This is not a post!
Therefore, I do not have to deny that this is an entry!
No foul, so no infraction, right??;)

There is a rumor that a new Barlow is coming out early next year! I want to add to the rumor, that a prize has been added to Duncan's GA!!
Duncan, defender of all the freedoms that make America great, even though he's a Kiwi! To add a little more to this burgeoning GA, I hereby (just a rumor, mind you) donate a new Barlow, whatever it is, whenever they are made!!
We did not have this conversation!

(And I was in the front of the costume!!!):p

Thanks Paul.

This will be for a non owning TC Barlow contestant in your GAW.

Paul -

So good of you to wait...It was nice just sitting and watching the sun drop down behind the Olympics tonight.

1. I personally think any of the American "revival" traditionals will be collectable for some time to come; every pattern seems to have it's fans. My daily rotation is a 4 blade Congress (Camillus), a Colonial Stockman, and a BF 2013 Forum Irish Jack. I'd like to see a split spring Whittler done like these Barlow though.

2. I'm not much for blade etching, but that's ok. I'd just as soon have a German scroll, but plain blades get used (at least by me).

3. The barlow with the sheepsfoot and pen scaled in ebony is about as perfect a knife as I've ever seen. I do like the pattern. My grandfather gave me a Barlow back when I was 6-7 years old. Big slab sided beast it was. I had a preference for the medium stockman and wore out several (preferably Uncle Henry's) by the time I was a teenager. (It's funny, because the Case sheath knife I was so proud to be able to buy hardly got any use and I still have it 40+ years later looking bright and shiny.)

4. I can't say that there's any reason I should win one of these. But if I do it'll get used...

I haven't looked at this thread much aside from a few times as I was one of the first entries. The amount of people coming in to chip in the giveaway pool is tremendous. This is a really generous giveaway for people not to just get something for free, but to have an opportunity to get a high quality and hard to find knife. When I first got into traditionals I still remember some dealers having TC barlows in stock. I didn't really have a full appreciation for slip joints yet, so I thought nothing of it. As I've been further introduced to various makers and brands like GEC I've come to like traditionals as my favorite carry knives as opposed to my more modern tactical folders. Anyhow thanks to the people running this. Typing with my GEC #85 in my right pocket right now.

Wow this is pretty amazing. Wanted to add a big thanks to Charlie, Chief, and Markesharp.

This is really cool. I'm very excited to see who wins these. Even if it's not me it will be cool to see how happy these make others.
Those sheaths are incredibly tooled. I didn't look at them closely enough the first time I read through this. That Oak leaf and Acorn sheath is fantastic. Looking at it for a while, you realize it's actually shadowed and sculpted to be 3D...

As i sold one of my TC Barlows and gave the other to my father I currently don´t own one...
So let´s get it started:
1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
I think Victorinox Alox.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
My initials, of course!.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
I like the big bolsters in them. Single Sheepfoot Blade in any wood with long nail nick.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
I should win a TC Barlow because I think I´m the only one in Spain who gave a TC Barlow to his father!:D

Thank you very much for the opportunity!.
W.

A true believer would have got the knifes serial number -each numeral upon a teardrop.
The whole place has gone BARLOW BALMY.
It's an Earth Shattering CHARLOPOLYPSE.

I am a non Barlow knife owner.

1. What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

I am still pretty new to traditionals myself, but I like the tractors and anything in blue bone.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

The Boy Scout logo, or "Be Prepared"

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?

I like TC barlows because of their good size, pocketability, and simple functionality. Love the chestnuts, and copperhead jiggled bone.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).

To be honest, I'm one of those guys who likes big beefy folders. A la Carrillo, or Medford knife and tool. However I also feel that every man should own a good flashlight and a good pocketknife. I haven't seen my brother in about ten years, and I want to give him one of each. He's an Eagle Scout and name is Thomas Christopher. One of these TC barlows would be perfect.

Ok...i just got home from work - 10.05 pm :grumpy:

But while Im away - theres been some copyright infringements going on - OMG!!! First the superstars nude photos get taken from Cloud, then my lovely face is sprawled all over the place!!!!

We transfer you over to PRIMBLES THREAD ( Thread - would you call it that? - ok well run with that for now ) and then John will deliver the goods.............

Ok I can't stay away, I tried. So here is my entry into the already barlow owners club. That red bone Barry posted is just like one I regrettably sold. That's what did it. Thank you Duncan for the great GAW. And another thank you to Charlie, Paul, Barry and everyone else who donated to the cause. What a great bunch we have here.

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

The next best thing to a TC is a boys knife. This iconic classic styled knife never goes out of style. The Radio knives are certainly ones to watch.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

I'd have to go with CC or some version/homage to Charlie.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?

Long pull clip in ebony. It's not exotic or even different from a lot of other knives that have been produced. It's the one that I think best represents a classic barlow.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).

Not sure what I can say here. I'd like one but don't need one. It's something that I would likely put up for my son when he's old enough to have it.

Thanks again for the chance. And good luck to everyone who entered.

What can I say Duncan - your gang has truly the best GAW of all time - but - you had to pull out all stops to get there. I am ashamed of some you who call me your friend, that you would resort to these kind of tactics - in a blatant attempt to try and bury your fellow knife enthusiast. :o

I tried to put up a stop sign in my thread after the joke thread got a little old to me - I pulled your thread from the depths of nearly falling off the page, to show my friendship, then I come back over here to find you want to crispy critter me??:eek::eek:

I am so embarrassed !!! :o

I tell you what - any of you that might think about old times and feel even the tiniest amount of regrets - about treating your friend Primble SOOO bad, here is what you can do to redeem yourself !!

You just wrap up that sheep foot from Paul, that ebony long pull clip from that guy who threatened me with nukes, the tomato knife from Barry, and the soup bone from Barry and you know my address - yes - you just mail those knives to me immediately and I promise I will never ever never ever hold any of this against any of you.
( I need ALL of those listed knives for my Charlow Collection )

:D:D:D

Congratulations on the BEST GAW EVER !!! Thank you in advance for all of my prizes!:thumbup::D

Primble, don't forget to answer the questions, or you will get an infraction from fearless leader! Just sayin'... :)

O'course he may require a written statement of submission.

I do not own a TC barlow. The only barlow I own is a Bear and Son with 1095 and yellow delrin covers. This is quite the amazing give away. Thank you to all the generous givers.

Answers to questions:
1.) I believe all of the old traditional patterns will always remain collectable. Barlow, trapper, stockman, congress, whittler, etc. from Case, Queen, GEC and all the other fine makers of quality production traditional knives. These knives will never go out of style.

2.) I really like the "Real Barlow" and "Genuine Barlow" etchings.

3.) Any TC Barlow is appealing to me. I have a fondness for the dark woods in the cover material, ebony, African ebony. In blade style I like the spear point with long pull either two or single bladed. To me that is the traditional barlow. They are wonderful with the sheep's foot either single or two bladed long pulls. Shucks, can't leave out the clip point in a long pulls. I'm not very decisive.

4.) The TC barlow is my grail knife. I drool over all of the pictures of them on the forum. It is THE perfect barlow with none even in second place. The barlow is the knife my dad, grandfather and great grandfather carried everywhere, to work, church, at home, they were never without it. The barlow is the perfect pattern to me. It fits my hand and my pocket perfectly. I would cherish a TC barlow and carry it and care for it every day. With eight children, their spouses and seven grandchildren I give away many inexpensive knives. I try to teach them the value of carrying a traditional knife. There is no way I could afford to purchase myself an expensive knife like the TC barlow. If I had one it would be my knife and I would never give it away. It would be left in my will with the story of how I obtained it. Thank you great fellows for the chance to own one. If I won I don't think I could put into words how grateful I would be. I would probably explode, with happiness gushing everywhere!

Had to edit this to say how nice the tooled leather slips are. Wow!

Man I go away from here for a few days and I come back and people are giving away "grail" knives. This place never ceases to amaze me.
I am of the Non-TC barlow group so here goes:

What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
I think the #66 Calf Roper Jack is a good candidate because of the timeless design and the great options that are available for it.

What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
The Real Barlow etch is my favorite, it just fits the pattern and history of the knife.

Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
For me the Barlow is perfect in almost every way. They are thin and light enough not to be a bother in my pocket and they are tough enough to do almost any job. Long pull clip blades and some type of wood or bone are always tops on my wish list. Add that big bolster and you have a great thing going.

Why you think you should win a TC barlow?
There has always been one of two things stand in the way of me getting on the these.... Either I am to slow, or my knife money fund is on empty. I have been on the look out for a long pull clip for some time and they just always seem to evade me. I know that it is a pattern that would kick most others out of my pocket for some time to come.

1.What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
My hope and preference would be a single blade lock-back hunter, the GEC #42 Missouri Trader is my new edc go-to. It's not hard for me to imagine it becoming as ubiquitous as the Buck 110.

2. What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
I am kind of partial to the "days work" design that popped up a while back, I like the idea that although attractive, a charlow will do all reasonable work you assign it.

3. Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
Got my nephew a Yellow Days Work with the single Spey blade, it sharpened up like a scalpel, and a year later after comparing notes he told me that he used only that for the year. He counts it as one of his most valued possessions - and for an 18 year old to say that, well you got to respect a cutting tool that transcends generations. I think it's the perfect size - the extra heft in the bolsters make it feel more substantial in hand.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ?
Because it'd be used, and cherished.

My nephew's TC with its cousin my Elephant Toenail.

This is a very generous GAW to say the least. I would like to add my name to the list of entries as I dont not presently own a TC Barlow and have not ever owned one in the past.

1. If i had to pick one pattern or model that will be a collectible in the future I would have to say the 47 viper. It seems to have a big following for good reason!

2. As far as my prefered etching, I would say no etching. But if the must be something on the blade I really dont care what it is as long as it is minimal. I intend to earn a patina on the blade eventually that will make any etching difficult if not impossible to see anyway!

3. The reason I like the TC Barlow so much is simple. I am faily new to traditionals and when I first stumbled upon this wonderful forum the first pattern that caught my eye was the TC Barlow. I knew nothing about any traditionals but there was something special about that pattern that appealed to me. Basically it was a first impression into the traditional world and for whatever reason I havent been able to make the stars aline as far as timing and finance to add one of these beauties to my collection.

4. Why should I win this GAW? Well, I dont deserve to win anymore than anyone else. If I do win it will be a user for sure. Thanks for the Chance!

All this gathering of the troops, war talk and working late has made me unable to even count properly!! I apologise to the threat of turning you and your lads into crisps - but it had to be done to settle you guys down a wee bit!

Thank you Barry, - your on the edge mat- answer the questions my friend- or you know what happens!

WE - the winning team have 6 - thats right 6 knives up for grabs, ( its morning I can count now )
Good luck everyone.

I was going to say that you know - I only counted six - maybe you could just pitch in another one - the antique yellow one - with all this generosity and such
