not going to lose $ on my GSOs that may end up being surplus to my requirement!

Just as MDPete had posted earlier on in the GSO 6 thread here on the front page, the GSO 6 is still showing as being active for ordering (as of 13:30 PDT on Sunday 5/15). I am not quite sure as to whether Survive! forgot to deactivate it when they moved this model to the production phase or whether they are trying to get more to roll along the production (maybe the preorder numbers are still low), so to the fence sitters here now is your chance to unrest your laurels :D

My guess is, they are going into the office on Monday, and will shut it down then. Other knives have had the same thing happen.

This is kind of how they roll. The same thing happened with the 12 and I'm pretty sure some other models. They usually have a cut off on a Friday, but don't pinch it off for real until after the weekend. Probably good news for the procrastinators

That's a very nice Barkie you've got there too Neil. Hope that she finds a good home
