Tacticals Made by Us for Special OPS Forces

Dan - could someone design the logo and have it in a format that we can make stincles from it?

you all would have to decide on what you want
the easiest way would be is have roger etch it in where it is the shipping point where they all will end up.
then only one logo can be used. I'm not sure if
Roger wants more to do at this point,, though the etching doesn't take much time ..
roger? do you have an etcher? I have an extra one you can use.. if need to

Even a simple etch with no blackening would be cool. Sort of hidden yet there for us to remember....

I hope all will go back and read post number 51. That explains questions about special markings on the knife.

The guys have a couple questions. They are wanting advise from you on type of knife best suitable for your team's use (blade length and such, etc.)? They also want advise on restrictions on identifying markings (for instance what if someone wanted to put something like Special OPS or Special Forces on the knife he makes for your team; that kind of stuff)? Some of the makers would like the team member that receives his hand made knife email him if possible. I think they are very proud of you guys and would feel honored just to hear from you. I don't know how many you have in your team but I am hoping we can get enough makers to make a knife for each member. We'll have to see. Please advise on the above questions (name redacted).

On size... monster blades look good on screen but the
truth is a good 6-7" blade will do the job just nicely
and will be easier to carry on the job day in day out.
That said, some of the guys do prefer a larger blade
so if anyone is making a longer one then I wouldn't
tell them it won't be used..trust me it will.

Sheaths... Either leather or kydex is good..again some
like one some like the other..

Markings...We all agree 100% on this one unless the
maker really wants to put it on the blade, none is
better.

All our team guys try to live the
"Quite Professional" motto

and would prefer no "Spec Ops" or
"Special Forces" markings etc.

Actually
most of the guys want the makers name on the knives so that anyone
who sees it will know where it came from.

Bottom line is this Roger, my guys are happy to get
whatever kind of knife is made...anything will be
appreciated here, folders, fixed blades, Ka-Bar style,
bowies, fighters, workers, etc.

The best kind of knife for us is one that can do it
all... (redacted) all day in the rain (redacted)
or (redacted), cut rope, dig holes, sit all
night in a sand filled sheath and still be razor sharp
when the bad guys come callin.

I didn't mean to get something bad started here :footinmou

I just thought we could personaly say something like the old battle cry when we thought about our knives going into battle.I realize the reason for no markings to identify the soldiers in any way or to cause them harm for the markings..Plase lets all just keep the knives with maker marks only as they wished,we can always say our little slogans our selves when we think of them using our blades in battle

Okay guys-

I have a contact at one of the magazines that knows what were doing now.
I need a list of names and what you made or donated for the troops.
I will try to sum it all up in one email to the magazine. If you dont want to be mentioned dont send me an email. Not promasing anything but we may have a shot at an article.
So - in 7 days I will collect all the emails I get and send them to the magazine.
He agrees that it could make a fine story.

Email me your full name and what you made or donated. Keep it short. If you have pictures send those as well.

Also for those that dont know I am replacing the first one I made with 2 for this project. Hope that makes up for the time it takes to get them made guys.
I'll hurry as time permits between jobs and my day job.

Dang, I thought it was a good Idea Bruce sayings have gone to war many times.
so much for the collector aspect of it.
Brian
I had thought this would stretch out a bit giving me time to get one or two in, as time permits
when is the info going in to the magazine?
it's not a problem but one bullet two kills don't hurt either :)

Don't feel pregnant Dan. I don't expect to be able to start mine until first of April. Full time doesn't allow us much free time does it ;).

Brian I will be emailing you my name and other info. I don't have a family here. Its just me and I sleep with a firearm. Not all us might want to have their identities published in association with this effort. I will MOST certainly understand.

Wonderful. Just Wonderful:

I don't have this knife yet. Bruce just emailed the pix this evening. I will let Bruce step in and tell about materials used. I can say it is 320 layer 1084 / 15N20 damascus.

Thanks for posting this Roger,I hope they like it..
The blade is just a little under 6 inches long and 3/16 thick at the guard. The guard is wrought iron that came off a old wooden wagon wheel hub ring, the handle is a solid piece of Ebony with a single stainless pin.

Now to get the three sheaths done so I can get them all shipped out to Roger.

Bruce

Dan, Just email me what you plan do make. Your word is good my friend.
As far as schedule I dont know if they will actually do a story. It depends on what we can muster up. What I mean by that is that so far I have only received 1 email with the makers name and type of knife he made.
We need more names but if no one wants to be named thats okay too.

Okay - if you dont want to be named at least email me what type of knife and what steel was used. I will put together a list that is those who dont want to be named and those who dont care.

Roger - can you try to get more feedback from the receivers? If any maker has received emails from soldiers can you forward me the email with there permition?

Anything helps.

I understand if some dont want to perticipate but it will be a good thing IMHO.

you got that right Roger. :(

Brian I have no problem with my name out there..
I'll think a little harder on what I want to make..I've been colecting info
from this thread to do something just right..

Be sure and email me what tinkering in that noggin' of yours Dan. ;)

Trying to catch up on todays things to email and post and remembered that I should state that today I shipped out three blades to our SF ALPHA Afganistan today. I sent them Priority insured. Two made by knife makers and one Buck from the Neatherlands.

EDIT: that makes ten shipped so far. Seven received and three on the way.

This publication thing, if it happens, is great as far as I'm concerned. It might just spur some other great makers that are not already making and donating to the war effort. .....and that is really what it is for - the war effort. But remember your pubilshed identity can mark you. For me; I live alone. I don't give it that much thought. In my mind there is nothing cowardess about concealing yourself in time of all out war. The more the better but I hold nothing against him that decides to remain in the shadows and in fact it can often be the advantage. Give it some adult thought and this will be my last word here about this.

Roger I agree,,but
I for one, served and am proud of it. to those that have a problem with that, can take it up with me. if they want to know where to stuff it direct from me, so be it, I'm not hard to find..that's the way I feel about it.

Brian it's still tinkering in here somewhere.. :)

After thinking about it and reading Dan's and Roger's post, I geuess I am in. Brian, email sent.

My misgivings weren't about retaliation-I'm old, live alone, have a good dog and am armed and onery. I just didn't want to give the impression that I had donated to get publicity. There have been makers on other forums here that have blown their own horn pretty loudly over this and I thought it cheapened the act.
