Survive! knives

Depends on whether or not I was told up front it would be a 6mo wait time. If I know that going in, and I agree to it, I can't really complain about it, right?
But if your website says knives ship in 5-15 business days and twice that many days pass and you don't hear anything, people start to get antsy.
Again, it's all about expectations.

Rasco, I hear what you're saying and don't necessarily disagree with you. When someone states a specific time frame you expect them to honor it. However, I think that Guy's openness to admit that they are behind will take a bit longer means a lot. Seriously, if you need a knife right now, buy one from one of the many dealers that has one you like in stock.

Should Survive! Knives honor their statement a knife ships in 5 to 15 days. Absolutely! They need to change that on their website so it reflects how long it will actually take to get the knife shipped. All I'm saying is cut them a little slack. They are a new company suffering from growing pains, they've just move shop and they are learning from their mistakes. They make an excellent knife that actually holds up well from real world use. Good things will come to those who wait patiently.

Customers have been cutting Survive! Knives slack for too long in my opinion. Guy has known about his problems with time-frames he gives his customers since the start. Unfortunately that hasn't stopped this company, apparently to this day, from continuing this practice. I can't believe there are still people waiting for their GSO-3.5s... Good luck to those who put down money for the necker 2's.

Thanks for the update Guy. A little feedback goes a long way. My rough steel 4.1 did have a premium handle (red & black) so I don't mind waiting a little longer, I just don't like to feel like I'm in the dark.
I get that yall are busy and pestering you about order status is the last thing I want to do, but I hadn't heard anything in a month, so I was getting a lil antsy. You're partly to blame for my anxiety by creating such awesome knives that I want so bad :P

Grind on brotha and I will look forward to a tracking number sometime this weekend-ish

Other than getting direct replies from the person making your knife by hand, I recommend you sign up for their production update newsletter. http://us7.campaign-archive2.com/?u=eadc85765dd1915442d1d6274&id=bab84926bc

I'm not "waiting" for my 3.5. I ordered one, and it's on its way. I don't know many knife makers in the production market willing to share that level of transparency as Guy and crew does. I feel they've been going out of they're way to respond to the cancellation threats, threads about them losing they're appeal because a $270 production knife won't fetch $429 dollars on eBay, and this one thing keeps coming up. If you keep up with the newsletter you get a sense for how much steel those guys are constantly focused on at any given point. Survive! isn't Amazon, I run a business solving exactly this problem day to day with good people in Guy's situation. We've all encountered problems ordering something online at one point or another, yet how many can you speak to where the owner of the business and maker of said product will respond directly with apology for the delay. Unheard of and exactly why I support their endeavors. They will need good coalesced feedback of these process issues in order to better improve how they do business with us in the future. It's hard to capture that kind of data with this kind of noise from impatient keyboard armed customers. So if you really want to help, email them with this kind of feedback, have a bourbon, and relax.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that just because you have no problem with the over due time-lines of Survive!, that others shouldn't either. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but that doesn't automatically make it right. These are not custom knives, they are blades that were paid for in full and not delivered over many promised delivery dates. People have a right to be unhappy with this type of service, no matter how green the company.

I fully respect your right to be wrong as well.

I don't believe the idiocy that the customer is always right either. I wasn't promised a date I'd receive my 3.5 by. I feel I've been relatively updated and kept in the loop on my order. It's been over a month now, but I've been informed why that is, and just because I don't have a problem with it, doesn't mean I expect others to feel the same way. I believe in holding businesses accountable, but in this instance I see no infringement to their commitment. It's a free country, if you want to be unhappy from not living in an ideal world, you're welcome to that, but don't expect me to feel the same way either. Besides, lets see some more photos of those who have their 3.5's!!

and yes, I do feel like a kid on christmas eve waiting for over a month for christmas day just like the rest of us. It's really all Guy's fault for good design.

I don't think most people here would be able to wait for a custom knife if they had the money. 6 months?! Wait what?!

Most custom knives I have took between 6 and 12 months, all makers didn't charge me until the knives where ready for shipping.
All very good experiences
Good communication is a key factor.
I got a Koster bushcraft at the time he just started and it took more than a year with poor communication.
I'm very patient but this is going to get me a bit frustrated

Time is relative ;)

I agree with the frustration felt by many on their orders. I myself have been waiting as well. The, "two more weeks," or "within a week" response was given two months ago. I also understand the grace being given for a great group of guys producing a great product. However, there is an ethical side to this that is basic business 101, keep the customer happy and communicate honestly.

I am by no means wealthy. The $225 I spent was my choice, and I paid it knowing the shipment was uncertain, but the communication on their end makes me the most disappointed. I understand the following will defend the survive! knife group, I defend them in my own head, but it is getting harder to justify their business practices.

Has anyone asked for a refund, if it is even possible, and if so, how long did that take?

Just got my 4.1 2nd and Necker Blemish and after the wait it was worth it. The factory edge Guy puts on his knives is amazing. Yes I turned my phone book into confetti like his video he posted.

Can't wait to get it out in the woods this weekend for a 2 day hike. Thanks Survive!

Zy., That is great to read! It refilled my patience tank. Thanks for sharing.

Wait a minute. Didn't we all just order the Blade Forum 2014 knife in JUNE and we're being told the knives will start shipping in NOVEMBER? Did I miss something? That's uhhh.....5 months or so.

What is this "Blade Forum 2014 knife" of which you speak...?

I guess I'll answer this since I have the only GSO 7/7 for sale on the planet right now. It WILL fetch $429.00 on ebay. I should know, I BOUGHT IT on ebay for $410.01.

I am a kydex bender and knife modder in my spare time and was contemplating getting some custom sheaths out in colors and styles that Khia does not offer. I own and use several S!K blades as I write this. I wanted to see the 7/7 first hand (what an incredible, beautiful, flawlessly executed piece of steel it is), and after seeing it, and realizing that there is not a wide market for custom kydex for the series, I've decided to sell it and move on. Half of this is business for me. The other half is fun and part of my life as an outdoorsman I bought the 7 for business purposes and that has changed. Just trying to get my money back out of it since it never went anywere but out the box for the pics. If I sell for less, oh well. I won't give it away or trade it for a $200.00 knife either. I would rather keep it.

As far as my thread on losing their appeal. It's a legitimate question and interesting thread. You imply I started the thread since the 7/7 hasn't sold for $429 on ebay. If it was about the money, I shouldn't be buying $400+ knives anyway. I have 5 S!K's at the moment only because I just sold the GSO 10 for the same reason I'm selling the 7/7 and my Esee Junglas suits me better for heavy chopping and batoning. Truth. Only one of those 5 is for sale or trade and the other 4 are MY knives that I use. My 3.5 just came in the mail TODAY and it's going to be my fishing knife since it's CPM-20V. Apparently the issue is not about whether or not the 7/7 sells for $429 or not, or I wouldn't own $700-$900 worth of other S!K blades. By the way, the 7/7 is listed with a best offer option and if it gets to the right price, it will be gone at a loss to me.

Now, FOR THE RECORD, I'm a S!K fan. I did get impatient and whined. I own that. I also thought it over, read some posts from my fellow BF members, and apologized privately and publicly to Guy, Ellie, and Josh. With the addition of the 3.5 and seeing how absolutely flawless it is, I will surely buy more and I'm waiting now for the Necker II to come out.

Nuff said.

Here it is. Added the Yellow G10 since it will match up with my P-Line Adaro fishing pliers and ride in a custom piggyback sheath in Blaze orange kydex. I'll post pics of that with the knife later.

Feels much better in hand than I thought it would. Fit and finish is perfect. The G10 is beautifully executed. In pics, the handle looks a little disproportionate to the blade. For whatever reason, in real life, it's perfect. Big enough to be comfortable in my XL hands and yet doesn't overwhelm the blade. Guy has out done himself on the design and choices for steel and handles. What a really great blade for utility and camp use.

Halestorm I love your work! Not trying to call you out, just seeing the lack of patience with American small business (on said thread) makes me speak out. You're just trying to recap your costs like any of us here trying to make it doing what we love or supporting those who make great things around us to help each other get a fighting chance in the knife market for things that wont be available now or in the near future. I understand and respect that premium. I'm just saying, here's this guy passionate about about what we've always wanted trying to give us the tools we've always wanted for a price we can afford, I can't reasonably critique his approach of trying his best to do it right with what he's got to work with. Most are fine funding a kickstarter for things we're interested in and not seeing said developed product for some time, because of the nature of how the product was conceived, I feel the Survive! crew has take this feedback into effect into their design and development process. We all know we don;t all live in an ideal world and things go wrong, how can I fault the business for that. Could they do a lot of things better, sure, but couldn't we all in our own projects. Because of which we'll see market fluctuations based on availability. There is someone who wants that 7/7, hell, might even need it. I know they wont hesitate to pay for access to quality if the job is there for the tool. In time we will all be be better equipped, I'm just asking to our friends, let the crew make our stuff and not worry about trying make sure we're not just satisfied with the product, but happy too. You can't put a price on that sort of connection. You too Rasco, I feel ya! those premium handles are effin worth the wait, seriously.

Hale, killer photos, love the comparison shots!

I AM signed up for the Newsletter. The newsletter doesn't tell me when to expect my knife to ship out.
Most recent updates have to do with the 3.5.
And besides, those aren't the only two options for keeping your customers informed of delays.
Maybe for you older, wiser, more seasoned knife collectors, waiting a month or two for a knife is no big deal, but I'll be honest, this is the first time I've spent a few hundred dollars on a knife and not had it in my hand within 10 days.
Even my GSO-10 from BHQ was chopping California Oak within a week of me clicking "Confirm Order".

In a way, I'm actually glad they charged me when I placed the order, because now the money is gone and I don't have to worry about $200 coming out of my account at some random point in the future.

Are you making scales? I dig those translucent g10 scales.

GSO 3'5" is promoted as custom built knife, but the choice of handle scales is weird and no one color that available is suit me.
Are you going to receive other colors or not?
will 3'5" be as factory 2nd in nearby future?

Yes, the Ghost Jade G10 are my creation. Notice the fasteners are reversed. I'm right handed so it looks better to me with the slots showing on the outside of the knife when sheathed. We knife guys are a weird bunch.
Anyway, I wanted that particular GSO to be a little thinner since it's mostly used around camp and sees little hard use. My 5.1 is used in the field as my primary hunting knife for processing game, etc. The 5.1 is big enough that I could make do if I ever got stuck out overnight (happened a time or two in my lifetime and I carry a kit that would get me through the night with firesteel, cordage and light sources). I usually have that Junglas with me anyway but the 5.1 is my go to hunting/outdoors knife. Working on your sheath right now by the way.
