T.R.E. Three Rapid Exchange LionSTEEL

For those who now have their knives, does the width between the handles offer any hope of supporting the use of standoff as opposed to the backspacer currently being used? (Gianni, here is s great opportunity to supply accessories for this knife, like Hinderer does for the XM-18 knives!! You could make a set of matching Ti anodized standoffs, thumb tab, flipper and pocket clip.)

Yes -- standoffs, please! The backspacer, combined with lack of open pillar construction, are two of my few nits about this terrific folder. Standoffs would take care of that.

What's your other nitpick? Lack of jimping on the back of the blade's spine?

Very good guess, Ram, and absolutely correct.

Add the jimping and standoffs and I'm outa nits!

There are backspacers that bother me more but LionSteel has designed the TRE to be flow through which is nice. Jimping on the blade spine of the G-10 models would definitely help. On the TI & CF models you can install the nice contoured thumb disc for a measure of thumb support.

The thumb disc is top drawer -- one of the best I've used. It should come installed, like the flipper.

Gianni,

Your website has the weight of the G-10 model at 2.26 ounces and the titanium one at 2.19 ounces. However, when I weighed mine the G-10 was 2.37 ounces and the titanium 2.87 ounces.

When do you expect U.S. dealers like BladeHQ and KnifeCenter to have TRE in stock?

Will you have gray and jade (transparent) G-10 colors?

Will you have an intermediate model with full titanium but flipper only?

Will you have TRE titanium with Chad Nichols Stainless Steel Damascus blades (Raindrop, Fate and Lizard)?

Again, congratulations on the deserved TRE win!

Thanks.

I am going to send to dealers this week and next week.
The G10 available now are only the ones that you can find in the LionSteel webpage.
No other versions in this moment more then the ones available in the web page.
I have made some samples of TRE in Damascus, all of them were with Damasteel Damascus. This new version will be available not before Christmas time.

One problem: can't really carry the knife clipped to a jeans pocket. There's not enough space between the clip and side slab. [sigh]

That will depent on the jeans you're wearing. My pocket clip was a bit tight, so i bended it a little it will go on and of jeans easier.

Having had my TRE flippers for about two weeks now I still like everything about it with some minor quibbles. A little jimping on the spine would have been nice but not as necessary on a gentleman's folder. The flipper action could definitely be crisper. The flipper tab being so small you can't push to activate and must give it a full light switch. Not a big deal at all.

Is the only difference between the g10 version and the carbon fiber version the handle scales? I can't justify an extra 100 for switching from g10 to carbon fiber

On the carbon fiber and Ti version you can also switch from flipper to Thumbstud or both. These versions also incorporate a swedge on the spine of the blade.

Personally I dislike the swedge, so much so that I opted for the g10 version. I also prefer the flipper. Just ordered mine and looking forward to receiving it. I've been after a 3inch lightweight flipper for some time now.

The G-10 model is flipper-only with a G-10 backspacer. The CF & TI models have titanium backspacers and of course you can remove the flipper tab and thumb disc. For many it doesn't justify the $95 price difference.

I wish the G10 had a thumb disc -- to me, that is one of the TRE's best assets.

In any case, the thumb disc should come attached, like the flipper.

I guess I'll have to wait to find one on the secondary market so i can afford one. I could live without the carbon fiber (even though I'm obsessed with it and prefer it 10/10 times over g10), but I feel like the whole point of this knife is the customization you can do with it; I need that optional thumbdisk, I'm all about having options when using my knives

Has anyone cut with it? This blade is around 5/32" thick, seems a bit thick for a sub 3" knife.
