Survive! Knives Heads Up

I heard the guy who bought it is quite a stud. Hopefully we'll see some pics and thoughts on it later this week.

I'll have more of a head start with my jealous rage than I thought I would ;)

I'm pretty positive that it's the only 4.1 that went out so far and was sold by the shop Guy started from.
I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I believe it's the one on the far right.

Thanks guys. This is my grail knife, and I can't believe I got the first one. I couldn't resist!!

Reviews to come.

Well now that I have secured the knife, I will let you know that there WAS a new spec 5.1 on the exchange at a pretty good price. Needs a good sharpening which will not be a problem at all. I told myself that there is no way that I need another 5.1, but you know how it goes.

I was wondering who was going to scoop that up. Nice score and a little tlc will have it back in fighting shape!

But, of course!

Sweet! I scrambled for that one when I first found out that they were at Edgeworks, but was too slow. Congratulations T!!!

Vernal still has an unused F2 5.1 up on the exchange as well unless it has sold privately.

I'm glad you got it TRfromMT!
I can't wait to see you work your magic on a set of scales for it.

Couldn't have gone to a nicer guy. Looking forward to the world's first review!

I was about 6 hours too late on instagram. I just about shat a brick when I saw the pic that Standard posted here.

No, it was me.
Haha! Sorry my mistake ;)

This is just what our forum needed. Thanks, TR :D

I don't think we deserve special treatment, but some of us follow S! VERY closely and to see someone else get this one early surprises me. I mean I get how ordering works and that things ship out when their ordered. The same thing happened with the 4.7's. One popped up on ebay months before we got ours here and some guy from the FB got one months before they really started rolling out.

Those handle fitment issues really must be the bane of the S! team. Beyond frustrating for us and I'm sure a nightmare in the shop.

ROTFLMFAO!!! Silver, NOTHING gets shipped out as it's ordered.

At this point, could we just PAY more to move up in line? No wait, can we just pay more to get what we paid for originally? Silver, do I detect that the Koolaid is running dry? I swear there is sarcasm in that last comment. I gotta hand it to you though brother, you are the most positive, patient guy I ever knew.

Apparently there is time to make one off's and customs in the shop while we're all waiting on continuously extended deadlines for shipping of production knives from pre-orders, pre-sales, Monday maybe sales, middle of the night tom foolery sales, vapor ware sales, et al.

The reality is that very few of us are getting our knives these days but there is all types of shenanigans going on over at Surviveland.

Can I just start sending money to S!K until I get a shipping notice? I would at this point.

Just get me my 2.7 that I ordered in July because the sales thread said delivery "in a couple months" and I'll move on. In the future, I'll pay the secondary market price or wait for the day when Survive!Knives has actual knives for sale that are ready to ship.

I guess I should have just bought the 2.7 on the bay with the 108% markup when it got listed last week. I'd have it in hand right now.

I know Silver can clear this up for me but let me see if I have this correct. Let's say, I buy a first and go on the "you'll get a knife one day list" (regardless of the written commitment of a couple months for delivery). Then my brother Rip Van Winkle says, no, I'll wait and get one later. But then, the blades come in to S!K and as the "firsts" are being built, they find some seconds and some Ugly Betty's. Then they go on sale in one of the above mentioned venues. Brother Rip buys one and he gets his since it was finished up as they go along, yet I still don't have my "first" because it was a "pre-sale" and the pre-orders and seconds are shipped first? Why wouldn't you fill all of the 'Firsts' orders first, then sell whatever is left once those shipped. Seems I could have bought a "second" and gotten it faster.

So anyway.

Then my brother Rip emails me and says I need to come over right away to see the new knives he just got in the mail today. Yep, he got a new GSO 8, a new spec GSO 10, and a new GSO 12, all made from unobtanium with scales made from unicorn horns. HE just bought them LAST WEEK on Socialmediaofchoice.com and they showed up today.

When is enough, enough Silver?

Unbelievable...............

And now, so as not to derail this thread..........

Made that ceramic sharpening rod like I said I would.

YES, that is a SURVIVE!KNIVES GSO 4.7 in CPM-20CV. The nicest fixed blade I own. It's gonna look nice covered in the blood of a nice buck or a big ole hog this season.

I agree they should just focus in the pre-orders and do the seconds etc after all pre orders are filled
Would be much more respectful of the people who invested good money in yheir company

I worry that respect has nothing to do with the decisions that are being made, and that necessity is driving the decisions at the expense of alienating loyal customers such as Hale Storm. I doubt if they would be doing it if they had another option, but I fear that they have no choice.

Ronnie, my man, take some deep breaths :)

There isn't anything I can say that will really help, but I do know how you feel.

I have mixed feelings about whether seconds should be allowed to go out before firsts and I remember that debate came up back with the 5.1's.

I really don't like the R word, but if the wait really is killing you, about all you can do is ask for a refund so you have the money to buy on the secondary market or wait it out. Neither option may be overly appealing, but since your story about Rip seems pretty spot on as far as who gets served first, those might be it for the present time.

"I've got a bad feeling about this..." But I'm going to put my two cents in anyway. :)
I'm guessing that the defect rate is turning out to be high enough to make leaving the blades destined to become 2nds and Uglies on the shelf impractical.
Remember, Guy has committed to producing some set number of 1st run knives, and he has a large but finite number of blades available to make them from.
He kind of has to at least try to make a 1st run knife out of every potentially suitable blade.
Since the 1st run GSO knives have to be essentially perfect it seems to be taking a lot of Guy time to make them happen.
The 2nds and the Uglies do not, I assume, require nearly as much Guy time before they can go out the door.
So, slap some handles on them and get them out the door, makes sense to me. It keeps the future prices down for everybody.
There were just a handful of custom drop point 5.1 knives produced. I assume that was mostly to give Guy something different to do other than banging out 4.7s all the live long day.

Silver, refunds are kind of a fact of life when the delivery date slips as far as these have.
Anybody that jumped into the Starter Campaign had no real idea of the production order or the delivery time frame.
When do you think those Starter GSO-10 models are going to be shipping?
The first thing I learned about Survive is that they make great knives at great prices, especially if you can get your hands on one.

I can't imagine the pressure that the survive team is feeling to get these knives out. I am sure they want nothing more than to get these blades out. Having said that, I think it would be better to communicate what is really going on with the delays. I firmly believe customers would do better knowing what the problems are and what Survive is doing to fix them. I have often questioned why they can't scale the production while maintaining quality.
