Tank Like Folders?

A 1/4" thick blade on a folder is a bit over excessive as most locks will break before the blade breaks, the only thing I can see 1/4" thick blade doing is batoning tons of wood and used for a survival situation(if that's the case, get a fixed blade), it won't really be able to cut anything as it would be too darn thick.

Ding Ding Ding... I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone tried to tell me why I didn't need a folder like this. .25" blades cut just fine if they have good geometry. Now if it's .24" thick right behind the edge... I'd agreee with ya. But a well ground blade of .25" stock will cut very well.

When I think "tank," I think of:

Spyderco Manix

Spyderco Chinook
C63G3_L.jpg

Benchmade Rukus
610.jpg

Owned all three of those and a Benchmade Skirmish before... I need something beefier LOL.

ZT0500, 300, 200 any ZT pretty much bullet proof

Yeah I've seen those, but I figure the Strider's are tougher or as tough and I'm looking for something more excessive than a strider... which is Why I was looking at makes like Crusader and some custom stuff.

I went back through Farid's website and looked up a few dealers. He seems to be concentrating on those Lile fixed blades. I don't know much about his folders or their availabilty these days. :(

If you can see a hard-anodized aluminum in place of your titanium slabs, Extrema Ratio has got the .25" blades. I have the Nemesis and MPC folders, and the specs on their Rao seem even heavier-duty. They use N590 steel and are made in Italy as military knives.

Slightly more gracile than your target specs, but ... http://www.dozierknives.com/dk-5.html ... Bob Dozier has a really massive folder here. Take a look. The Tab Lock is interesting. At a glance, it's a liner lock. But it covers the whole of the tang, serving as lock and bladestop.

The tankiest folder I have is an Airkat but the handle is G-10/Ti on that.
The styling is not for everyone but Dwaine defo puts out a solid knife

Well, but that doesn´t make the knife itself a tank.:D

It is a damascus blade.

+1

they are solid and make most people say WTF anyway just from their looks LOL

Strider AR. Big ass thick folder. Nice steel, full flat grind, thick ti liners thick g10. keepem sharp

I've had the Crusader Forge Vis 01 (without the finger guard) and currently have Strider's SMF as a issued folder. The Crusader is the beefiest folder I've ever had, but with the thumb studs, it was not the easiest to open. Everything about the knife was over built, and I most likely had the pivot too tight. I currently have a flipper/opening hole version on order from Crusader forge, and hope the flipper version will be easier to open. The one thing I noticed was that the S30V steel would break easily at the tip. The blade profile is very pointy and the tip is thin. I just re-profiled the tip and never had anymore problems. I was cutting the lock shackle from a pelican case (heavy plastic) and should have been using my fixed blade instead. If you can get one, go with the Crusader. My 2 cents.
