Take the Gold or Open The Box! - WINNER!

Very nice GAW Jack - enjoying reading about my fellow members - I'm in. I'm a retired Guardsman and long time building material salesman who has always loved to hunt and I've begun fishing more and more over the last five or six years. Been married to my HS sweetheart for almost 40 years; we have three children ages 27 to 34, none are married (all are evidently late bloomers). I've enjoyed accumulating knives since I was a kid, but only became a collector about 12 years ago. I do enjoy a good beer and drink several per week, only drink a glass of wine or scotch every few years - however I'm not opposed to it! I haven't had a cigar in about 14 years (asthma ended those). I really enjoy being here at Blade Forums where I can read and learn about lots of knives while I concentrate on slowly gaining different Buck and Case Knives. OH

Thank you for this GAW! I'm in! Of course, I love traditional knives. I also love photography and I'm really trying to be more creative this year. I've made it a goal to use the gear that I have to its fullest. As you can tell from my profile pic, I LOVE dogs. The one in the pic is our Aussie Shepherd - she's a handful. :) I served with the Canadian Air Force, then went into IT. Now I teach computer and network security at a Polytech. Two years ago I was diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes. This caused me to change my life - for the better. I changed the way I ate, and started regularly exercising. I've 45lbs and feel better now than I have since I was a teen. (I'm no teen anymore...). Well, that's a bit about me.

OH, I've seen them species of ducks around here too. Easy to kill. But you gotta cook em a long durn time before they tender enough to eat.

High in fiber... WHEN CUTTING WITH A KNIFE :p

I'm in and thanks.

I'm a married family guy with a load of kids, all grown and mostly independent. Currently a corporate slave with dreams of homesteading one day. I have a small knife problem compared to some of you. I like being outside as much as possible. I also enjoy cycling, strength training, wine and the occasional cigar, and putting meat over a hot bed of coals.

I would love to be in! This will be fun.

About me..... I'm Jake. I like to hunt.

I used to play music alot.... but life got in the way.

I went to the UAE.

But it could have been worse.

Still hasn't kept us from having fun!

Jake: Good to get to know more about you. I cropped a lot out so as to save bandwidth. This thread is really bringing folks out.

I used to play in bands too, but got too old to do those 3AM bar gigs. This is about 10 years ago.

Wow! Did you get hit in the floods? That doesn't look good.

You've kept an amazing, positive attitude:thumbup:

Many of us seem to have a lot in common!

I see everybody 's in, so I don't want to stay out!
I'm 65, retired, field sound engineer movie/tv nearly all my life I travelled a lot and enjoyed it. Slept in Beverly Hills hotel as well as under a raw tent in middle of the Ivory Coast savana and enjoyed both. Two children (one of each) and 3 grandchildren, 2 girls/one boy, all lovely, all away down the country.
Besides knives, I love traveling on the Commando (when she runs, that is) or even on a bike-that-lost-the-war (100RT beemer - same comment as before - b....y gearbox). While waiting they're fixed I listen to music, blues, jazz, southern, medieval, etc.
As a few here, I love beer, whisky and all sorts of rums, but they don't like me and I have to restrain. Same for tobacco, smoked all that can be smoked (with a soft spot for Cuban cigars and Balkan Sobranie pipe tobacco) but had to quit in 2001, Dr said stop!, and I kept most of my pipes, they show the same kind of craftmaship as knives.
Here's a picture of me 9 years ago, howling at the sun and still believing a big bad black bike would attract birds. I can say it is not true. :D

What a fantastic idea for a contest. I'm in, simply because I can't pass up a mystery;)

It's been really great reading about some of you fine folks. I've been kicking around BFC for the better part of a decade and a half, but I don't get out of the Himalayan Imports subforum that much. Traditional knives have become on of my more recent focuses in the broad scope of our hobby.

A little about myself: I'll be 36 years old this month. I've been married to my fantastic wife for 11 years (though we dated through high school and college as well). We have lovely 6 year old daughter who is basically a female clone of me (thus driving her mother nuts at times). Our "first child" is our 12 year old rescue mutt, and we were blessed this past summer with a pair of brother kittens I found abandoned by their mama in my warehouse. Happy little family.

I enjoy reading pulpy horror novels. I love fishing out old 1980's grocery store schlock I find at book stores. I also enjoy movies, cooking, and good beer and wine. I actually dabble with brewing my own beer from time to time as my work schedule allows. I'm a contractor by trade who focuses more on sales than shoveling, but I have a long warm relationship with the Buck 110. My dad, and business partner, has championed one for over 40 decades.

On the sharp and pointy front, I have always had a love of edged tools, but back in the early 2000's I found Himalayan Imports and was introduced to the national knife of Nepal. As things went on, I ended up spending so much time on the forum that I was blessed with the honor of moderating that fine group of gentlebeings.

Truth be told, I didn't think their was a place on the internet that harbored so many kind, generous, and gregarious souls as the HI forum. I have found that the Traditionals board is indeed a kindred spirit, and I appreciate y'all allowing me to ramble on from time to time as I learn about and collect these great knives.

I'm in!.

Great GAW. turned 61 last year and been in CO since '83 after growing up in Hawaii. Met my wife surfing! I play the ukulele although many of mine, look much better than I play. I use a traditional knife when I change strings.
On my answer phone I have a rap that goes with Sonny and Chers "I got you Babe" in the background.
But just made this one up

I'm on bladeforums as swaybacksteve
Traditional knives is what I believe
Whether it be micarta, wood, or bone
the scale I cherish is fat yellow horn
Usually on the porch, could be sipping some Scotch
But usually on the 'puter looking for GEC's new batch
of slipjoint wonders to
chickeneye and coonfinger
And to top it all I'm just a scout beginner!

longest post I think I've done

Great GAW Jack. The generosity of porch members such as yourself is always uplifting. I fell off the deep end of knife collecting a few years ago, starting with modern folders before I discovered traditionals. I have more knives than I could possibly use in a lifetime now thanks to this forum. I'm retired and spend my free time as a volunteer for the police department and as a range safety officer for a gun club. Besides being an avid shooter, I also enjoy riding motorcycles, playing golf and pretending to be an amateur photographer.

I'm in. I'll turn 70 this year. Several years ago, I retired from the practice of law. Now I supplement my retirement by driving a school bus, a gig that allows me to sleep at night. I have a grown son, four step kids and so far only one grandson.

I quit smoking forty-five years ago, but I still like to burn a couple of cigars a week. I have a lot of motorcycles, but find that I'm not riding them as much these days. I guess it's time to thin the herd.

My wife, Conchita, has liked traditional folders for longer than I have.

Got some dogs around here, too. Charlie is a standard poodle, 8 months. Gracie and Petunia are toy Australian shepherds.

One of my all-time favorite movies is Rancho Deluxe, in case you couldn't tell from my pseudonym and my avatar.

I'm in. I have many hobbies but the great outdoors beats them all. Being outside where God intended us to be. Great giveaway! I've never owned a sheep's foot so the choice would be easy!

A photo just for fun.

Sorry Jack and everyone- never been one to bottle things up-
On a lighter note

Janette works hard as a an ICU nurse,is intelligent ,dedicated, wonderfully talented in the kitchen and on the embroidering and quilting. A loving and wife and mother and my best friend.
Goodness abounds in her and she proves conclusively that opposites attract

Never put a python around your neck -happily this one knows which side the rat is buttered. The nicest snake you'd ever meet.
20170108_174814_zpszhvnyfxh.jpg

The Mighty Boris gronks down a large rat tail end first-not the nicest snake I've ever met but he needed a new home. We have an understanding-I understand that if my face gets within biting range it will receive the kiss of the python.
Immensely powerful and at a shade over 2M long he is still growing.

A different kettle of fish altogether. A young red bellied Black snake I caught this one in a firends back yard and relocated it to the forest area behind my home not far away. Its only the 10th most venomous Australian snake. A lot of people would have killed it. I saved it and I hope it has a long and slithery life with lots of frogs to eat. The speed at which it left the bag was incredible -so fast that this image is captured from video.

Here's my little buddy. We've had her for ten years, she's very sweet, docile too at 9 feet in length.

My wife became fascinated with reptiles and exotic animals when she moved in with me. We've been married for 5 years but together since 2005.

She's actually been quite good about my knife journey, well err except for the first few months after discovering bladeforum and she realized that I had purchased 35 knives in 5 months months.

On a good note I almost netted even that year thanks to Bf. She was also kind enough to get me my first Sebenza and I feel like we've been through everything together which makes for a wonderfully full life.

While she hasn't gotten me a traditional ever I know that she appreciates them a LOT more when I carry them in public vs something with a clip. I currently have a grand total of two traditionals but I EDC them more than I do moderns.

Thanks to everyone for the generosity of your contributions. I really enjoyed reading a bit more about you all, and love the pics :) What a great bunch!

I was going to let this run for a couple of weeks, but maybe I'll draw it earlier, see how it goes

Great pics Jake

Well, Jack, I'll play along; if only to spread out the odds a little. I still have that lovely Ottley hook you sent me 3-4 years ago. It's not even close to being worn out.

...

Here's a pic of the annual native canoes coming to the Potlatch. They paddle down from Canada and every tribe sends their own canoe. They have a big get together on the beach about 5 miles from my place.

LOL! :D I should send you a penknife to go with that some time my friend. Great pics

Very cool JP  :)

Been awhile since I posted here, but that Arthur Wright & Son Lambsfoot compelled me to enter for a chance to be his owner. I'm in!!! Here's a random knife photo.

Mike Most impressive! I admire many aspects of Japanese culture, their knives&swords being amongst them.

Not an entry in this GAW though thanks, I feel others' needs may be greater and have more merit.

Regards, Will
