Svord Peasant MINI

Does anyone have a recommendation as to the handle scales? How are the plastic handles? Do the wood handles need to be soaked in oil to keep them from expanding in the summer?

Wow, that was fast. I ordered one as soon as I saw them pop up at knifecenter on the 5th, and it got here today. My initial reaction is pretty positive. I got a yellow handle model, to match my yellow full size Peasant. It's near identical, only smaller. The handle has a maximum width of a little less than 5/8", just a little thinner than the full size yellow Peasant. However, overall girth and length makes the Mini much easier to pocket. About 5 1/2" closed, tang included, about an inch shorter than the full sized one. Blade thickness is about .065", compared to about .087" of the full size.

On mine, the blade does make contact with the end screw when fully closed. It isn't as bad as it might seem, as the brass is softer than steel. However, I found after taking the knife apart, the handle has a small divot near the end screw which will accommodate a diy plastic rod stop pin. So I put one in. Now the edge rests on the plastic rod rather than the brass screw. The grind looked quick and dirty, as with the full sized Peasant. However, it did have a usable edge. A few swipes on a ceramic rod got it plenty sharp.

The Mini's size makes a huge difference to me. This is a Peasant I will actually carry. I'll see how it does in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the report, Shecky. To deal with the blade contacting the screw, I put in a larger brass pin in my full-sized Peasant. I wish they would just get this right. It's frustrating because they could have moved the pin a fraction of an inch during the design process to avoid this.

Yes, you'd think this would have been dealt with before they made the molds, or the dies for the blade.

The flaw doesn't really keep me from carrying and finding use of the knife, but then again, my criteria for what constitutes a good edc may vary from what interests a lot of knife nuts. Is there any doubt that if a Chinese company marketed a knife as flawed as the Peasant, a good number of BF members would never stop disparaging that Made-in-China half-assed quality. Yet a European traditional made with a rustic flair escapes much of that criticism.

Don't go down that avenue. You won't like it.

Not discussing country of origin works both ways.

Edited to add: The folks on this forum don't have the agenda of which you accused them. So let's not have any of your agenda, either.

Mine came in today. Cut off a little piece of leather and wedged it in between the handle scales towards the pommel to prevent it from being clamped together by my hand. It's really nice. It's rough, unpolished, and looks a bit dirty, but for some reason I get excited just having it around. It's very strange. Can't figure out why.

Laid my hands on one yesterday. The full size blade is a lot thicker. The hole in the tang on the mini also is covered by the handles eliminating the ability to use it as a lanyard hole

Recieved mine yesterday but had a demo firing at work last night...forgot to bring it to work this morning to fondle.

What first impression I had of it were great! Its a smashing down scale version of the original and I expect it to be very pocket friendly in comparison.

More to follow!

Yeah but the handles could use a spacer. They want to collapse while using. Overall kinda chincy but for the money not bad. Still rather have a mora

If you put a spacer or washer, make sure it is of a soft material or does not contact the blade in the closed position. Also, it has to be thinner than the bland, or else the handle scales will not grip the blade in the closed position.

It's the nature of the beast. It does not bother me that the scales squeeze together 1/16th of an inch when the blade is deployed.

I put a Aluminium spacer at the back.
