Survive! knives

Guy, I see that you are participating in this thread (and presumably read the one which got locked), and wanted to come in to offer my apologies for the statements I made in your other thread. I am sincerely glad that I was wrong, and that you have clearly risen past the difficulties you seemed to be having. I stated that I wouldn't be a customer of yours, but seeing all of these new pictures of these folks' beautiful blades, and your clear communication as to your situation/Survive!'s situation is working to change my mind. I may have to place an order here in a few months (just in time for my birthday, no less).

I understand that my opinion is merely that, but I'm also man enough that when I state negative opinions and am shown to be clearly wrong, I own that. So, again, glad to see your business is indeed thriving, and I'll be placing an order here after my money situation equalizes after Tax Day*.

*Pro-tip: DINKs with a high level of household income, a small affordable house with low mortgage interest, and no children to squeeze kickbacks with = you're cutting a hefty check on April 15th. Damn the Man! Don't want to be in that position? Be broke, with five kids, and renting (or be housepoor). :thumbdn:

Thanks, that means a lot to me. I need to get back to grinding edges for knife orders but I wanted to take a sec to acknowledge your comment and I think it was a pretty stand up thing to write. We are getting caught up here and production is picking up drastically, now that we have been able to mostly put the mistakes I previously mentioned in another post behind us. Hopefully you do give us another chance when the time is right for you. We'll be here for you when you're ready and we've got plenty to neat stuff to share this year. ;)

I thought some of you might enjoy this video that I put together, of our tour at the Niagara Specialty Metals plant last July:

I saw a comment about GSO-5.1s... Those should be finishing up production grinding very soon. We still have some sheaths and handles left from the last production run, so I should be able to get some limited numbers of them available pretty quickly after grinding.

Wow! That looks like a pretty dangerous place to work and they are nonchalantly kicking around glowing steel cutoffs like they were sticks in the yard. Impressive machinery and operation. I don't know if I'd have the guts to stand in front of a ferociously hot slab of steel and have only a pair of tongs to stop it from giving me an all-over brand. They must know what they're doing. Thanks for sharing that Guy.

Did you say metallurgy ?? Make it, form it, HT it, use it ! For me that's like heaven !!

For the guys at NSM it's a well choreographed dance .Thanks for showing how it's done.

Guy, when you start producing the 5.1, 6 and 7/7 in 20cv, will it have a thicker grind angle? I'm asking because people like me will use that knife the same as the cpm 3v. I'm planning to baton and chop using that steel. With that in regard, how do foresee the steel performing? We all saw the crk green beret destruction test and that's one brittle s30v. Mind you it was heat treated for higher toughness.

We'll be keeping the edge thickness the same as the CPM-3V. In the small to medium sized knives I feel very comfortable doing that and I'm confident you can use the knives however you need to, wherever your situation takes you. I just won't ever make anything larger than the GSO-7/7 in that steel.

I can't speak to the other design you mentioned but I can say I've never really cared for S30V or S35VN all that much. Which destruction test were you referring to? I would love to watch and learn from it. I will be sure to do lots of batoning and chopping in a video but maybe I can also learn a thing or two from this other d-test video and kick up my abuse level a bit. ;)

Just for the heck of it, for you guys who really love to talk steel, here is the composition for the last shipment of CPM-20CV. This will save someone from having to go do a finite chemical analysis on their knife. ;)

i'll take your word for that. regarding the knife test, it seems that "Noss" knifetests has deleted his youtube videos but there's some past threads that i found.

i know those test weren't very knife like tests but damn that knife was brittle.

Wait, the knife failed from batoning the edge into wood?!? Please tell me that I'm not reading that correctly? That was done using a hammer, beating the knife into a 2"x6"? Also curious what gauge of thin sheet metal he was using? That gave me a pretty good test idea. lol Wish I could see the video. I'm a visual person.

i think if you ask Kiah he'll be able to answer your questions more accurately. last time i saw the video was sometime last year and the frame that stuck in my mind was when it was hit by a sledge hammer and broke like glass shards.

HERE IS ANOTHER POST FROM SURVIVES FACEBOOK

The SURVIVE! Necker II blades are complete! Coming down the home stretch on these

A side by side comparison of the Necker and Necker II.

A shot of the SURVIVE! Necker II blade blank in hand, after putting a razor sharp edge on it. Even without the handles, this thing is a comfortable little chore cutter.

I really like the design of the GSO 10. i'm thinking a smaller design of that would be awesome. like the 7/7?

A while back, you mentioned an upcoming "chopper" - GSO 12 in S7 - when can we expect more word on that? (sorry if I missed an update)
