Survivors: other knives you like

That is this years find, a Skrama. I've done a write up in Reviews and Testing section. I've been giving it some airtime as I rate it. Its very clever, great steel, and a bargain; double bargain with exchange rates at present; post to the USA $9! I like to call it a thinking man's golock. As said, not many knives get me excited but when I see something interesting, very novel, and practical, I jump. Thats why I bought a CS Master Tanto in 1988!!

Anyhow, read my review.

Can I add just add: what really superb knives some people have posted on this thread. Makes my efforts look very old hat! Probably because I am!! I have a GSO or two, so its not all bad. (I do fancy a GSO 7/7 though possibly a bit more pointy; its to replace the retired Project; or a GSO style Skrama, well a pointy one.)

"You deserve another GSO", please tell my wife that... and then duck...
Haha!!!!!

Thanks for the great explanation on all your unique blades. You clearly know, appreciate and use them!

I'm really liking this Yuma.
The guys behind this company seem like good dudes. Now if you had a GSO in that pic I'd immediately vote for it to be in the official (and imaginary) SURVIVE! 14 month calendar :D
Seriously awesome pic. Where is that?

Ha, i really went back and forth on what knife to take. It's the east fork of the black river here in AZ. Lots of beautiful spots on this hike.

Just gorgeous.

I've seen a few pics of their M16 (I think). It's just a cleaver/chopper like the top portion of the M18. It looks interesting!

GREENJACKET, Thanks, need to look up your review but the google results & your pic "got me".

I dunno that I like it yet, but I just got an Ambush Tundra in. The shredded paper packaging and slotted bolts look a little familiar. The design is definitely Bark River though, basically seems like an Aurora handle and Canadian Special blade.

It'll cut stuff, seems like. The handle could be a little taller, maybe I just didn't eat my Wheaties today but my hand seemed to be working harder than it needed to.

Lol. They're on closeout so I'm guessing the line is done, helped my conscience out.

We forgive you for your lapse of judgement and misgivings on that move. You seem to have plenty of nephews and nieces so on of those lucky kids will eventually get your hand me downs ;)

Grog - how do you like your Ambush knives? I heard they had some production issues but they should be good knives.

That ambush is based on a hybrid of a Bark River Canadian Special blade and an Aurora handle. It was a design created by Bark River Subforums (from knife forums). It was caulled the Canora. Should actually be a good design if they didnt use too thick of a steel. 5/32 or .156 inches would be ideal. But I probably wouldnt buy one. Just cuz.

Psybull,

Is that the vitange handle one? I can't tell by your pic, but if it is, you better not use it. You better either sell it to me, or put it away for historical reference!

Why yes it is and has the Ti. fasteners to.
Just picked it up on a sale/trade and it has not arrived yet, but after reading about it I figured I had better jump on one if I had the chance.

Clearly it is working for Grog and since I never handled it I can't speak on its quality. The "just cuz" part is more where my own preference comes in.

To each his own!

The fit and finish was pretty good, grinds look symmetrical, and all that. The slotted handle bolts aren't lined up, which doesn't bother me one bit but if you're going to try and make your knife look like a Survive! knife then go all the way right?

The sheath appears to be good quality Kydex but it's way too tight, I'm going to email KSF and see about getting either a replacement or a leather one.

It has a distinct edge bevel rather than BTKT's typical zero grind which I'm glad about. It'll slice printer paper but won't push cut it or shave. Not a great edge but not terrible either. I didn't caliper it but it's specced at .156". It cuts well enough but the handle is going to take some adjustment. It's nice and fat but not very tall, it felt like I had to squeeze a bit more than I'd prefer. The micarta's nice and grippy.

Considering how quickly they're going to closeout status I assume the line is not doing well. I feel that I'm supporting a dealer rather than a manufacturer when buying something on closeout. If it was a straight clone I wouldn't have bought it anyways. However it is a distinctly Bark River design and I don't think packing material and handle bolts are too big of a deal. Otherwise whoever first started using brass pins must be awful mad.

I hope you enjoy it! I know you collect the prototypes, so I'm not sure in the grand scheme of things the micarta is important to be honest with you, it's just a random old piece from sources unknown, but Nathan is only doing the D3V now, which makes that one in 3V out of production, with the unique scales, and the A2 ones are also even more old school so that is cool as well if you are into building a collection.

I know where the Butterscotch one is as well, so cool to know where that one landed. I think you are the 5th owner now depending where you got it from! These things sure travel!

Edit: Psybull can you email me please, I want to ask you a question.
