Survive! knives

By the way. I actually ordered the 3.5 with the premium scales in Ghost G10 to match the 4.1 with my scales on it. They are late coming in so I ordered this yellow set of G10 to go along with it to get my blade faster. The Jade Ghost will be here in a week or two. I may pimp yellow the scales a little for more grip with an Anso or Reptilian pattern since it will be used primarily around salt water and fishing.

B34NS - Halestorm I love your work! Not trying to call you out, just seeing the lack of patience with American small business (on said thread) makes me speak out. You're just trying to recap your costs like any of us here trying to make it doing what we love or supporting those who make great things around us to help each other get a fighting chance in the knife market for things that wont be available now or in the near future. I understand and respect that premium. I'm just saying, here's this guy passionate about about what we've always wanted trying to give us the tools we've always wanted for a price we can afford, I can't reasonably critique his approach of trying his best to do it right with what he's got to work with. Most are fine funding a kickstarter for things we're interested in and not seeing said developed product for some time, because of the nature of how the product was conceived, I feel the Survive! crew has take this feedback into effect into their design and development process. We all know we don;t all live in an ideal world and things go wrong, how can I fault the business for that. Could they do a lot of things better, sure, but couldn't we all in our own projects. Because of which we'll see market fluctuations based on availability. There is someone who wants that 7/7, hell, might even need it. I know they wont hesitate to pay for access to quality if the job is there for the tool. In time we will all be be better equipped, I'm just asking to our friends, let the crew make our stuff and not worry about trying make sure we're not just satisfied with the product, but happy too. You can't put a price on that sort of connection. You too Rasco, I feel ya! those premium handles are effin worth the wait, seriously.

Hale, killer photos, love the comparison shots!

Thank you for both compliments. In the pic is the 7/7, 5.1, 4.1, and 3.5. The necker is on the side of course.

I do agree with most of what was said. Good and bad. I was only impatient because I had a customer waiting on a 3.5 sheath. The 3.5 came today and I'm building right now.

The other side of that is that I was up at 4:00 a.m. At work by 6:00 a.m.. Worked til almost 5:00 p.m. at my career job, then came home and it's 11:17 p.m. here and I'm still in the shop because I made a committment to my customers.

I'm still on Guy's side. He's done more than most would under the circumstances.

Ellie,

Any idea on when the ordering for the 5.1s will open up? Was there a design change on this run of 5.1s? I thought I read about a small change on the handles a while back.. I might be thinking something else or maybe old news. Anyway, I have been watching the website every day for these 5.1s. I missed the last couple of runs.

Thanks

Survive! make a good product, but shouldn't bite off more than they can chew. I don't care what anyone says, its a big deal to consistently not deliver on time, period. I own my own small business and meeting customer expectations is at the top of my list, as it should be. If I feel myself drowning in my work I scale back to make it manageable. It appears that they are not in control of their ship as many extenuating circumstances are not allowing them to deliver their products in a timely manner. Meeting expectations is what makes or breaks small businesses.
I wish the Survive! team all the best in getting back control of their ship!

You're right. We shouldn't have reached out to dealers when we did, along with many other things we shouldn't have done. Those decisions were made in the past and can't be changed. But we are learning quickly and taking steps to get on track.

Just got my 4.1 2nd and Necker Blemish and after the wait it was worth it. The factory edge Guy puts on his knives is amazing. Yes I turned my phone book into confetti like his video he posted.

Can't wait to get it out in the woods this weekend for a 2 day hike. Thanks Survive!

Pictures?! Thank you, Guy is always trying to improve.

Hale Storm

Here it is. Added the Yellow G10 since it will match up with my P-Line Adaro fishing pliers and ride in a custom piggyback sheath in Blaze orange kydex. I'll post pics of that with the knife later.

Looks good Hale Storm. We will get those premium handles to you as soon as they arrive here.

I AM signed up for the Newsletter. The newsletter doesn't tell me when to expect my knife to ship out.
Most recent updates have to do with the 3.5.
And besides, those aren't the only two options for keeping your customers informed of delays.
Maybe for you older, wiser, more seasoned knife collectors, waiting a month or two for a knife is no big deal, but I'll be honest, this is the first time I've spent a few hundred dollars on a knife and not had it in my hand within 10 days.
Even my GSO-10 from BHQ was chopping California Oak within a week of me clicking "Confirm Order".

In a way, I'm actually glad they charged me when I placed the order, because now the money is gone and I don't have to worry about $200 coming out of my account at some random point in the future.

If you send an email to Workshop@SurviveKnives.com we can give you better information about your specific order. We answer all emails, usually within a day or two.
That is actually the reason why we charge upfront. We have a hard enough time keeping up with production (as you've all noticed), there is definitely no time to chase people down for large payments that get declined or even just to check to make sure the payment went through before shipping. It sucks that you have to pay and then wait, but it does make the wait a bit shorter.

GSO 3'5" is promoted as custom built knife, but the choice of handle scales is weird and no one color that available is suit me.
Are you going to receive other colors or not?
will 3'5" be as factory 2nd in nearby future?

We are low on GSO-3.5 handles right now but there are more being produced. As soon as they arrive we will get them listed on the website.

Soon. We started getting handles in for those last week. I am waiting for sheaths to arrive before listing the knives. Both to avoid the mess that occurred with the GSO-4.1 Factory 2nds and also because Guy still has a lot of knives to sharpen before we are ready for a new onslaught of orders. We have talked about limiting the number of orders we accept each day since the first day of the sale resulted in way more orders than we had ever expected. I will do my best to get that information out to everyone if that is how it goes down. Either way, we have a lot of GSO-5.1 blades here so you have a good chance of getting one.

These are the same as the run from last year. Guy has been working on a few minor updates but those blades haven't even started production yet so it will be a few months until they are available. We will be sure to let everyone know when they are in the works.

Thanks everyone, we always appreciate honesty and are looking forward to a better future. Hopefully we will be have the opportunity to prove ourselves to those of you who are losing confidence.

Guy is working on some slight modifications for the different models based on different user feedback. The last productions of the GSO-5, GSO-5.1, GSO-6, and GSO-7/7 and the next productions of the GSO-5.1 and GSO-5 all share the same handle. After that you will see some changes in the designs and the handles won't be interchangeable.

As for SK series, right now we definitely plan to run the SK-4 again and introduce the SK-5, a GSO-5.1 equivalent. Beyond that we are still deciding what models may be offered in the S-7. That requires a lot of big conversations that we haven't had time to have.

I'm looking forward for a SK-6 but if it isn't yet decided to offer that model I'll grab a SK-5 as soon as they come available. :D
Are they cutting the GSO-5.1 blanks in 3V, 20CV and S7 in one order ( = at the same time) ?

Ok I admit that my favorite fix knife is the BRKT Aurora . I had the GSO for about 8 months and never taken it with me just because I like the Aurora . This was my first trip with it just did some basic cutting and splitting wood . Worked great very sharp out of the box and that help me make some good feather sticks and I'm not good at that . Also the handle feel great on the hand no hot spots .

This is already a part of the answer ;)

I have found Josh and Ellie great to deal with. I have 3.5 on order and will buy off Survive! in the future, a great product and friendly service.

My GSO 10 turned up, 5 days after it was shipped and I live in New Zealand. I wouldn't call it a 2nd, the machine lines are barely visible through the FDE coating. If it was powder coated like other manufactures do it would be a first, it's only as the FDE is smoother/thinner than powder coating they can be seen.

Some have said they find it wrong to offer the 2nds to the market. If the GSO 10 wasn't offered I never would have brought it, not because of the cost of the blade, due to the cost to bring it into New Zealand. Once an item is over a certain cost tax is applied, along with import fees, MAF bio security fees and handling fees, all of which would push the GSO 10 well over a $500 knife. The 2nd been cheaper keeps that cost down avoiding all of those extra fees, keeping it not only affordable yet realistically priced, in a total sense.

After my GSO 5.1 turned up I had a sell up of other knifes, by the end of it I had moved 9 knifes, I don't collect knifes I buy them to use and after using the GSO 5.1 the others were not needed. I'll patiently wait for my 3.5 and order a Necker II when I can and some green canvas handles for the GSO 10, perhaps even a folder if Survive! Knives goes that way in the future.

Thanks Ellie, Josh and Guy.

I live in Australia and I know by the time the gso5's are ready and I buy one and it gets to me it will be a long time but I'm more than happy to wait, I have the sk4 and it is by far my favourite knife, I take it everywhere I go and it's gotten so bad that it sleeps in my bed with me, who knows what I will be doing once I have the gso5 ;)

I don't know who had the problem with offering seconds to the market, but how is that different than a customer selling a used knife whether on a forum or their own website? Ridiculous!

My GSO 5.1 goes everywhere with me. The way the sheath rides high on the waist keeps it hidden under a shirt or jacket. My GSO 10 is sitting in my Jeep out side :joyous:

It was mentioned in this thread somewhere, I tried to find it yet got over it after 15 pages. I have also seen the comment on two different forums, I'm not registered on those sites however.

Lozza, what date did you place your order for the GSO-10 factory seconds?

You say it arrived 5 days after it shipped, but how long did it take to ship after you placed the order??

I placed my order May 23rd and it still hasn't shipped out yet.
I'm not 100% sure I understand some of yall's desire to emphasize how patient you are. Good for you. Do you think that makes you a "better customer" or something? You think not giving a crap about how long it takes is a sign of virtue?
If you don't want to give a crap, that's fine, but don't act like it's the superior moral position, and those of us who don't choose to wait are "deeply flawed" knife buyers.

I placed the order around mid may. I don't have access to emails at the moment for the exact date.

Do you think that makes you a "better customer" or something?

Yes. Sure bad press is not what any company wants. I can speak first hand, if one of my clients is difficult then I will not concern myself with their behavior (unless unsafe) or what they cry about. I put my 'normal' customers first. Not saying that Survive! have put you on the back burners and me before you yet you started saying this in this thread quite a few pages back, they can't change that even if you did get your knife once you started to have a go at them.

You think not giving a crap about how long it takes is a sign of virtue?

Yea kinda. It's a sign of patience. I work in the outdoors/forests and very remote locations every....single....day. In the field a knife is my first tool a strap to my side and sometimes the only one I use. I have kicked the shit out of my GSO 5.1 and it hasn't faulted. If I was going to be a little bitch about wait times on the GSO 10 I would have stuck with one of the bigger blades I sold.

but don't act like it's the superior moral position, and those of us who don't choose to wait are "deeply flawed" knife buyers.

You are the only one that has said those words.

What are you going to do with your Survive! Knife? Is it a work horse as Guy has designed or a shelf queen? If its the later then I'm sure the waiting isn't really a big deal, the display cabinet will still be there. If you use it half as my as me then chill, once you have it I'm sure it will serve you well.

I consider myself lucky to get one of the 2nds, they went very fast and at this point general ordering is developing. Do you really think coming on a public forum and voicing your thoughts is going to speed up the process?

I’m not understanding why you’re attacking Lozza. His post was not judgmental in any way. He’s stating that he’s patient…possibly a positive personality trait. Maybe because he underlined and bolded that word that it offend you due to your lack thereof. You thought it necessary to condemn his motives as you interpret them. Where did he at all express his superior moral integrity? He didn’t. Your invention.

I have enjoyed for the most part reading this thread but it loses its enjoyment after the same drum keeps being beat and beat and beat.

I suppose you will now deem it necessary to attack me for sticking up for Lozza. I don’t care. Oh, btw…I’m pretty patient also. Must be I look down my nose at everyone who doesn’t see things the way I do.

Still waiting for my 4.1 2nd.

I'm jealous of anyone with a gso5, if I ever get married and get the pleasure to own one, I will be wearing it on my wedding day

Patiently waiting on my 4.1 2nd. Ordered early June, in no hurry. Josh says maybe this week. Communication has been excellent.

I'm patiently waiting because I am vastly morally and intellectually superior, and very humble as well. Just kidding. :p

No, I patiently wait because I know that from everything I've read, the knife will be worth the wait. Plus it's not like it's my only knife and my life doesn't depend on it.

Let's all sit back and remember for a moment that this isn't Benchmade or Kershaw with massive factories in every corner of the world churning out millions of knives a day, this is a handful of people hand making every single one of these. And from what I gather, filling an order isn't nearly as simple as slapping some handles on a blade and sending it out. And so far, communication has been pretty decent, even though I've had to initiate. Custom makers don't get nearly as much flack for quoting and rarely delivering on lead times that stretch on for years. But because Survive! isn't Randall Knives, I guess they deserve more scrutiny? I don't get it.

And that's why I am patiently waiting.
