Unfortunately, neither of these are mine, but the Hamilton GG-W-113 and the Benrus Type II are were two common military watches.
In point of fact, however, most men's wristwatches can be considered "Tacticool." Before WWI, for the most part, only women wore wristwatches-- men used pocketwatches. However, a pocket watch wasn't of much use laying on your belly in a trench, so men adopted the wristwatch.
Other famous mil-watches are:
Rolex Sub/ Sea-Dweller, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, Panerai Submersible (I think-- I'm not a PAM expert), Breitling Superocean, Zodiac Sea-Wolf-- these are all dive watches. Famous flight watches include the German B-Uhr, the Omega Speedmaster Professional (and nowadays, the X-33) and many Breitlings.
From what I've read, most soldiers have a Timex or Casio digital or a Lumniox/ Traser/ Seiko.

Lotsa cool watches! Got me thinkin'. For now though it's my Marathon w/bracelet. Maybe snag a Zulu strap to give it a little more "tacticoolness".

My Marathon JSAR on a Sinn U1 strap, best combination ever.

I also have a Frogman MIRB:

Above is not my own picture.

I have a Luminox Ultimate Navy Seal and it is great. But my heart lies with the Marathon JSAR just wish I had the change right now for one.

During WWII it was the Panerai Radiomir though the Luminor was used later. I don't believe the PAM Sub was ever issued.
Thanks for the correction. :thumbup Like I said, I don't know that much about PAMs

I've been researching the Citizen I posted earlier. Amazon lists it as having a 21mm band width but everyone else is listing the lug size as 20mm. I was thinking about putting a Maratac silicone band on it. Would I just get the 20mm band? Here's what I was thinking of getting for it. http://countycomm.com/silicone.htm

Also, anything else with a similar style? Both watch and band.

You can always carefully trim the band.

I put an oversized Maratac silicon band on my Timex chronograph. I bought it with the little razor and used that to trim the corners to fit the case. You also have to cut the band down to fit the latch for length - go slow and try again if it's too big.

I've found the expansion links tend to rub my wrist in warm weather, but it was still a lot better that the factory metal bracelet in smoothness. Wearing it for a year press braking metals scarred it up - but all I had to do was flip the silicone over and it was new again.

On Tacticool watches, that's exactly what they are. Most serious soldiers do not wear any reflective glass on the outside of their uniform, and certainly no brightly glowing numbers or marks. The watch goes on an upper pocket button hole and is concealed in the interior. Some would use the top collar hole, others wore pocket watches stashed on leashes. It is right, nothing in the pants pockets or front is accessible when on the ground - but few need a watch in that circumstance.

Plain jane and simple was the rule of the day, expect cracked crystals, damaged pins, lost watches, and field repairs to hold one on. Rotating bezels and spring pins are the two things that seem to fail first.

Bands are a whole nuther subject. I won't use any woven band now, they always go septic after 6 weeks of heavy field use. I've treated them with alcohol, peroxide, etc. and the ones I've given up on still stink years later.

Tacticool is for the office, tactical you can't see at all. Two completely different things. It's why a lot of younger troops now just carry a cell phone and no watch at all.

Man, I can't believe there is not more drooling in this thread over these. They have FLASHLIGHTS built into them! I want one bad.

Eh....as a watch guy they don't do anything for me. If I want a flashlight I'll buy a flashlight. :) They're also quartz and that's a huge negative for me.
