Survive! Sheaths and standard attachments that fit them

QUOTE]

For the price these knives are selling with a mediocre thin kydex that is not properly finished or a leather sheath were stitches send to frail, I can't justify purchasing one.

I'd be happy to tell our kydex guy how they are unfinished if you can shed some light there. They are .080 for the main portion of the material and .093 on the drop loop. I didn't see the specs on the survive site but that seems to be standard for most kydex sheaths, we're not using the .060 stuff that is to thin imo. I don't think we've gotten a single sheath back for a stitch failure but if we did the customer would get a new one. Base price is $217.95 on in stock gen 2s. From what I can see a 4.7 is $209 and a 5.1 is $229, with the Alpha blade being between those two I think the price is right in line. So I am not sure what you're comparing, perhaps some of the wood handled versions they do get expensive.

I love it that there are more American made options for good quality mid tech knives than there was just a few years ago. Think what you may of BRK, I think that they really do a good job of manufacturing knives. They are the gateway drug to many who want to explore fixed blade options for EDC, and they get many thinking about what else is out there regarding fixed blade options. I have no experience with the Ambush line or accesories. But I know that Guy pays the rent for this house that we are all guests in. Constructive criticism makes products better. I, for one, would like to see the constructive criticism of the S!K line discussed here compared to any other knife out there. But I would hope that other manufacturers would use their own house to solve their own customer service issues. Let us not forget who's house we are all guests in.

McVeyMac is right.

I'd love to see that kiah. Keep us up to date when it comes around.

OK, sliding past the other stuff a bit, I played around Today for a few minutes and am gonna steal Chiral's idea a little. The new 5.1 clips are slotted (and much more uniform) and will actually fit every S!K sheath I've done from the 3.5 to the 7/7 (and any other pancake sheath in that range) with overhang on the smaller stuff. If anyone's interested, I may make a modified version of this clip with a stunted "L" instead of the thick hook. Pop 'em upside down on the eyelets below the top slots and they should take any pouch with horizontal 1" webbing. Not the idea I'm working on next week, but it popped into my head, so figured I'd mention it.

Also on the topic of the thread, I've got low-ride loops and danglers planned at some point.

/self-promotion

I'm with you Mac

As the OP, I would respectfully ask that we circle this back to the Survive! line. I think the other stuff has been asked and answered, or can be done with PMs or emails beyond this point. Thank you in advance gentlemen.

Kiah, thanks for getting us back on point. I think that clip design is going to solve a bunch of mounting issues. Also, the option of drop loops, and especially (for me) danglers sounds great. Thanks for keeping us up to date sir!

Sweet! I hadn't thought to use the clip. And I wanna see what you got in mind for a low rider clip when it comes to light. Thanks kiah.

I really hadn't either until Chiral used 'em that way. I know the "hooks" on some are pretty thick though.

I intend to make a loop for my EDC-4 spear point next week, so I'll post a pic. Moving towards leather (and maybe coated webbing) in that area, so there may be a bit of a learning curve to get through.

Kiah, I don't think I ever offered, but would you like me to send you one of my extension kits? Just something to help inspiration if need be. To be frank, the idea of the rotation holes was inspired by a post you made in Noss' forum some years back, and if you had made extensions for Guy's knives in the first, i never would have come up with these :D Just PM me your address if interested, I'll send just what i sent Silver in the testing thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1317811-Chiral-s-New-UKE!

For everybody else, the new UKE's are ready to go, so if you can't wait to see what Kiah comes up with, drop me a line and I'll get you squared away :)

Oooh, would love to try it out. Will shoot you a PM.

Your setup is far more versatile than what I have in mind. Just going simple as a way to move more into soft loops. Got the layout drawn out in Sharpie on a piece of a Priority shipping box like a true professional, just need to actualize it. I love Kydex as a sheath material, but it's pretty known that I really just don't like it as a loop.

Knifetests ... that's been a while. Spent most of the time on there banning spambots.

My wife carries her 4.1 with the new UKE. I use the old style on my 5.1. There very comfortable and easily adaptive to many different styles.

I slapped a UKE on one of my bigger blades and have a second waiting in reserve. I don't see it coming off anytime soon. Nice piece of equipment.

So I went ahead and fiddled around with the idea I wanted to get to next week. Scrapping it for the time being. Works fine, but doesn't offer any real advantages over Gen II or III Molle-Loks for the purpose and would cost as much just in materials. Will try out some other ideas after I get some projects out of the way, but putting this one on the back burner for now.

Maybe that's all people need. If they don't want to use paracord to lace the pouches on through the MOLLE webbing that lots of them come with, then all they need is a couple of nylon straps that mount to the sheath and through which a MOLLE-lock can be slipped...

Yeah, that idea's rolled around as well. I've got a buttload of IWB webbing headed my way for some projects, so I'll probably fiddle with it.

Just put holes in the webbing (or leather or Kydex strips) at the eyelet spacing and run screws through it. For foldovers, just go all the way around. Sheath specific of course, but one could probably double up and make it not be with little effort.

Needlessly complicated ideal: Install snaps at the eyelet spacing. Then just screw the studs into the eyelets or slots. Could pull the whole rig off or reattach quickly. Wouldn't even get in the way of clips or any attachments, just use longer screws. Pull-the-dot snaps would be the obvious choice so you don't lose the pouch to a sneaky sapling. I've got some PTD snaps laying around, so I can test it out when I get time, but it is a bit over-complex.

ETA: Eh, I've got a few minutes to kill. Let's see how it works.

Don't have any MOLLE-Loks on hand, but works just fine with the built in strap on a Condor pouch and whatever these little snap loops are on my Maxped Monsoon. I'll post pics this weekend. Easy enough to replicate if you don't mind setting a few snaps. Super easy if you don't bother with them.

Wow. May be 'overcomplicated', but sounds sweet! I'd love to see those pics.

ETA: Do you set snaps the same as the eylets, i.e. with a press i'm guessing?

Probably be Tomorrow.

Had been using a hand setter for the rare occasion I needed a snap for personal use, but actually just got some dies for my eyelet press in Yesterday as they're gonna be needed for future stuff. Smooshing the posts pretty good at the moment, but I think it's due to them being too long for the thin leather I've got handy. Need to experiment and try some different setups out.

I don't have anything to contribute, but I think it is great that we have truly legitimate craftsmen present and active in the forum such as The Kiah, Halestorm and Chiral :thumbup:

Thanks to TT's suggestion for how to mount the pouch, finally got it sorta dialed in. Now gotta load her up!

Festive backdrop once again provided by the wife!
