Survive! knives

I’m not understanding why you’re attacking Lozza. His post was not judgmental in any way. He’s stating that he’s patient…possibly a positive personality trait. Maybe because he underlined and bolded that word that it offend you due to your lack thereof. You thought it necessary to condemn his motives as you interpret them. Where did he at all express his superior moral integrity? He didn’t. Your invention.

I have enjoyed for the most part reading this thread but it loses its enjoyment after the same drum keeps being beat and beat and beat.

I suppose you will now deem it necessary to attack me for sticking up for Lozza. I don’t care. Oh, btw…I’m pretty patient also. Must be I look down my nose at everyone who doesn’t see things the way I do.

Still waiting for my 4.1 2nd.

I am not attacking anyone. I only called Lozza by name to direct a specific question at him, regarding his order date.
I'm trying to use clues and other people's experiences to piece together some kind of expectation. If it took Lozza 2 months from order to knife-in-hand, I can start to get an idea of what's "average" for the factory seconds going out.
As for the "I'm so patient" posts, I am seeing those from about half the people on this thread, so it's certainly not isolated to any one person.

It seems to be a mentality, and that's fine. If you guys are happy being patient, more power to you.
But surely you have to see my point, that the same things that are making you so patient for this awesome knife are making me impatient for it.
I want my 4.1 as badly as you guys do. This is where my comment about being a "better customer" came from.
I purchased a Survive! Knife just like you guys did, and I would like my knife in my hands, like some of you guys have.

Or at least an accurate estimate of when I might have it in my hands.

All I'm saying is that some of you guys act like the delay is no big deal, and if it isn't for you, great. But if it's a big deal to me, don't criticize me for that. I'm just excited / anxious to get my GSO 4.1 2nd.

Go back and read some of the posts from the "I'm so patient" people. If you don't think they come off as being on some kind of high horse, well, you're probably one of them :P

Patiently waiting on my 4.1 2nd. Ordered early June, in no hurry. Josh says maybe this week. Communication has been excellent.

I'm patiently waiting because I am vastly morally and intellectually superior, and very humble as well. Just kidding. :p

No, I patiently wait because I know that from everything I've read, the knife will be worth the wait. Plus it's not like it's my only knife and my life doesn't depend on it.

Let's all sit back and remember for a moment that this isn't Benchmade or Kershaw with massive factories in every corner of the world churning out millions of knives a day, this is a handful of people hand making every single one of these. And from what I gather, filling an order isn't nearly as simple as slapping some handles on a blade and sending it out. And so far, communication has been pretty decent, even though I've had to initiate. Custom makers don't get nearly as much flack for quoting and rarely delivering on lead times that stretch on for years. But because Survive! isn't Randall Knives, I guess they deserve more scrutiny? I don't get it.

And that's why I am patiently waiting.

You guys seem to be equating lack of patience with lack of appreciation for the quality involved here. Or something?
It kinda seems like you guys think that the longer you're willing to wait, the more it shows you are a true S!K fan. Or something? I'm not 100% sure.
That's just how it seems to me based on what I'm reading here.

I'm still very anxious to get mine. Guy said hopefully last weekend. I was hoping for an email, no luck. Not a big deal.
I woke up early on Friday May 23rd (the day the 2nds sale started) and placed my order, so yeah, it's a little bit frustrating to hear about people getting their factory seconds, because I know my order had to have been one of the first dozen 4.1 orders they got that day.

I could probably wait another month or two and be fine. All I'm saying is, that's going to establish a timeframe in my mind, and next time I go to buy a knife, I will remember the 2-3 month timeframe and act accordingly.
I haven't called or emailed S!K once. I'm not trying to bug them, or take them away from getting mine and everyone else's knives finished and out the door.

Rasco, I really wanted to empathize with you, right up until that last sentence. Look, nobody likes to wait, even those whom are being patient here are not enjoying the wait, they're just dealing with it. And for every patient person in this thread, there are 10 impatient ones that aren't being vocal about it. If the most you have to worry about right now is when your knife arrives, you're in a good season of your life, and should be grateful for it, because it won't always be that way.

If you need some perspective, go down to the Community Center section and read some threads about members requesting prayers for their wives with cancer, fathers with cancer, members who lost their lives, and members who recently lost a parent just to name a few. If you have more going on and this thread is your outlet, I'm sorry, and I hope things get better for you, I truly do my friend.

Ha, I will accept your "almost" empathy I guess :P
I'll be the first to admit my life is the greatest it's ever been right now. I'm truly blessed, that's for sure.
Just not sure what that has to do with how badly I want my 4.1 in my hands.

If all else is going great in my life, I'm not allowed to be anxious to get my new knife? I totally see what you're saying, I just think you guys might be making too big of a deal about my lack of patience.
I own a GSO-10 and I'm so pleased with it, that's a big part of what's driving my urge to get the 4.1 into my hands ASAP.

Please, also try to remember it's summer, and I have plans into which I'd love to incorporate the $200 I bought.
When I see these posts from SurvivorDan and Olybear and others, you think that makes it easy for me to wait patiently??

Nope, not easy, and they're not trying to make it easier or harder for you, they're just sharing their feelings about it all from their perspective, same as you. Like I said dude, it's not easy for anyone. I'm just trying to help you look at it differently, on the bright side so to speak, and lesson the frustration, which is a byproduct of impatience. Let's face it, although you're relatively jovial about it now, you haven't exactly been all "puppy dogs and ice cream" this whole time.

I've tried to keep it pretty polite and reasonable.
I never said anything disparaging about Survive! Knives, I never used to word "sucks" or anything like that.

Maybe I'm just not handling it so well because this is the first time I've ever ordered something online, had my card charged, and then not heard anything back from the seller for over a month.
I'm not saying I'm getting scammed or ripped-off here. Obviously that's not the case. I'm just saying I'm not accustomed to this feeling.
It makes me nervous to have $200 floating out there.
Clearly a lot of you guys have ordered custom / semi-custom knives before and have dealt with this kind of "relatively in-the-dark" waiting.
I have not. Forgive me.

If it was that big of a deal to me, I would have already called S!K and cancelled my order and asked for a refund.
Although I will say the idea that my order would get "put on the bottom of the stack" simply because I inquired about it on an internet forum.... is pretty disturbing... What is this? The IRS??!

Seems like the WORST way to deal with an impatient customer and forum user.

Lozza, if you get tired of high-ride, there is an alternative:

Yes thanks, I have already watched all three of those videos you posted. I'll look into something like that for the GSO 10.

If you need some perspective, go down to the Community Center section and read some threads about members requesting prayers for their wives with cancer, fathers with cancer, members who lost their lives, and members who recently lost a parent just to name a few.

My father died 14 years, I was 20. Two years ago my mother was battling secondary liver cancer. I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. A week after my first dose of chemo my mother past away. For me, material possessions are all but meaningless. I own the bare essentials now, my girlfriend is the same with what she went through with me. The GSOs I have are for the work I do, they are not a want. With living through these past few years I owe it to myself to get what I want. Rasco you said ↓

I'll be the first to admit my life is the greatest it's ever been right now. I'm truly blessed, that's for sure.

Then your wait maybe frustrating yet it is far from a big deal when put in perspective, and my story is not the worst one out there.

But surely you have to see my point, that the same things that are making you so patient for this awesome knife are making me impatient for it.

I can understand that, everyone feels that way. I guess for myself being on the other side of the world I have to be patient. I see some forum posts and people say how they have gone into their favorite knife shop, performance vehicle shop whatever and I can't. I'd love to take 3 months off, come to the USA and visit every person I have talked to when buying through their shop. With hunting supplies, Jeep parts and general outdoors stuff I purchase more out of the states than here in New Zealand, aside from groceries. It would be nice to go into Survive! one morning take them some smoko and say hi and thanks in person.

Yeah, not even close. Guy, Ellie and Josh haven't come on and called you a homo or an idiot loser or tracked down your home or place of business and threatened things yet like some other normally highly respected company owners have done on here. But it is still early LOL.

That sub forum was one hell of a debacle. And with Ellie trying to get a Survive! sub forum up I'm sure that is what they are going to do... Mind due no one working at S!K is named Robert....

It's a business run by a handful of people, everyone complaining or saying they bit off more than they could chew should just think about that, they had no idea that it would be this intense, and they are doing the best that they can, if you want a knife from them, shut the hell up and deal with it like the majority of people. P.s I would marry the gso5 if the Australian Government allowed me to do so ;)

How about something positive to start the day on this thread. Here's my "fishing rig" that I finished last night. Can't wait to get to the water and wet a line knowing I can clean the fish with my new 3.5. Keeps the 3.5 and the pliers right where I need them.

I know people are probably getting tired of the patient/impatient debate going on over here. Which is part of why I want a sub-forum where there can be a dedicated thread about how awful/awesome we are at what we do here while people can still easily share information about the knives themselves.

Here is a picture of our current open orders:

That sticky note marks the end of May 23rd. Now imagine what it looked like a week and a month ago (I can assure you that there was a completely different binder involved). We had no idea that opening day of the sale was going to be that popular or I would have changed the wait time. Oh hindsight, strikes again.

Please remember, we have never failed to deliver an order.

Rasco

Although I will say the idea that my order would get "put on the bottom of the stack" simply because I inquired about it on an internet forum.... is pretty disturbing... What is this? The IRS??!

Hilarious! The IRS has an advantage in that they are friends with the NSA, they know you! I have to use clues to try and figure out which forum name goes with which customer, and I don't have time for that. But seriously, that would be a really bad practice and if I ever find out someone with this company is doing that they will be fired on the spot (or at least after a conversation with Guy... so... not really "on the spot" at all). We do our best to go in order of when the orders were placed. Some GSO-10 orders went out earlier than other orders simply because the machines need to be setup differently for them, so Guy just did them all in one batch to save time.

I have to get back to cleaning up Necker IIs, but I do check in here regularly.

Yet you still feel the need to continually post about it. The internet is great in that a few pages back we can read you say the same thing. The people handling and producing your knife have responded to you specifically. When you order on a sale day, expect to be in a line. I'd say your mic time has been used with good result. Thanks for the perspective, we get it, and when you get your knife, post photos here we'd love to see them. In other news, talk of an SK-3?!

Cripes...enough with the back and forth "I'm tired of waiting" / "I'm fine with waiting" circular conversations. Let's move on people. I wanna hear about some adventures with these blades, and maybe some mods, upgrades, sharpening results, custom sheaths, etc. Isn't that what this thread is supposed to be about?

The wait times, communication, production delays....WE GET IT. WE UNDERSTAND.

Now...someone please tell me how they used their GSO___ to fend off a pack of wild ____ and save their______from death, and processed enough fire wood to keep the entire ____ warm through the night, and cook the best _____ they've ever tasted.

Rasco, you are not in the wrong for being impatient, or for that matter, expressing your disappointment in Survive!'s inability to ship when they said they would. I know they are working hard at fixing this, they have for a long time as this isn't a new problem. But it isn't fixed yet and as long as promised deadlines go by, they will have unhappy customers. More power to those that have disposable income to order and pay for knives up front and not care when they show up. I wasn't one of those people. You shouldn't feel bad about it either. I also find it just a tad ironic that Ellie is having the same trouble with BladeForums setting up a sub-forum as some of us had dealing with Survive!.

No, some of us actually use our tools to pay the rent. I wouldn't be in business very long if I couldn't wait for one blade in my kit to arrive. Sending $200 into the abyss without researching or coming here to ask others about wait time before a purchase screams disposable income problems to me. Just sayin.
