Take the Gold or Open The Box! - WINNER!

Jack, this is a wonderful giveaway, my favorite so far I think, I would be honored to enter.

A little about myself: I am relatively young (33 yrs), married to the most beautiful woman in the world for 13 of those years, and have two of the greatest children a man could hope for. My son, Merrick, is 10 years old and my daughter, Honor, is 8. We, as a family, are very fond of the outdoors and we usually do not need much excuse to venture out and enjoy some of the finer things this world has to offer. I am a bit of a hobbyist and I tend to get involved in a lot of things that interest me. Some of my interests are knives(of course), bushcraft, mushroom hunting, living history, archery, leather working, etc. The list can go on.... I am currently employed as a software developer but have spent time in the telecom industry and spent some time in law enforcement as a volunteer reserve officer. When relaxing, nothing is better than a dram of my favorite Scotch (Laphroaig) or favorite Irish (Connemara), accompanied by a good pipe, sitting at a campfire.

A few pics to share....

Hopefully I didn't get too carried away there. Regardless, it should give a decent snapshot into what I enjoy and find important. Thanks for such a tremendous giveaway, Jack!

A very cool, mysterious giveaway, so I'll play please.

Me? I'll be reaching the mid-century mark this year. I have a wife of almost 30 years, and a son who will be graduating from college this year. I have never smoked. I do like the occasional cocktail or a cold Yuengling lager. My primary hobby is knife modding, of course, but I dabble in woodworking and tinkering in general. In the warmer months, I love to hit the flea markets and buy junk(my wife's words). I used to fish avidly, but my son is not really interested, and my dad is too frail to go out anymore.

I'm gladly in Jack. I'm 46, married, with a 2 year old little boy(if you turn your device sideways you can see him:D). I drink rarely , use an ecig, very occasionally smoke, used to smoke cigarettes and a pipe. I stay at home and take care of our son, as I'm on disability for chronic , severe nerve pain in my back and legs. I used to be a professional carpenter and mill hand, as well as bartender. I've loved knives since I was a wee tot. Oh and I really enjoy your "care" packages, the threads about them I mean. Always neat things in there , quite aside from the knives. Should I win, I will be in a quandary as to which to pick, as either would be fascinating and well, cool. Oh my other main hobby is reading.
Thanks, Neal

Not an entry, but I thought I'd take the time to contribute to the 'getting to know you' aspect of this thread, which I greatly appreciate.

I'm a 40-something chemist, but that doesn't define me. I'm the father of 4 boys, and the husband of one wife (of 20 years!). That defines me.

I've been a life-long knife enthusiast, and my other hobbies include custom playing cards, micro-brews, the occasional cigar, and a good Scotch. I could easily see myself falling into the flashlight, gun and watch collecting, but am limited by available funds. Playing cards are cheap, and knives are just plain fun, so that keeps me busy enough.

Lately I've really enjoyed participating with my boys in Boy Scouting, as a leader and chaperone. I get to do the things I missed out on as a kid.

I also take a strong interest in the spiritual development of my sons, and that takes up the rest of my time.

Good luck to everyone! And I look forward to getting to know more about all of you.

What an interesting GAW Jack . Please count me in . I am 76 and have been married to my First Wife for 56 years . We have 4 Kids , 9 Grand-Kids , and 5 Great Grand-Kids . If I have any hobbies , it is my knives , our Roses , our Garden , and Travel . I quit smoking regularly 41 years ago . I do not drink anymore , but I do not drink any less either. I have been retired officially since 2001 . I worked as an Engineer in both the Construction and Agricultural industry and for a big diesel engine manufacturer after I got out of the Army. My wife and I have been fortunate enough to be able to travel to most U.S. states and a fair number of other countries as well . Come May of this year we will be on the Rhine. Thank you for the chance my friend .

Harry

Jack my friend- I owe you WAY too much as it is- Oh man the "Gold" sure is a Superb knife for sure.

Love this giveaway- I will just be a spectator- taking this neat giveaway in!

Jack Sir- Thank You for all that you do my friend - we are blessed to have you here.

This sounds like too much fun! I'm in. Thanks for the opportunity!

Name is joey. Love and live for God, our savior, and my family. I am not perfect by any stretch and I don't judge others.

I quit smoking in 2007 and haven't regretted it. I drink a little. A glass of red wine or a little shot of whiskey occasionally. A beer or two every now and then. The older I get, the more I like working outside, probably since my job is inside a lot. I work in industry so when home I enjoy nature. I live in the country and spend my off days either working on my cars, with my family or doing a little country style work. Cutting trees, clearing our land etc. Especially since my dad is getting to old to do much of it any more.

I also build cars. I currently have a 850 hp 2015 mustang GT 50th anniversary model. And a 1965 Shelby cobra replica. It makes 310 whp and is a whole ton of fun. Before she started school, and before I got remarried, me and my little girl went everywhere in it. I was a single dad for 3 years and it was worth every second of it. That's the short and curlies of me. Lol

I'm in! Please, and thanks!

I'm almost 50. Married for almost 9 years now to the love of my life. I love old knives and old .22s. Unfortunately I've got Winchester tastes and a Rough Rider budget. But that makes for users to enjoy - not many safe queens. Non-smoker, didn't used to drink at all. Now I share an occasional cocktail with my wife or have a beer. Current likes are Moose Drool and Bad Tattoo Brewing Company's Full Sleeve Strong Stout.

Very much a lightweight - one 12oz and less than 6% for me, thank you.

Thanks for the chance, Jack.

Thank you to everyone whose posted :) It's great to learn a little more about you all, and it'll help me pick out a few 'extras' for our winner. Great stuff guys :)

What knife is in the last picture, top row, third from the right? Squared/grooved covers with screws.. looks interesting.

That's a Baladeo Papagayo Spearpoint in ebony

Fantastic series of pics Padruig, what a great bunch! :) For me, family is what it's all about :) :)

I feel a little guilty about it... but I'm in. Guilty because I've been the benefactor of some of the generosity for which the Porch is famed. But I can't resist mysteries.

About me, hmm.. just turned 58 on Sunday. Married for 26 years plus to my best friend and we have one daughter, a 20-yr-old junior at a NYC art school. My work is in technical marketing communications for a company that makes extremely high-end test and measurement equipment used by electrical engineers. In 2014 I was ordained to the Diaconate of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA). I hold an Extra Class Amateur Radio license. I have a dog. I'm not really an outdoorsy type. My favorite Beatle is John. And I've never been to Spain, but I kinda like the music.

Thanks, Mr. Black, for the generous giveaway and good luck to everyone!

I'm in !!

i would be proud to own a "Lambsfoot" from Mr. Black

I'm 59 and have been into pocket knives for about 1 1/2 years.
The porch is the place to learn about the hobby.
Thanks again
Scott

I'm in. I be 62, former over the road truck driver, school bus driver, fabrication welder, machinist, worked at a TV station as traffic director (made sure the correct ad ran at the right time) receptionist, executive secretay, website guy, and assistant engineer, managed a convenience store, liquor store, an ocean front vacation home, and a few night clubs, ran my own general hauling/lot clean up/tree trimming/fence building/yard work compny, also dabbled in marine maintenence (yes, I can splice line and rope) electrical on cars, buildings, and broadcasting equipment, nasically, a jack of all trades, master of none. Presently looking for a job.
I enjoy fishing (shore fishing freshwater and saltwater for whatever is dumb enough to bite the bait), hunting, camping, reading, and riding my bicycles. Planning on a little bike ride this coming spring from South Central Idaho to just south of Miami, Florida. "Only" around 3,350 miles. :) I used to do Civil War Re-Enactments and Buckskinner Rendezvous.
Interests include traditional knives, firearms, and "obsolete" "weapons" like muzzle loading arms, blowguns and slingshots, history, and science fiction.

I quit smoking 10 years ago, quit drinking in 1975. I don't miss either one. My beverages of choice are Mtn Dew, (only 4 liters a day) Tea, and coffee.
Thank you for the chance. I hope your battle with the kitchen table is going your way. :)

I'm in! Thanks for the chance! Jack, you helped me acquire my first Northwoods knife and ever since I have been hooked on traditionals!

Im in! Thanks for the chance, Jack.

Hmm, great idea for a gaw!Im in.

Im 27. I dont drink anymore, i went a little overboard and havent had a drink in about 3 years. Used to smoke 3 packs of cigarettes a day, but ive been using an ecig for the past 2 years or so and have noticed serious inprovement in lung capacity. For work i install, repair, and service fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers.

Not married and no kids, but soon i hope.

For fun i play video games, fish(thoughi havent been able to for about 4 years), and go hiking and camping.

Congrats on putting down the drink! I'm also 27. I haven't had a drink in four years. I have yet to kick the smokes though. I've been tempted to go electronic.
I thoroughly enjoy browsing record/ used CD stores, but that has become less frequent ever since I started visiting this fine area. My disposable income usually gravitates to sharp and pointy things now.
I also enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking, blah blah blah. All the usual outdoors stuff.
This is a neat gaw, Jack. I appreciate the thought you're putting into it and can't wait to see what the winner gets.

I'm in Jack. I'm a 63 year old retired guy. I don't drink or smoke. My wife and I have 4 grown kids and 13 grandkids. One of them lives with us was two of them but one turned eighteen and struck out on her own. Made my living as a linesman. Played guitar in bands all my life up until I became disabled a few years ago. Yea I'm a braced up hop along but I am able to walk now and had been told that would never happen again so for that I'm thankful. I am a Christian by faith and a family man by nature.

I'm In .
52 yo
spent 30 years in the NSWFB as a firey.
contracted type 1 diabetes 15 years ago at 37.
14 years later they decided I wasnt fit and so now and somewhat sadly retired on a medical pension.
I'm married with 2 sons in high school, another full grown one is a 3rd apprentice chippy in NZ and a mortgage -which makes the whole "gee i'd love to retire early on a pension" idea somewhat more depressing than it sounds.
Most of 2016 I spent trying to drown my sorrows in beer. A task that is patently unachievable and forbiddingly expensive at the rate I can put it away.
WARNING-the next bit is horrible!!
that all changed on Christmas night when the silicone chip inside my head got switched to overload -I went on a shameful whiskey fuelled rampage with the war face on in my house.
My wife and boys fled to the neighbours while I berserked and messed things up bigtime. Inexcusable but not without its reasons the main one being treated by my employer of 30 years with the respect normally given to toilet paper. This has been something I struggled with on a far more profound level than I had realised.
I was arrested and dragged off by the cops in handcuffs. On Christmas night.I spent that night in the lock up. They left the door open because Janette had explained who I and what I was and that I had not attacked her or the boys. But by the roaring god of fire I scared the xxxx out of the people who I love most in the world to my everlasting shame. Now at least I am forbidden by law to drink alcohol. A decision I am happy to tell you I am compliant with.
the scary part is that I remember the second whisky -laphroig an cuan mor -that was on top of beers .Then being in cuffs on the driveway wondering what the hell was happening -it was a very dark time that I have no memory of.
I state for the record that my beautiful wife must have the resilience of a thousand angels to have put up with my moaning on about the fire brigade for so long and I know that there must be a lot of good in me somewhere because if there wasn't any normal woman would have left ages ago.
cheers with a clear head and back on the track.
meako.

This is a really unique GAW format, I love it! Thanks for the chance, I'm in.

For other hobbies, I occasionally go out hunting for ginseng in the fall, although 9 times out of 10 I don't find any. I am a 5th generation maple syrup maker, still tapping trees that my great-great-grandfather tapped over 100 years ago on the family farm. And now tapping trees that my dad and grandfather planted before I was born. I have 1 daughter, who is turning 7 next week. I've never drank or smoke. My maternal grandfather was the head of sales at Queen Cutlery in the 70's and early 80's, and he gave me my first knife while I was still in my mom's womb. And many others since.

Thanks again!

And so begins the Monty hall paradox 😁

This is such a cool idea for a giveaway , but I just won a knife so I'm out.
